Puel so far, not a good fit for saints? or the man to take us forward?
Jai27 replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
To be clear, I wasn't suggesting he lacks charisma or respect in the dressing room. I said I'm more worried about him loosing the dressing room than the fans, meaning it doesn't really matter what we think, it's what the players think. -

I'd give him until the end of the season. His game plan is reminiscent of Pochettino's tactics but without the high pressing (the exciting bit...). The problem is that if we finish in the top 10 and have had a good cup run, we don't really have good grounds to sack him. I'm more concerned about him loosing the dressing room than the fans to be honest. -
Martina might as well not be on the pitch, he's the worst player out there. Should really be winning this one now and we need to offer something dangerous down the left side of the pitch. Watching Redmond playing close to Boufal you can really see the vast difference in quality. Sorry to say but Redmond looks to be a waste of money based on his season so far.

Still think 40mil is too cheap and I'd be pretty ****ed off if that's what we got for him. Would a bidding war really take it up above 50? He's the finished article at a young age for a defender and is currently being hailed as one of, possibly THE best CB in the league. Slightly alarming that it looks like we may have a brand new CB pairing next season. Any suggestions?

I'd love Jay to get a goal and become the missing piece of the puzzle for the rest of the season. Expecting Long to start though with Jay coming off the bench towards the end. Not expecting much from this game... It'll need some Boufal magic if we want to leave with some points.
-
Better performance overall. We looked much more dangerous with Tadic and Boufal on the pitch and I reckon they both offer more than Redmond in nearly every aspect. Going forwards I'd start with those 2 and bring on Redmond for the last 10/15min to run at defences and inject some pace. Brilliant to see Jay play a full match and bar the obvious miss I actually thought he looked pretty good. Held the ball up well, tried to create chances, kept up the intensity right until the end. He certainly looked better than Austin has recently. Thought McQueen also had another solid game as did Romeu. Main negative to take away is that Ward-Prowse was awful (again). One of the worst games he's had for us and I'd say he's probably our worst CM option at the moment.

It'll be 0-0 and we'll be told how it was a good defensive display and we did well to get a point from a decent opponent.

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread

Palace left me feeling pretty gutted, yes we lost and it happens, but it was how we lost. However, I thought the support was brilliant, likewise at Arsenal. This one has left me angry. No reaction, no drive, negative tactics, poor support. Sorry to say, but the team I'm watching play at the moment is the worst we've looked in the last 5 seasons. -
Drop him. He's young with a lot to learn still. Get him playing with the youth squad and get the goals/his confidence back. We can't afford to have him as our main attacking player at the moment, it's costing us games.
-
Really? I thought he was absolutely useless at Palace. Never won a header and looked like a 50 year old playing 5 a side when the ball was at his feet. The more I watch him play the more I think he's just another Billy Sharp, great eye for goal and a born poacher but offers nothing else. The positional play and physicality of Pelle and Lambert were so superior and we really miss that. I'd start Long, Boufal and Tadic/Sims depending on fitness. Pace, ball control, creativity.
-
Very well said. He's a model professional and loyal servant to the club who deserves more credit.
-
I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Would hate to see him playing for Everton and no disrespect to WBA, but he's better than that.
-
There was an abnormal amount of Neanderthals at that game so I'm sure there was probably more insulting of our own players than usual.
-
I'd be disappointed with 40mil for him. 50mil+ then fair enough and move on to the next one. Although I really do think he may stay for another season, possibly as our captain.
-
2004, Fabrice Fernandes with a sensational long shot (definitely an attempted cross) to make it 3-3 at 90min.
-
Well you would do wouldn't you, you fat Dutch git. I think you know full well what type of reception you'll get, and rightly so. Hopefully the occasion will get some passion out of the squad and we'll actually look like we give a toss.
-
Forster Cedric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand Romeu, Hojbjerg Redmond, Boufal, Tadic Austin Rotate the front 3 behind Austin with Romeu doing what he does best and Hojbjerg dictating play in the centre. Boufal is fit and needs game time, just throw him in the mix! We couldn't do any worse and he clearly has talent/flare which we're in serious need of.
-
I really really dislike him, and not just for that reason. He sulks, he's arrogant, he's constantly injured, and hugely overrated. Regardless, the 25mil we are rumoured to be lining up to pay after a loan deal in jan will never happen. Totally against our business model and I'd rather take a punt at 2 x younger foreign strikers.

Saints 1 Sunderland 0 - Arsenal away in the quarter-final
Jai27 replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Managed to get tickets for both luckily. Never been to Selhurst Park before but I've heard it's up there with Fratton Park on the 'total s**t hole' scale. Is there a usual away fans pub near the ground? -
Brilliant news. The sooner we have him back as 1st choice RB the better.
-
It'll be my first UEFA game this Thursday, hence the ignorance! Cheers for the info
-
No beer sold inside the ground?
-
I'm not sure if this is good or bad for us really. They've been so poor with him in charge that I kind of wish they'd kept him on till after Thursday...
-
No, basically. As you say, he's guilty of at least one stray pass a game which the opposition always seem to then break on and he doesn't have the physicality to hold off other players. He's tenacious and must be annoying to play against, but we need more than that really. If fitness and resting players didn't come into it, then we'd start every game with Romeu and Hojbjerg without a doubt. Overall though I'm fairly happy with our current midfield options, but if we had to upgrade a player in Jan / next summer then it would be Clasie (I'm not including Martina because he really shouldn't be allowed to play at this level anyway). Maybe Koeman can come and take him and we'll get Cork back when Swansea go down.

Can only make the home Inter Milan game, but still very excited about tomorrow! A win at the San Siro will be something to remember for many years to come.
