Was Lowe a lot closer to being right than we give him credit for?
OldNick replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
No i wont know as will very few. Apart from Arsenal and Manu very few clubs have kept their manager for a long time -

Which ones quit because they were unhappy? HR I suspect. GH went for the obvious reason, WGS left on a promise to his wife. -

LTC it is ok to make cheap pops like that, but they are all pertinent reasons. LM lost a lot under his football directorship, LC had 3 in less than 6months. How many managers have been replaced in the leagues already this season? When you have the modern football fan wishing for the manager to be gone before his first game then the revloving door keeps happening. -

I am just reporting what he said recently when his health was shown to be not good.I cant recall the illness he is suffereing from that he has had for a long time now. he did say the pressure was too much for him. -
Prince Charles but not same year, he often tells people his in on the same day as mine

I think this goes back to when the stadium was going to be built and the FA then said something about if the ground was big enough they might use it as a venue.Considering the FA are not in a great financial state then I dont think they will lend money, especially after missiug the Euros

Are you new to this forum? i think there was a poster a while ago who used to post under a similar name when things were going well. Then as it was suggested he'd disappear when things got tough and then return when things perked up again.Lol That same person was telling us that the stadium had started as well as the training facilities.I think you lot have become the donkeys and a carrot is on a stick 2 feet in front of you and you just keep walking thinking you are really going to get it. If you stay up in the next 3 years and the economy picks up a bit a buyer may come along and then MAY build a stadium, but dont keep thinking it is really there because it patently is not at present. You gimps need to realise it and fast.Football is losing its edge and the PL is fast becoming a tarnished product, fans like us have seen the days when football was more closer to the fan, not the ivory towers they have now.I enjoy where we are as in a mainly british style and a lot of the young lads coming threough. Its not PL glossy but the hurly burly of the old british style. If we were in the PL then perhaps i may think differently, but hand on heart i really dont yearn for the overhype over paid PL.

Souness walked out, said to be unhappy at transfer budget, (RL denied that he had been told any budget) immediately walks into benfica job.No interview process just straight in..odd that Dave Jones. Now tell me how RL could have kept him on? We have the Mc Donalds family centre, Ford acadamy (at that time) parents deciding whether to send their young lads to play in our acadamy, the players having their own kids, and then the Police drip drip of new offences being aimed at him. Even the fans who were supportive, in the main started to question as the 2nd raft of 10's of offences were published. No company would have been able to have kept him as manager, and at least we offered to support him during that time. Hoddle. Do i need to say more? Gray. He had the opportunity to go with the rest who GH had taken away but turned him down as he was loyal to the club. RL rewarded that loyalty by giving him the job.i wasnt too impressed but there is nothing wrong in rewarding loyalty.RL was decisive in replacing him when things were looking bad. WGS again he stated when he came that he would only be here for 3 years as he promised his wife so.WGS a man of his word carried that out.The news of him leaving destabilised the club and we couldnt get someone ready and it was all public , the results went on a steep decline, relegation form in fact.RL wished for GH to return, i like many others voiced our disgust. Sturrock, was a brave/reckless decision similar to keane/Ince appontments.PS has statd recently that the pressure was too much for him and so he resigned. Left again in the lurch Wigley was installed. He had rave reviews what he had achievedin the reserve set up, and glowing reports from the playing staff. Hit by a terrible run of injuries (a very unlucky period in time, 2-1 away at Arsenal in the injury time and van Persie hit a fantastic equaliser, Niemi injured pre the vital WBA game and his replacement makes 2 howlers and we only draw)he is replaced, perhaps too late but still over 20 games left. HR an exciting appointment, the fans in the main were overjoyed we were to be saved, and should have been. Basset/Wise caretaker. Showed nothing that they could improve things and after his outburst shwed why Wise would not be the man for us. GB again welcomed by the fanbase.Left under LC again walked out on the club, no fault of ours. NP taken on a short term contract(not immediately negotiated for longer by regime of time). Did adequate job, saved on last day, but united the fanbase.RL decides he wishes to use his own appointment . Jan under severe financial restraint, for long periods nearly worked.left too long before being nudges. Wotte??? All those appointments you have to go back to the time and assess the clubs position. If the fsans had had their way NONE of the appointments would have happened.(perhaps Hoddle and GB) -
I personally didnt see any.The marchers did it with the best intentions so i dont want to knock them.the anti Wotte and sitting in the highway were some very bad miscalculations and so the point got muddied. I noticed a march was not organised and rightly so as i doubt the Cardiff fans would have been too sympathic and it could have turned out bloody.
-
How many fans were worried about RL or Wilde after the PNE or Cardiff games? I didnt give them a thought and i doubt many did.The crowds wil come back in the main when the results improve. The club offering incentives is a positive IMO
-
Could be but also we normally get a good crowd.i also think they bring quite a few and if i m right dont the clubs have to offer the away fans the same price? Also some of the deal is aimed at the S/T holder, i noticed that RL/board have made it clear that if there are any incentives the S/T holders will get the credit or value.I think the Mna U game the s/t holders got preference to remaining tickets etc.
-
He made 2 terrible blunders.1 against PNE from a free kick his first season and QPR home where he got caught with the ball. Many games last season he was motm especially in away games. The main save i remember was at SMS when he got his fingetips to a shot from Lee Hendry when it was 0-0 against stoke. We went onto win by a single goal but it tilted the game in ourt favour. There were a lot more occasions but they all blur into 1 now.
-
How about the club want to get A) a big crowd to roar the team on B) fans rejuvenated into the ground that then may wish to buy s/t's and so return C) get a bumper crowd and that would say to whoever 'it has nothing to do with RL that fans are not turning up D) the club wish to make bridges and wont to instill some interest again

some were , many on the marches were but in general the majority whilst underwhelmed gave him a little time.We are a long way of having a new messiah as manager but i do like what he says and even the fans stuff was on the button IMO. The tone could change again by next monday but it is good not having the constant negative posts on here. -
All in your opinion. I cited loads of occasions during that season where KD's briliance had won us points. Many were too blinkered to see it though.JE also and his last second goal away at Wolves got peoples hope back. Neither are the best players that have ever worn our shirt but like Crouch, Fuller JE KD they have gone on to prove the knockers how wrong they were, DMG will do the same mark my words

NC Wotton is injured and i would to tell you he like KD is magnificent in bringing the team spirit together.SG deserves his place and there is no animosity because of that. I remember HR complaining that we had a quiet dressing room and under GB that carried on.KD PW BWP have got the dressing room full of laughter and spirit,a togetherness that an the old style English clubs got that little extra. I have not put this before as i thought some may scoff and make fun of before the fans could see how the morale had lifted a lttle ,but the team also do a huddle with the close staff in the dressing room before they go out onto the pitch. ALL the bits iam hearing from the dressing room are of a determination and togetherness. The players may not adore Wotte but they are growing to respect him and his methods.Have you noticed the way the team actually seem top know what they are doing and what they are supposed to be doing? A plan is being played to and so the players gain a belief not a confusion that was there until recently. We as Churchill said are not at the beginning of the end but perhaps are at the end of the beginning.(ps i do realise i am preaching to the converted) -
There must be something about Rasiak, he scored quite a few goals but lost a great deal of respect when he went all stroppy when AS wanted to take a pen a couple of seasons back.At present we have a team spirit, I respectfully suggest that Rasiak is not one that helps that.he also may score goals but it may be at the cost of his striking partners as he does not add to that.(I did see he set up a goal saturday)

It is amusing the stick I got supporting JE and KD last season and now look at it now. You wait DMG will turn them around as well.

I dont think RL is a master tachtician or the best thing since sliced bread. He has made some blunders.Keeping Jan too long as bad as many. He has got the balance financially right IMO and whether LC or RL attract more fans is unquantifyable. Good performances and winning put extra bumms on seats. Whether the atmosphere is better with a lot more fans Im fast realising is not necessarily so either. The crowd against PNE and Cardiff were in the main very supportive and real hardcore get behind the team fans that made the day that much more enjoyable.Having the plasic 'turn up when we are winning' lot and im not so sure that they are so understanding or forgiving if the team have an off day. -
Thanks for your view. There seems to be a growing history of problems between a few from both clubs. We had a couple of fns hit with a scoffold pole at yuor place and there was said to be trouble in the city before and after the game. Not a normal practice when most teams come.Without a doubt Cardiff Millwall to a degree (it has been stamped upon) Leeds and Pompey have al arge crew who are thick enough to want trouble.Sometimes these people pick on the wrong ones and get off worse.I myself have been to many games and also not been involved apart from in the 70's in Bristol when as young lads were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thanks Scummer didnt pick that. -
I must say it was a clear cut pen for us. Apart from that if we had the rub and not got a decision like Perrys handball Id be well upset today. Im a great supporter of Kelvin but he called for the ball and then didnt come , which caused the confusion.
