  1. When's the last time we made a good January signing, besides getting loanees onto permanent contracts? I must be missing one but I can't recall.
  2. How much ambition do Leicester City have?
  3. What do we think to Jack Grealish? Big questions over his attitude but harness that talent and he might be the attacking midfielder we've all been looking for.
  4. Calum Chambers would be a great January move if there's any truth in those rumours.
  5. It was just tiredness in this case, I think.
  6. We were lacking muscle in midfield as Romeu tired, so a lot of fans were expecting Clasie or JWP to come on. Neither Ramirez or Juanmi can win the ball back. That's obviously not why we lost but it didn't help. Bringing Carroll and Lanzini on at half time gave West Ham impetus which we couldn't match. Anyway, keep that intensity and belief from the first half and we'll get our way out of this dodgy run.
  7. And Messi, while we're at it. We miss Pelle because he can hold the ball in the final third and give us a platform to attack from when West Ham are back and protecting their lead.
  8. We miss Pelle now. Take a deep breath.
  9. Van Dijk ball watching again.
  10. Surprised one of JWP and Clasie didn't come on with a more attacking player. Need legs in midfield as well.
  11. Some fresh legs needed up top I think, not getting at them hard enough. But not sure Juanmi or Ramirez will help our attacking much at the moment. Perhaps Ward-Prowse?
  12. Opportunity for us if Collins goes off, he's been very good today and they don't have a centre half on the bench.
  13. Awful ball watching by two or three defenders to give Carroll that chance.
  14. Davis and Romeu have both been excellent.
  15. Long playing exactly how Rodriguez did when we put him up top away from home. Very effective
  16. Always worth remembering this!
  17. I've just twigged that we'll go ninth (even eighth) if we win this game, with only Liverpool still to play. Everton and Stoke are playing each other so we'd leapfrog one of them regardless of the result. Anything other than a win and we stay 12th, so time to put ourselves back in the hunt!
  18. Think Cedric would probably come back in if he were fit. Might even see Targett given a run out for Bertrand, even if it's off the bench. Interested to see whether we stick to this 442, as West Ham do get a lot of joy out wide.
  19. He's not quick enough to catch the balls or apply the pressure that Long does. If he were to try and play like that, he would leave space to pass into and have nothing to show for it. Working hard isn't stupid, but you've got to apply your effort in the most effective way. On the subject of counterattacking, Mane and Long were both great going through the centre but we can't take too much from our success on the break last night. Having the opposition come onto us, leave their centre halves exposed and have those CBs cock up individually isn't going to happen very often. As we all know, one of our problems is breaking down teams who come and defend and we're not earning the right to play on the break by getting the early goal.
  20. It is sad, but he's not the only one who's lacked work rate in the last few weeks. The team as a whole picked it up today. Confidence is one thing. We started just as well against Spurs but didn't get the goal and deflated. Without Martina's goal it might even have been the same tonight, who knows? I'm glad Pelle isn't stupid enough to chase like Long does. He plays to his strengths.
  21. Didn't miss him at all but as has been said, the circumstances suited Long. There's no reason we can't have tonight's direct running alongside Pelle, but it's certainly worth looking at how we can best set up our front line.
  22. Besides that utterly brilliant goal, he was the same as he's always been in my opinion: alright but no great shakes. Harsh as it is on the lad I'd probably start Cedric on Monday if he's fit. That goal, though. Best since our promotion?
  23. Football, eh. That was all work rate and, after the crucial first goal, confidence to go and play. Arsenal were really, really feeble and we shouldn't be surprised the media will focus on that. Wanyama was man of the match. And while he used to play like that every week, he wasn't the only one to pick up the energy tonight. Loved the 442 with Davis and Ward-Prowse covering and getting out to the ball - something we could work with in future. Should we start with it at West Ham?
  24. Outstanding while he was on - proved that midfield is about decision-making, not running mindlessly at the ball against a team which can pass it round you. He knew when to go and when to stay back and block the passes.
  25. Great move for all parties - though I'd say Van Dijk is a better move and others may still prove to be.
