    Coronavirus

Grow up. This isn’t anything to do with bashing Tories. This is about lives that may be lost unnecessarily. Apparently one of our number is very happy that schools will be open for at least one more day. One day! Great. In that one day how many people might potentially become infected? Of course we will never know because there is very little testing going on. However happens to be in power makes decisions and those decisions need to be questioned to ensure they are the right ones and are robust. You don’t become immune to the virus just because you voted Tory. If closing the schools one day earlier saved the life of a loved one, would you take it?

You are a very strange individual. What would you say to the people, maybe a pregnant teacher, who get infected in the next day or two because the schools are still open. Suck it up?

    Coronavirus

The BBC are saying that many schools are struggling to stay open due to sick staff. Concern about pregnant teachers is also growing as they are now in the at risk group.

Thank you so much for making it clearer. I’m sure the many people who have been calling for schools to be closed now will be reassured.

No, it was aimed at me. Weston doesn’t like me having a pop at Johnson so he gets digs in where he can. Large gatherings haven’t been banned, but it is suggested that they don’t happen (at the moment). Same with going to pubs and restaurants. All very wishy washy and typically British. The infection rate is on a steep curve every day so at some point they are going to need to be more prescriptive.

Prof. Neil Ferguson, director of of the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Diseases says that “closing schools and universities would further reduce transmission.” But what does he know eh Duckie? Probably been reading my posts. A leading teachers Union is also calling for schools to be closed. You see, it is not just a few people on a football forum.

As far as I know, it is all about slowing down the spread of the virus, as you say. I have not heard that it has anything to do with freeing up services.

    Coronavirus

Funnily enough, I am not the only one who thinks that the schools should shut. But then what does my GP know? I suppose you haven’t spoken to anybody at all about the current situation? I suppose of of your birds and chicks are too busy rolling joints and listening to Leon Russell?

    Coronavirus

Just spoke to my brother who, with his wife, are self isolating for the 12 or 16 weeks, whichever it is. Trouble is their youngest daughter still goes to school so could come home any time and infect them.

    Coronavirus

Just heard that even though my wife is in her early 50’s, she will have to self isolate for 12 weeks too. Now it is a reality I can see why Whitey kicked off. 12 weeks at home. Bloody hell. 7 days seemed bad enough.
  11. As I have mentioned in the Coronavirus thread. Saw my GP this morning who is the surgery specialist in heart/respiratory conditions. He thought it was madness to let the schools back after half term. He and his wife also have childcare issues so he isn’t being selfish.
  12. Simon Jordan talking numbers on TalkSport. Says there is enough money in football to sort itself out.

    Coronavirus

From our local village Facebook page, people have been reported knocking on doors saying they are from the council and offering to buy groceries, only to do a runner with the money. It didn’t take the scum bags long to surface.

    Coronavirus

Just been to see my GP. He is the heart respiratory specialist in the surgery. Said it is crazy that schools went back after half term as they are “a breeding ground for the virus.” Not nearly enough respirators. Doesn’t matter how many more they make as they require 1-1 care and not enough staff. I have been upgraded to 70 plus at risk because of heart condition. Future consultations will by phone. Temperature and basic health question check on way into surgery, which makes sense. Tough decisions will be made about those given hospital beds.
  15. Not that I was around I’m 1939/40, but this is very much the phoney war stage of the virus. In a week or two, when fatalities increase many fold, perhaps they will realise, as Kopp said himself, there are more important things than sport.
  16. You would think so wouldn’t you? Yet somehow, if you point out that this is no different to any other large gathering and should be subject to the same considerations, you get singled out for derision. Go figure.
  17. Every year we close schools down for 6 weeks in the summer yet somehow we manage to muddle through.
  18. As you have turned this into a Covid-19 discussion, I will ask the same question. How is it countries in Europe and now New York City have managed to close their schools but still operate their hospitals and other services? They can cope with school closures, so why do you think we cannot? On the news last night they reported that many head teachers are worried about how they are going to keep there schools open anyway as a number have teachers who are self isolating. Instead of using this to have a dig at me, perhaps you should be asking yourself why we are not doing what others are doing to try and combat this virus, especially given the possible projected mortality rate. It is highly likely that the schools will have to close eventually, it is just a matter of time. Given your scenario then the country will grind to a complete halt and nothing will get done because everyone will be at home looking after their kids.

I did say operating as in open and working. I didn’t say coping.

Sick, dead. My point is surely finding childcare is not as bad as the possible alternatives. Stop being so sensitive. I’m not going to apologise for going out to get food for my wife and I. As one of the more mobile oldies I am also on the list of people in the village who can go and get provisions for others. We have a couple up the road who have just come back from Italy and are self isolating. I expect I will be shopping for them later in the week. But yeah, I’m selfish. Still, at 66 with a heart condition, you might not have to worry about me in a few weeks time.

I was saying it was inconvenient, but far preferable than having more people getting sick. How is that selfish? You need to calm down.

My local has cut the price of its draught beer to £3.50 in an effort to keep its custom. Fortunately it is privately owned so hopefully they will ride it out. Too many pubs around here have closed already.
