  1. It is worrying when somebody who seems to be arguing that you should just keep an open mind is ridiculed as being a 'thick as mince' footballer. I find him quite eloquent in the defense of his sometimes odd social media comments and it may not be the most orthodox barometer of intelligence but he did pretty well on Countdown. It seems that you are allowed to tweet if the mob agree with you. The 'Two legs bad four legs good' crowd would benefit from taking his advice and do a little bit more research into their opinions. I will always judge him on his extraordinary loyalty to us when he was one of the best players in the world if not the best and remarkably stayed with us. Probably as importantly, I will gauge him on what he has done and continues to do in our community. He has always been prepared to give up his time. Always a legend in my book.
  2. What is dangerous is the 'mob' shutting him down because he presents a different angle to a new story. Ronald Reagan was an ex Actor was his opinion irrelevant. Who should we be 'listening to'?
  3. To develop an opinion I would suggest a rich diet of views. When somebody else decides what viewpoints you can be exposed to that is dangerous.
  4. I think that anybody who does not understand what he is saying on free thinking is not really capable of it themselves. I disagree with some of what he says, I agree with other parts but I think that hysterically closing down the debate he raises is far more dangerous than not listening to it. he has demonstrated to me over the three decades he has been in the public eye that he has very good values. He also provided me with some of the best moments I have enjoyed as a Saints supporter.
  5. A great man to have around the club. I am not sure the value of that will have been understood when this decision was made.
  6. Wasn't that 6-1 - was it Tessem? We drew the second half 1-1!
  7. Arsenal in the cup with a youth team was pretty dispiriting. I think that one was 5-0. At least the tickets were £15.
  8. I blamed that performance pretty much on Caulker and then they signed him on loan. I think he had a few issues poor lad Caulker.
  9. Has his nose not been bloodied enough to make him think again? He has totally underestimated how much people in satellite countries value their freedom. These are Nato countries and if Nato can rally together enough to make a difference in a non Nato country they will not want to get involved in places where Nato defence is enshrined. I think you underestimate how much Ukrainians would want to return to a normal life. Peace in this part of the country might even be welcomed. They did not kick off too much over Crimea and these are parts of Ukrainian where Russians predominate (I think). That is why they already control them. All wars end and I think that if it is handled right then both sides can be felt they have won and it can be cut short. What the bravery of the Ukrainians has done is to give them a far more powerful negotiating position. As I say I am just an armchair observer with no experience of the region.
  10. Never underestimate the power of nationalism. Going without makes people feel they are contributing to the war effort, it unites people. We receive a lot of propaganda as well and I would wager that public opinion in Russia remains firmly behind Putin. What changes the mood is body bags and not only do Russians have a higher threshold, I would doubt they will be told the scale of their losses. An end to this ghastly episode will not be driven by people power in this early stage, it will be Putin appreciating he has bitten off more than he can chew but even then he will have to have an exit where he does not lose face. If he were to get the Donbass region then that should do the job. Would the Ukrainians take that? A certain conclusion might even heal that festering wound in the East. The legacy may even be positive and create stability in the region with Putin not prepared to pursue is historical fantasies. That is an amateur viewpoint of course. I never thought they would invade!
  11. When we built the stadium we budgeted at an average gate of 26K. The stadium also effectively bankrupted us when we got relegated. This was also the case with many other clubs that built new stadiums - Leicester and Derby off the top of my head.
  12. Very very sad. One of the forum veterans who's contributions were always read with interest. The site will be a lesser place without you Minsk.
  13. You tube him signing his boots and giving them to a young boy after the Euros final. I changed my mind on him there and then. I will do it for you: Jack Grealish gives young boy his boots after England defeat to Italy in the Euros final! CLASSS!! - YouTube
  14. I really like Ralph, and he is a good fit for us. Results have been sufficiently up and down to prevent people poaching him. He would have been a shoe in for Everton otherwise!
  15. Anyone who wants to take the Statue down is just creating another victim of this vile man BH.
  16. I would think it is realistic to value Broja at between £25m and £30m
  17. Miserable assessment but I cannot contest it!
  18. Does the premier league actually have a formula for calling a game off? Can they independently validate any tests. This potentially undermines the competition's integrity. Of course if the situation was reversed I would be willing on a cancellation but that does not mean that is right.
  19. Sorry about that.
  20. Thank you Fanimal
  21. Is the game sold out?
  22. It was very harsh. It was also deep in their half. Referees get an adrenaline buzz from sending people off. The trouble with VAR is that when the fouth official says they think the ref should re look at it the assumption is that they think they should be sent off.
  23. I would be more optimistic this season. The defence is better and the Ings sale now looks like a very good bit of business. 14/1 does though offer some value when we have a bad run of fixtures.
  24. JWP is one of those players you want about the club. What he offers in terms of continuity and culture around the team should not be underestimated. Morgan and Victor both left in a strop and did damage to morale in the process. On the pitch, 8 goals last season, which of our strikers are people expecting to score more? On set pieces he is top 5 in the league. Yes you can be critical, a little sluggish and a bit sideways but a vital part of the team. Most of all I want to like the players that represent our city and he fits the bill. Thank you Prowsey and like nta 786 I hope I get to go to his testimonial.
