  1. when you are facing people who really want to die as they believe they are going to a better place, you never know quite what they will do as they depart the world.
  2. Can you imagine it on here if the Saintsweb was around then? We have threads about 2blokes having handbags but those days!!, I do think the old bill enjoyed it
  3. yep you are right again. I doubt that it is just the reason though
  4. You can assume we would not go down, I am fairly certain that is the case as well, but not arrogant enough to believe we are fireproof. 45 years of being disappointed countless times makes me more cautious than many younger fans would be. Remember being 3up at Tranmere in the cup ,fans phoning up to buy tickets for the next round only to lose 4-3, Saints being something like 10points clear and going for promotion only for our star forward (Wayman) to get injured and we didn't win a game again and not getting promotion. Yes we are almost certain able to do both but I don't take it for granted
  5. Watching the fighting under the stands and on the Milton etcetera was always part of the match day experience. Not a case of a couple having a Barney because they were unhappy as a fan was leaving early, but mass fighting between rival fans. It was naive how the clubs and authorities dealt with it in those days. Pit was a period in time when young men had money to go to away games in groups and so the rival gangs would face up on the terraces.
  6. Do you mean on Facebook etc .
  7. I agree ,as long as it was not finishing in the relegation places aka Wigan
  8. it's not a case of not liking it,it is a case of who would be available and better? As for multiple teams with better, would Stockdale at Fulham or the keeper from Birmingham who went to Stoke and now on loan at Barnsley, both lauded on here. I have seen many keepers who fans on here have said get rid of our longstanding keeper only to fade away. It has been a comical ride, we had Paul. Smith and Blaney who would do better than Niemi lol Bart ,Gazza and others who would replace KD Only now have we a keeper who is better suited to be first choice
  9. ever since KD joined the club he has a section of fans who have waited in the shadows waiting to pounce on any mistake he made. His plaudits by his peers and player of the season awards are swept aside at his first error, and the told you he was no good posts came on here at any perceived mistake. Iam not saying he is a first choice PL keeper but he is a superb stand in. Yes he was shaky a at the start of last season but so was the whole defence, some would argue it was down to him, others could counter it was due to those in front not dominating etc etc etc. if he had let in the goal aka stoke and his distribution to Wanyama had cost a goal he would have been slaughtered on here. The man is loyal to our club and so should be given a little slack by people who always can't what to get their knives out for him
  10. he was behind a defence that is completely different to the one now. I can't recall what game he came on as sub but made a match winning/point saving save on the day. I don't think he is first choice but we are lucky to have a keeper that is better than A lot of clubs stand in keepers. No first choice keeper is going to sit on the bench in case Boruc gets injured.
  11. i haven't seen the goals at Sunderland but would Boruc saved them? It is pretty sad how KD is constantly disrespected on here. He never let us down and where we are due to him,And RL.
  12. Silly little things stick in the mind from those days. It was quite a thing when we had goalnets that were red and white instead of the all black that had the way for ever. That was very modern and progressive lol. the Albion band ,the RAF dog displays, the little club shop in the car park that only sold the odd badge, rosettes and scarves. What a revelation when the bright new shop opened in the Milton road in the 80s ?
  13. I was wondering more,if only very English team would gain us a bit more support or goodwill ,which in turn may gain us more supporters. I find it refreshing to see bright homegrown players pulling on our shirt.something that is reversing the erosion of the last 20 or so years
  14. From the age of 8 It was the most magical place for me. The dream of playing there was engulfing. Sadly my talent was overlooked. The excitement walking to a night game is something that is impossible to describe.
  15. We have an English nucleus to our team, will that reflect on how we are viewed by the neutral fans? I suspect more people will wish us well now we have a more home based team and many will want their own teams to go that way
  16. thanks for your info. Iam not trying to defend murder but I can see why sometimes hideous offences do happen in war
  17. tommy from WWI also would have done some war crimes. Sometimes prisoners taken in combat by men behind the lines would have been killed as they would have been impossible to bring back. This is just one example. I have met many veterans over the years from both wars and 1 particular crime relayed to me about the Japanese made a real impression on me.
  18. As long as he fights under certain specified conditions, do we know what those conditions are?
  19. it Gray and his sycophant sidekick, they are still smarting from being kicked off Sky
  20. there should be certain civilised rules in war,for decency and the assassination of wounded person doesn't sit well, but if I had been subjected to the stress and anguish that the troops have we may also do some pretty awful things.
  21. If anyone doubts his enthusiasm for the team, watch his joy when we score
  22. is that your number plate as I'm sure I've seen that on a car near SMS in the past
  23. It did get stuck in my throat
  24. I was under the impression that in the wars of the past anyone not wearing uniform and fighting against you were not part of the Geneva convention. The Taleban do not fight in uniform and so one minute look like an innocent farmer the next shoot you in the back. War brings out the worst in men.it is easy sitting back in our cosy world and judging but those soldiers face stress 24/7
