He was last year. But we were shocking defensively. He could makes us a hell of a lot more solid defensively, and I don't think Targett would limit us that much more in an attacking sense. Personally. But yeah ideally we have Bertrand at LCB and Bertrand at LWB in a perfect world.
-
Seen it mentioned by others but I don't see any reason why Bertrand can't be 'our Walker' in a back 3. Adds the much needed pace to the 3 and allows Yoshida and Vestergaard to do all the aerial work whilst Bertrand cleans up like Walker did for England in the World Cup. Then allows Targett to be the LWB, which he did well for us on occasion, providing a couple of good assists, and obviously was a very attacking full back for Fulham last year.

I liked Pied. I saw him play once, against Palace at home which may have been one of only two starts? He got a good assist for Long to end that crazy drought he was on, and kept Zaha silent for the whole game despite clearly being absolutely knackered due to lack of match fitness. So he got one assist in two starts (and it was for Long which surely is more like 1.5!), compared to Cedric's 3 assists in 32 games. And people genuinely don't think we could get a better right back than Cedric...

Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business
saintwbu replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely THIS. Not sure how people don't see it. There's only so many times Gabbi can check his run before he ends up straying offside or running into traffic, because the player with the ball has taken soooooo long to release the pass. No one passes it first time anymore for us, it's always two or three touches first which just kills a striker that relies on his brain more than his legs, like Austin or Gabbi. Look at most of Gabbi's goals for us - near post flick in the cup final, bouncing ball in the box in the cup final, rebound from a long distance shot vs. Watford, bouncing ball in the box vs. Swansea away, bouncing ball in the box vs. Burnley away. He is brilliant in the box, but if the ball is never in the box then he may as well sit in the stands. -
LOL ask Spurs fans what they'd think about letting Winks go for 10-20m. Double it and add a bit and they'd probably consider listening, they think he's the next big English CM. Only we, in this market, would think £10mil for JWP is fair. We are turning down offers of £15mil for Targett. We accepted £16mil for Chambers about 4 years ago. He's English, he has an England cap, he's 23, he has played over 100 Premier League games, he has captained England youth sides. To counter all the 'if we were signing him from Watford we'd be up in arms' thing - If he was Spanish, with those attributes, we'd all be buzzing that we'd found the next Xavi or something stupid. He's decent, we are better when he plays, his deadball delivery is superb, you only have to look at Bednarek's goal at home to Chelsea this season. The players getting on the end of the delivery tend to be **** however. And if you don't appreciate his delivery then you clearly haven't been at games when Tadic and Bertrand have been taking corners to nobody. I personally will be very disappointed if we sell him.
-
I don’t see it happening in a million years but i’d be over the ****ing moon if Danny Welbeck was wearing a Saints shirt at the end of this week.
-
Im still adamant we are better when he plays, be very disappointed if he goes.
-
Would be pleased if he could be replaced by someone better in the air and better in his final ball. It seems to be suggested on here that it’d be impossible for little old Southampton to find a right back who could provide those things, but I really don’t see why, Cedric is just not very good. Targett, a left footed, left back, playing at right back, showed the other night that it is actually possible to deliver a cross to one of the team’s attacking players (twice!).
-
The away kit probably has too much blue on it to wear vs. Spurs given their home kit is now heavily dark blue as well as white. But other than that I agree, it's a bit of a pointless one. Third kits imo should be really loud - bright orange/lime green type thing.
-
There are few players i’ve enjoyed having at this club as much as Maya. I felt huge pride when he made that brilliant tackle on Lukaku to deny a certain goal last night, a real ambassador for this club who gives nothing but 100% every single day. Really gutted that they let their lead slip but I think Japan gained huge respect from the football world last night, absolutely brilliant.

Horse ****. It's been executed perfectly throughout the tournament with the possible exception of Argentina maybe deserving a second penalty against Iceland, but even that wasn't clear cut in my opinion. The referee's, too, have been absolutely brilliant and are completely embarrassing the shower of **** we have to choose from over here. The only thing that's been a shambles so far is the pundits/commentators and their blindness to how good VAR is/can be. Particularly Gary Lineker, who is a complete *****.
-
Same goes for Caceres, Ramirez and Osvaldo though. Likewise the whole ‘can’t sign players from Holland’ thing that’s always trotted out tends to come from the likes of Alfonso Alves. Van Nistelrooy, RVP, Eriksen, Suarez, Vertonghen, Pelle have all been fantastic from that league. There’s no proven method, but actually our signings from Italy as a whole have been dreadful (Lemina and Hoedt haven’t particularly helped) so maybe that’s where we should stay away from, rather than South Americans.

I was really considering getting a season ticket for the first time this season, as I stupidly assumed there may be a slight reduction to apologise for the last couple of years. But to know if I missed 3 games I would be paying more than just going to individual games made it completely pointless, and the idea that I would be paying around £580 to sit in the Northam, whilst I could sit 10 yards away in the away end every week and it would cost £380 in total was just disgusting. There is a lot wrong in football at the moment, and we seem to have become experts in how to completely embrace it.
-
I rate him, I think we're normally better when he plays, and he makes Cedric look infinitely better when he plays. He is never going to be a 'wow look at him' type player but I like his contribution.
-
Just looked up Fanatics, who are selling that shirt, and they’re big time so looks like that is legit, whatever it is. I like it! Ideally not as the home shirt but it’s still nice.
-
I always feel like this is because Tadic often delays the final ball, meaning Gabbi has already made his move and has to adjust and get back onside again. With Pelle it's okay because if the run has gone then you can just put it in the air and he'll win it, Gabbi can't do that. But it does seem like a match made in heaven so hopefully we see the benefit.
-
Wouldn't necessarily expect 'significantly better' than what we already have, just a better balance. We need a warrior who's going to dominate in the air and tell the others where to be, I don't think they're all as individually bad as people make out, I just think they all need someone to tell them what to do sometimes. Hegazi's got a bit of bite about him, he'll be an improvement I think, especially at that price.
-
Would definitely take Hegazi, and £2.5m in this day and age would be insanely cheap

Now we're safe, what a shame we didn't win the semi-final
saintwbu replied to Shroppie's topic in The Saints
My mate’s a Fulham fan, they have an allocation of 38k for the play off final, and season ticket holders can purchase up to 5 tickets if they want to. Make no mistake we’d have sold it out had we gone with that criteria. -

I’ve always felt that Ryan is destined to end up back at Chelsea, if anywhere. He’s clearly still got an affinity with them and the area, be interesting to know whether that’d be enough to stop him going to Spurs though if they came in for him. -
Three brilliant ones, also like the Rickie vs City one, and would also say Rickie off the bench against Chelsea to bring us back to 2-2. God I love that bloke.
-
I'm in no doubt whatsoever that he's the worst manager we've ever had. I'm in almost no doubt whatsoever that he's the worst manager the Premier League has ever seen. Nothing about timescales, he didn't try to win football matches, that is sensational for a Premier League manager.
-
Ridiculous for Bertrand to miss out. Rose has played 10 games this season, one of which being when they conceded 4 goals to a Leicester team on Sunday, who haven’t scored freely for months.
-
I would be pleased with Hughes staying. But agree, if it's not to be him then it absolutely has to be Jokanovic.
-
I agree, I want Hughes to stay, but I would be concerned about a manager in this day and age with entire control over everything. I've been excited by the idea of Hughes' patchy transfer history at Stoke not being an issue for us because he wouldn't have total control of transfers, but if he doesn't want a DOF then I don't think we should want him. Hopefully it's just a rumour and him and Les can strike up a good balance where he's not a bumbling yes man like MP, but he doesn't have full control.
