I agree, atmosphere at St Mary's has been absolutely ****e since we weren't winning every week, if I was a Saints player I would absolutely hate to play at home. Every missed place pass results in 20,000 odd groans. ****ing support the team and then you can complain if they don't repay your support.

Presumably all the people moaning about the line-up weren't paying attention to the Leicester game on Tuesday, and just came on here to moan about us losing yet again (on penalties I would add). This is as close to the team that played the last game as is possible, and they played well, therefore they deserve to start this game. That's how most people would want the team to be picked, can't understand why people are complaining about it. For the first time in ages I'm semi-optimistic about our performance coming up. Get a grip.

Yeah what a surprise, after a top performance in front of 90,000 at Wembley we struggled to get going again in our remaining meaningless league games. #PuelOut

There was a whole article about Tadic, JWP and others saying he’d wrecked their confidence
-
And most deemed that to be not good enough and the manager was sacked!!!! Absolute madness at the time, and even more so in hindsight.

The best bit about the officials last night for me was Lemina (i think) fouling their defender practically on the goal line, and Leicester taking the free kick to the left of the edge of the penalty area. The whole Saints end was roaring at the linesman and he seemed completely torn between flagging the ref and just pretending nothing was happening. Naturally, like 99% of the officials at this level, he completely ****ing bottled it and just ran off. ****s.

Would not be adverse to this

I get what you mean, but as I said, this was a team largely made up of players that haven’t played much this season so I felt for them that their attempt to make a case for being regular was hindered but some bad luck. For me that team is pretty close to what should next game,, they’ve earned it.

We all knew it hit his hand, I said to the guy next to me as soon as the ref touched his ear we knew it was for the hand. In my opinion if your hand changes the direction of the ball or gains a clear advantage, it should be handball. But that’s not the rule, it has to be ‘deliberate’ and that was about as far from deliberate as you can get, someone smashed it up into him. The rule can’t be changed to fit the scenario, because we scored it’s contentious so rule it out. It’s like we were punished for our moaning for VAR last time out.

Actually felt for the lads tonight, some young guys and guys with little playing time out there tonight, and I don't feel like they could've done much more. They seemed genuinely surprised by the positive reaction from our end after the penalties, stood there and took it in for longer than I expected. Thought Vestegaard was good at what he had to do, distribution very good, not massively tested but then I see that as a reflection of our defensive organisation as a whole. Wing backs were unspectacular, but I'll absolutely take that, they never looked troubled and that's what I want from a full back, huge disappointment to see Cedric have to come on for Targett. Lemina brilliant as per, some of the stuff he does is effortless. Classic Hojbjerg, lots of effort and passion, little quality, Targett made a great run in the second half which needed a simple through ball down the left wing and everyone in the ground but Hoj could see it, sadly. That is symptomatic of our problems the last couple of seasons for me, just delayed passes and people on different wave lengths slowing us down all the time. Armstrong and Redmond both hard working and lively, only a few moments of quality between them but decent performances from both. Obafemi worked hard and was a great outlet, definitely something we've been missing, missed a sitter but it looked like he panicked and overthought what he had to do. I liked his presence and I hope he starts the next game to be honest, he chases lost causes which is something we're desperate for and is why Long gets games despite his obvious shortcomings, because no one else can do it until now. Overall very unlucky, and the irony of us being harshly refused a goal by VAR when we've had so many high profile incidents where VAR would've saved us recently was painful. But a massive shoutout to the 1500 or so of us that made it up there tonight and actually supported, rather than just watched, the team. I do actually think Austin had a point the other day when he tweeted about us getting behind the team, it's more of a problem at St. Mary's than away but sometimes we are quick to turn and whilst we have plenty of justification in doing so at times, it can't help performances. Tonight we were behind them from the off, and I've no doubt having a few youngsters on the pitch played a part in this, I didn't hear anyone groan when Valery or Obafemi chose the wrong option and went backwards - It seems so simple to me that if you're a manager under pressure, include a couple of youngsters to get a buzz back in the crowd, but manager's seem so reluctant to do so.

Absolutely can’t stand him, terrible, terrible player. If anyone says ‘who would we get that’s better than him’ and means it i’ll shoot myself. Been a huge part of our struggles the last two seasons.
-
Yeah I agree completely, I wouldn’t question his inclusion in the side at all, but when he is bad he is really, really bad. The first half today was almost Inter Milan at home levels of painful to watch. But I can’t fault his effort and I know next game he’ll probably be better and is definitely worth his place. But people need to see beyond his good interviews and he needs to work on his concentration in games.

Anyone giving Hojbjerg more than a 3 must not have been at the game, he was absolutely ****ing dreadful. Other than, we were pretty good I thought, Gabbi was absolutely brilliant, but no luck and poor officiating, same old.

Is it not equally likely that this jeopardises Hughes’ future given his friendship with Reed? Sacking Reed removes presumably a significant portion of Hughes’ support amongst the board.
-
Thats fine by me if we play Yoshida/Vest, given that they can actually win a header. Anything else is a disaster.
-
Isn't their success largely credited to the guy that owns them who also owns that football data company and they buy their players with the help of the data his company collects? Sure I read that somewhere.

Just said he's known Les a long time in his press conference and been involved with him throughout his coaching career

Yeah I would be unhappy with anybody off of that merry-go-round besides Allardyce (but granted think the general reception would be negative so probably wouldn't last with us either). For me, as much as I can't stand the guy, Brendan Rodgers is the semi-realistic dream - perhaps a new DoF and 'project' may allow us to attract a slightly bigger/better name than we would have been able to until this morning. I just feel like Rodgers needs a middling Prem success before he's worth a punt with another 'big' club. What he's done at Celtic is decent but he's still failed in Europe and their league is **** easy, I can't see a big club using his time in Scotland as a justification for hiring him anytime soon. Alternatively go back to the European route which I still maintain we didn't **** up with Puel, but absolutely did **** up with Pellegrino. Puel wanted to use the academy players, look at the overhaul he's done with Leicester (albeit the level of success is still debated among their fanbase like it was/is among ours), I think in that sense he was actually a very good fit for us and all the young players he tried to get involved regularly have gone from European nights and Premier League football to mediocre loan spells in the lower leagues. We shouldn't be adverse to taking a punt just because Pellegrino was so appallingly bad, at our level if you don't gamble you normally end up standing still at best, or regressing like we have in the last two years. We could easily become an attractive proposition once again, it just needs a few decent decisions and a bit of luck.

Either your maths or your knowledge of goalkeeper transfer fees needs some work! What would Pickford be worth after playing for Everton for two seasons? Probably more than Kepa cost Chelsea. (Not to say Gunn is any good whatsoever but that sort of inflation is by no means unrealistic these days for an English 22 year old goalkeeper)
-
Could be a few months of serious turmoil ahead as we try to adapt and combat the issues that are going to arise from this, like what do we do with the Gabbi song now?!?!? It's still relevant because he was bought under Les' reign, but are we allowed to still sing his name? Maybe there could be a poll on this too!?
-
That seems a bit bizarre
-
With Shearer's 100% relegation record, and Keegan's complete lack of bottle, I can tell you one spirit that would not be raised in the slightest!
-
Do DoF type figures bring their own staff like new manager's do? Wonder if Reed is the 'big name' to go, the replacement comes in and brings a manager/Ross Wilson replacement with him like Everton did with Silva and their DoF in the summer? Here's hoping.* * I definitely don't blame Hughes for any of what's happening, but feel we could do with a complete overhaul to start fresh and lift everything/everyone.

Allardyce hasn’t failed anywhere in football terms? He is incomparable to Hughes, Moyes, Pardew etc. He is extremely good at what he does, just like Pulis is. Whether you enjoy watching it is a different question. But to be quite honest I don’t enjoy watching us draw 0-0 and get spanked 6-1 either, so I am 100% sure Allardyce would improve us. Everton sacked him because they think they’re bigger than having him as manager, he left Sunderland for England, he left Palace for ‘retirement’. There’s plenty of re-writing of history when it comes to Big Sam.
