  1. I would argue that JWP has been more loyal than most and has not appeared to manipulate a move. I will of course concede that he would be at Liverpool if they had wanted him but he would have conducted himself better whilst doing it.
  2. What I have tried to stay albeit probably not very articulately is that JWP's contribution to our club stretch well beyond the field. He sets standards and his loyalty and stature has provided stability in turbulent times. Your new midfielder is unlikely to make such an all round contribution. You may be happy that we are cashing in on him but I am just saying you have not factored in his true value to our club.
  3. We are Southampton and players of his ability are normally long gone. I celebrate his loyalty, his free kicks and his engine on the field and will always be grateful to him. Players like him make me want to support our club, not the likes of Lallana, Van Dyke, Lovgron, Vestegarde Bertrand etc
  4. I think you think we are Real Madrid Nemi. What should we do? Go and sign another money grabbing mercenary with no loyalty to our club?
  5. Really! not a great loss! - who will fly the Saints flag in the dressing room now?
  6. Bizarrely, I think that was one of the games that Grobbelaar was reputed to have fixed!
  7. Thank you Baz. My son asked me why I wanted Coventry to win so much today and I told him that your supporters have been through so much misery over the last two decades that I was rooting for you lot. One of my earliest memories was that extraordinary game in the eighties.
  8. But what about all of the other attributes he brings to the party. We are at best a mid table premier league team, we don't have world class players they just leave. He is as good a player that we can have who is prepared to stay.
  9. He is one of the players I would want to have a pint with. Intelligent and articulate he would always have something sensible to say behind the scenes; people would look up to him around the club. I doubt he spends much time in the hair salon, and he doesn't weighs himself down with gold jewelry or hang out in the VIP lounge of night clubs or on twitter. He could have left us but opted to be loyal. He is our top scorer as a midfield player. He sets the standards around the club. The fight back starts with players like him (if he can be persuaded to stay). He will be an enormous pull for any manager of any caliber who wants to join us if he is still with us.
  10. I had to change my mind on Jack Grealish! One of the good guys.
  11. It is players like JWP that make me want to support the club and fans like you that make me want to stop following the club.
  12. see below
  13. How you treat people is who you are Dusic. Stop despising digital personas.
  14. What did you genuinely 'despise' about his views? In the age before social media people discussed things in a pub and agreed to disagree, now they 'despise' people on social media. Judge people on who they are.
  15. They say never meet your heroes, well I did meet him once, in a queue to pay for petrol and he did not just give me the time of day he chatted to me like a pal. When my son was at his academy he gave up his time for him and many others like him. He was down to earth and unpretentious far from the stereotype most of us have of footballers. On the football field he was extraordinary, he scored most of our goals and set up many of the rest. Coveted by big clubs across the spectrum he stayed loyal to us and Southampton. That was not just unusual it was exceptional. Loyalty is as good a gauge of judging somebody as anything. Of course, I found some of his tweets unfortunate but although they were often rather crudely presented, I could see what he was trying to say. The point he was trying to make was that in all the hysteria of the pandemic, decisions were being made and there seemed to be little scope for debate without the mob shouting you down. A bit like 1930's Germany really. He paid quite a price for his viewpoint, he left Sky and stopped being our ambassador. His views were often unorthodox and I probably understood why Sky felt increasingly uncomfortable with him making them. The BBC enforces stricter rules on impartiality than Sky of course, its their standard and not surprisingly, at one point when you liken the Government to speaking the same language of Nazis, they too needed to take a stand. Of course its a grey area when you are freelance but he was the BBC's highest paid talent. What Le Tissier is now saying is that the when he expressed a controversial opinion, many of the people that screamed hysterically for him to be cancelled are the same ones that are now decrying the death of free speech. Cunt is a word I reserve for special occasions and next time you use it, I would suggest that you rise above the social media lynch mob and just think for yourself. I decided, although he is clumsy with his delivery and I don't agree with some of the things he has said, he is on the whole, a decent bloke and remains in my book a legend of our club.
  16. Its just bad luck. We generally do not have much exposure to injuries sustained whilst celebrating.
  17. Saints fans have a long history of draining confidence from goalkeepers. We should get behind every player otherwise we will definitely go down rather than probably.
  18. You can get fitter but you cannot get cleverer. I feel very sorry for Nathan but he needs to consider his position.
  19. I see the main role of back room coaches as to build team cohesion, spirit and to be a go between the players and the manager. Of course there has to be a level of coaching competence but I have never really seen evidence of a number two having any revolutionary impact on the team with their coaching they just seem to put the cones out and give encouragement. I am probably naive of course!
  20. One of the more dubious decisions that was made, was to clear out the long established back room staff. People like Kelvin Davis were proper loyalists who helped to give the club a heart beat and a culture. When the pressure is on it is these guys that circle the wagons and make the club feel worth fighting for. These guys provide the continuity when managers or even owners come and go.
  21. Big Drop Pine Trail is something I would genuinely drink for pleasure.
  22. Having suggested that Supporters are not up for the fight I think it is important to recognise that in 2022 in terms of points per game we were 90th out of the 92 professional clubs in the league yet remarkably we still have gates of 30,000 consistently. That is a extraordinary achievement and a great credit to our supporters. We should be very proud of that.
  23. Part of me romanticises about the euphoria of the relegation battles of the 90's but this is a different era and we just don't look like having the mental strength or the goal scoring threat to get out of this mess. In the nineties you felt you could beat the top teams if they were off the boil, the Dell was a cauldron and got behind the team but even in 2005 the Saints Norwich game at SMS was one of the best games I have ever been to. Nowadays it feels like we are all resigned to our fate. I would love to see us re-calibrate and have a fun promotion season but I live in fear of financial Armageddon and ending up like Swansea or Stoke. Why did we not buy a striker in August?
  24. It always annoys me that they call us Soton
