Not really sure why he gets labelled as not trying, i’d imagine he probably covers the most ground in most of our games. He’s by far our best player. The above comment about Hojbjerg contributing more to wins, well he also contributes heavily to many losses by giving the ball away to the opposition. Mario is a class above imo, and £30mil is way below his value in this market.

Manolo Gabbiadini: Joins Sampdoria - Official

Actually thought watching us play early balls today was encouraging for Gabbi, he’s been desperate for the early pass for about 2 years -
Saints 3 - Arsenal 2 - I should start threads more often

Also pretty sure we avoided yellow cards that would result in bans? -

Amazing. Every single player made a significant contribution to that game. Long and Austin on to combine for the winning goal was fantastic, so pleased for both of them, particularly Charlie who I think has taken the brunt of our frustration when not really deserved. A clear plan and a huge confidence boost for Huddersfield next week. Amazing what one game can do. -
We may not hold on but what a signal of intent for the upcoming huge games. Great to have Long on the bench to keep the intensity up later in the game! Presume that’s why the youngster is on the bench too!

Not the team I expected at all!

I agree. Play to his strengths and he could be vital to us, he was exceptional in that season under Puel. Really hope he can find that form under Ralph.
-
If Romeu is back to being the shield for the back 4 like he was under Puel, then for me he definitely starts. But yes is he's expected to do anything more than that then I'd be sceptical. I have a feeling Ralph will deploy him in that role he had under Puel though. Think Long may start too if he's fit enough, get in their faces from the off.

Whether his been at his best or not, he’s still in our top two best players by far alongside Lemina. He’s the perfect modern day full back, can attack and defend in equal measure. Horrendous CB pairings and goalkeepers do not help his perception among the fans.

Looking forward to going into a side against a big team and not just sitting and waiting to get beat. Hopefully we’ll take it to what is going to be a makeshift defence and play on the front foot. Appreciate this depends largely on a couple of our injured players returning, but if that’s the case then no reason we can’t take the game to them.

What was his excuse between December and February every year under Koeman?
-
Tadic was ****ing dreadful from the moment Koeman left, until the Bournemouth game last season. He was a huge part of the problem we had last season, no pace, taking too long to release the final pass and constantly rolling around on the floor instead of tracking back and helping the team. I've also no doubt he was a big part of the reason Pelle would go on his winter droughts every season, because Tadic would have one too and he was Pelle's main supply. Let's not re-write history, we would not be much better with the Tadic we had last season. I'm pleased he's doing well for Ajax, and I hope it continues, he was great under Koeman, but he was as poor as anyone after.

Or he could ask to play for the U23's to get MATCH FITNESS, by playing a MATCH. That'd show willing, rather than just moaning about training. Oh wait, he did that...

Great academy players who never made it in the first team

Great academy players who never made it in the first team

Often think of the lads who were thrown in and got relegated from League 1 for us. Most were so obviously not ready and can’t help but think it probably didn’t help them in their careers as many have gone on to have pretty mediocre careers at best, which given our academy record is a bit of an anomaly. One I really felt for was Kanye McLaggon who was breaking into the team and doing well at the end of that season but ruptured his achilles, and then the Liebherr’s took over during his injury and we never saw him again. Was in the Welsh leagues last I saw. -
At the end of the day, the ‘we’ve won 1 game in blah blah blah’ and ‘we’ve only scored this many goals in this many games’ stats mean absolutely nothing, nor do the number of points we have. The only thing that matters is how many points we are from exiting the relegation zone. At the moment we are one win away from safety, and all the while that is the case, we are in with as good of a chance to stay up as anyone.

Mad if anyone doesn’t want Bertrand back to be honest, head and shoulders above every other defender in the team. Their defence will be completely makeshift, if we can get Bertrand and one of our injured strikers back I feel we’re in a game.
-
I agree, I thought Vest may be the answer but last two starts he’s been sluggish. I think if things pick up and we stay up he may still come good, but for now he can’t play. A very frustrating day but it’ll pass and we’ll all calm down. But **** me Pierre Emile Hojbjerg may be the most overrated and under criticised player in our history. WHY CAN HE NOT PASS THE BALL TO A ****ING TEAMMATE. Honestly, the amount of times he passes to the opposition in every game makes me think he’s match fixing, astonishing.

Definitely not Long, makes sense for it to be Stephens but just looks slimmer and hair looks different

Presume Ings' transfer becomes permanent in January? given that it's compulsory and not an option to buy. Would seem unnecessary to wait until the summer to finalise it.

Time for the fanbase to stick with the manager whatever??
saintwbu replied to OldNick's topic in The Saints
Completely agree. There's a difference between watching the team and supporting them. Being at the ground isn't an automatic entitlement to groan every time we do something other than score a goal. Support them loud and proud and it will have an effect. -
Who are the guys either side of Hoedt behind him? they’re U23’s as well aren’t they?
-
Has to be this imo, easy for the crowd to pick up and will get a couple of laughs, perfect.

If there’s one team that aren’t going to be pulling out centre halves out of position and turning them round constantly then it’s Cardiff. We need a big brute who can win every tackle and every header, and he’s our man.
