Think the team picks itself today, injury/mentality permitting. Let's get a win

Nigel Adkins Interview (Saints YouTube channel, Monday)
DuncanRG replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
This should be a good watch, but I can't imagine the club would release it were he to be more than mildly critical of the club or Cortese. -
He made some cracking saves in his very first games, along with some bad mistakes, if I recall. Best of luck to him!
-
It's worth remembering that Neil Lennon expected a Premier League job when he left Celtic and ended up managing Bolton.
-
Which is exactly why it's interesting he's only announced it now!

Is it right for the media to use images of refugee tragedy?
DuncanRG replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Lounge
Phones aren't luxury items, and are, I assume, the only way for refugees to stay in touch with their families back home. -
How do you know what he's on? (It was reported when he signed his new contract that he had become our top earner)

Saints 7th most expensive squad in Premier League
DuncanRG replied to manina-pub's topic in The Saints
It is correct, because the players we've sold aren't in our squad. -
I'm not reading too much into Denmark as everyone's confidence was shot. Other than that I think he's been okay, but I'd also rather see Yoshida cover. Only problem is pace, which Martina has a little more of.
-
Our plan A was to have Cedric as backup for Clyne and, I imagine, let him grow into the team when Clyne eventually left. When Clyne went this summer, and our first choice new right back became unavailable, we went for Cedric as the starting right back. A two-year contract for Martina suggests to me that he'll be used as a steady but unspectacular back-up - which is how he's performed so far - until McCarthy or another young lad is ready.
-
In an ideal world, perhaps, but the FA can't stop people talking to the press and it would be an incredibly regressive move if they did.
-
Yup, I'd be disappointed if he didn't. Need to get a good look at him
-
Mmm. You've added a word there. Be fair, you said he was at the beck and call of Daniel Levy and suggested he was whoring himself out. I think it's true because it's written by a decent reporter, that's all. It may not be the whole truth but it plainly wasn't paid for by Daniel Levy or anyone other than, er, the Mail. Besides, would you really expect Wanyama to sign a five-year contract at Southampton right now? I'd be less inclined to believe a story about him signing, to be honest.
-
Journalists don't always name sources. They should where possible, but that's difficult in football transfer stories - not least because a reliable source close to Wanyama might well be a personal friend, team mate or even coach. In fact, maybe I'm wrong about the number of sources. You never know, Reed may have given Jones the quote, then said, as long as it wasn't attributed to him, that Wanyama didn't want to sign. Whatever you think of the Mail's news, it would be unlike them to run a sports story like that without good sources at Saints and Tottenham.
-
Someone close to Wanyama and Tottenham. The Daily Star might run with Tottenham's word on how Wanyama's feeling, but the Mail doesn't.
-
That's a perfectly fine football story by a perfectly fine reporter, with at least three sources including, you'll note, Les Reed, whose quote sheds some useful light. This is particularly interesting: "'Maybe it got a little bit too hyped up and maybe Victor thought there was a bit more truth in the rumours than there was."

Wanyama and the St.Marys crowd ...boo or cheer ?
DuncanRG replied to manina-pub's topic in The Saints
If he's trusted to represent us on the pitch by someone who knows him and the club better than me, then yeah. But we're not talking about someone who punched Matt Le Tissier and burnt a picture of Ted Bates, are we? I wouldn't cheer on an unreprentant and serious criminal, but that's a can of worms I'd rather not open. -
Wanyama and the St.Marys crowd ...boo or cheer ?
DuncanRG replied to manina-pub's topic in The Saints
You misunderstand me, I am a West Brom fan. Wanyama has actually turned me against Southampton (Yes, I would, because he would have had some degree of rehabilitation to be picked again.) -
Wanyama and the St.Marys crowd ...boo or cheer ?
DuncanRG replied to manina-pub's topic in The Saints
Sorry, but I'm going to cheer on my football team. You'll note that Wanyama hasn't had a chance to 'get on with it' since his transfer was (publicly) blocked. Morgan missed games when his head was turned - the only difference is that they were in pre-season. People were calling Schneiderlin all sorts of names on here at the time, but as always the real human beings who show their faces at games were a lot friendlier and cheered him on. -
Wait, so are we desperately blunt and failing in the market for an attacker or are we too good for our best attacking midfielder of the past decade? (I wouldn't take him back myself, but that's only for the psychological implications of reversing a controversial transfer like that)

He's a great player and will be a great player for Liverpool if he can stay fit.

VIDEO: Les Reed discusses the summer window of 2015
DuncanRG replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
If we kept Alderweireld and signed VVD (and the latter fulfils his potential) I think we probably would have had the strongest set of centre halves in the league. Certainly not far off it, since the Stones and Ramos deals didn't go through -
Maybe Daniel Levy unsettled Perez with a £20 bid for his cleaner.
