You could buy any striker in the world and we still wouldn't score goals in this formation.
-
Maybe Ralph should take a look at the Arsenal "All or Nothing" documentary on Amazon Prime. Arteta comes across as a very good man manager.
-
Tbf those screens are horrendous
-
This is a good point. He does always seem very downbeat.
-
I mean ABK can't be any worse, surely? Tbf I thought he looked pretty decent in pre season and looks a lot more comfortable on the ball than Bednarek. So even if he can't defend very well that's an upgrade.
-
His subs are my main gripe really. Game after game they just get more and more baffling. It's like he's watching a totally different game to everyone else. He has tried to change the formation to make us more solid, which doesn't look like it's going to work. We beat Spurs 3-2 last season playing the 4-2-2-2. I'm not saying we should've expected a win yesterday, but if you're gonna lose, at least give it a go.
-
Playing Adam Armstrong upfront on his own against Spurs is an incredibly odd decision that I'm not convinced another manager would do. It was never going to work. If you're essentially playing 1 proper striker it has to be Che.

Bazunu, KWP, Valery, ABK, Salisu, Djenepo, Lavia, JWP, Aribo, Stu, Adams.
-
After watching that today I would definitely play Valery at RCB on Saturday and drop Bednarek - the bloke is awful and doesn't want to be here. Also I'd have Adams upfront - despite not being prolific he brings a lot more to the table than Adam Armstrong.
-
Would like to see us try a 4-3-3 type formation. Bazunu; KWP, ABK, Salisu, Perraud; Lavia, JWP, Smallbone/Armstrong; Aribo, Adams/New signing, New signing. Two new signings required up top.

Not a fan of the home shirt but love the away one
-
Lyanco has actually had a few very good games. He has also made a couple of big errors leading to goals. Personally I think he is ok for 3rd/4th choice but shouldn't be a regular. Similar to Stephens. I still think we should sell Bednarek and one of Stephens/Lyanco and get in a more experienced player who can come straight into the starting 11 next to Salisu.
-
I mean Lyanco clearly did make a mess of it but it wouldn't have even got to that stage if the referee did his job properly.

Major revamp needed - but what are our priorities?

To stay up next season I feel £100 million or so will need to be spent on the team. Will that happen? Very unlikely. As others have said, the spine of the team needs addressing big time. I think we also need at least one wide player and another full back on loan whilst Tino is out. We also need a whole new set of coaching staff. -
Some Champions League final, that. Get him gone.
-
That is exactly what the club needs. An overhaul of the coaching staff. If Ralph is against it then he needs to be part of the overhaul as well.
-
All of a sudden next week's game is pretty important. Can't see us getting anything from the last two games.
-
As far as I'm concerned it's time for a change. That was possibly one of the most inept tactical displays I've seen from a Saints manager in years.
-
Forster, KWP, Lyanco, Bednarek, Perraud, Romeu, JWP, Elyounoussi, Tella, Broja, Adams. I'd revert back to 4-2-2-2 for this one. Stu struggles to play 3 games in a week so i'd give him a rest.
-
Whatever happens with Forster I just can't believe we gave a new contract to McCarthy. The only thing I can think is that we have a new number 1 lined up and McCarthy is going to be second choice.
-
I understand that and to be fair Ralph hasn't had a great deal to work with but what concerns me is that he doesn't seem to learn lessons from previous defeats. For me it was pretty obvious we should've switched to a 3 at the back a lot sooner than we did. In fact we played that formation away to Chelsea in the League Cup and it worked pretty well.
-
Has there been a worse home performance in recent memory?
Harry_SFC replied to saint1977's topic in The Saints
If we had McCarthy in goal and Werner was a brilliant finisher then it could easily have been double figures. In terms of effort and organisation today was absolutely appalling. -
This really. How much have we improved in the last 4 years? I don't think we have at all.
-
Personally I thought it was a penalty. Salisu is really clumsy and needs to calm down in the challenge. That's two or three times he's cost us this season. Stephens clearly isn't the answer next to him. I'd like to see Valery given a proper chance at CB given he's looked pretty good when he's played there previously. Adam Armstrong does have good movement and seems to be an intelligent player but his finishing is very poor. It's almost as if he tries to hit the ball too hard. At least there were a few positives - I thought Stu was very good as were Livramento and KWP. Need to stop the rot against Leeds in a couple of weeks.
-
Time to get rid. The fact he doesn't fancy playing in our biggest game of the season because he's worried about getting injured says it all. New CB desperately needed in the summer.
