  1. Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time.
  2. He seems to be giving the Moderators the run around. It is only Miltonroader07 ffs. He should be easy to overcome yet the Moderators slip up and don't even bring in the Administrators. They have given us a couple of good years but enough is enough. They should walk holding their heads high. Bring in some Moderators with experience in handling Premiership posters.
  3. Have a look how many of his threads he started that have been locked since he registered. Poor defence moderator clark. You were better than this the last 2 years in Div 1 & Championship
  4. As Miltonroader07 has so many threads locked or deleted I assume he is breaking the rules. Why has he not been banned? If he is not breaking the rules why are so many of his threads being locked or deleted? Miltonroader07 to go or should it be the backroom moderators.
  5. Think you need to look at the quality of their fringe players Duncan. We are not in their league on that as yet. And what about the Reading Manager!!!
  6. Not sure why posters think Cortese will sack Adkins. Cortese has always made it clear the league is a priority Our first team played a tough league game only 2 days before We already have injuries to key players. Cannot afford more. Chance for club to look at fringe players and some of the future in tough game rather than practice matches or development games. Some were found wanting and it will give an idea where we need to cover in January Give the man a chance. He deserves at least that. We will not find stability if we keep sacking Managers.
  7. In the 60's away supporters could come into the Milton Road end and often did. However, at that time most of the away support were in the Archers Road end. Never got involved with Dougal. Seems he was a cult figure to some. Never rated him. I mixed with a lot of tough guys from Weston but never got involved with him
  8. Whilst one should never condone the alleged actions of the player it is a real shame some of our supporters are alleged to have abused him. He was signed because the club felt they needed an experienced keeper. They did not play him straight away but Adkins made it quite clear in interview that he wanted his experience for West Ham away and has clearly made the decision to continue with him against Tottenham. I assume he did not want a young, inexperienced but talented young keeper to lose confidence behind a defence unable to cope collectively with Premiership football. I also assume he had Davis on the bench because he felt it unfair to just dump him after he has served us so well. He has his weaknesses at the near post and his command in the box and distribution thinking time slow but he was a good stopper and kicker and does not deserve to be just discarded. He is a good back up keeper. As for the rumour of Gazzaniga going on loan to Bristol City, if I am right in my above assumption, why would the club let him go on loan to one in the bottom 3 of the Championship and themselves short of confidence? It just does not make sense. So unfounded rumour for me.
  9. Matt is a Vice President of Hampshire Cricket so I have to be careful but I have been disappointed with his media comments about Cortese of late. Incidently, David Griffiths, Hampshires First Team fast bowler is now a season ticket holder at Saints in the Itchen
  10. Looking at tonights table we have played teams in 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th and 9th 15th and 17th. Much to early to make a judgement. Let's see where we are when we have played more around us.
  11. Communication is an essential tool in business, both internally and externally. Southampton Football Club are , in my opinion, left wanting in that department both through the media and their own web site. I do not want to see a Chairman or the club having to answer every speculation. They are right to "no comment" much of it. However, they should attempt to build bridges with the local paper. That is a tool that will help encourage more to take an interest in the club, both young and old. They should try to build bridges with many ex players and use them to give positive vibes not the negativity we have seen since Mr Cortese took the helm. I am not talking freebee's although why not a life membership to retired players who have completed at least 100 league games for the club. They could be encouraged to use that membership in an "Ambassador" role for the club. We (The club) do have a past, present and future. It should be proud of its past, it should be mindful of the present and working for the future. There is a balance but, in my opinion, Mr Cortese and his administration team have got the balance wrong and it is likely to have a detrimental effect on the future support of this club and its income streams.
  12. If Portpin do take the case to court over valuation then it will be against the Administrators who still control PFC, not the Trust. The administrators will enter their defence that Portpins valuation is wrong and counter a valuation with their evidence. They will likely also enter within the defence that Portpin do not have a valid legal charge. As far as costs are concerned, if I was the Administrator I would now issue a "Part 36" offer based on the highest valuation, may be the one the Trust has offered. That will put Portpin at risk for all costs even before they issue proceedings.
  13. Posters are correct, it is not just about transfer fees but also wages and the desire for players to join the club. Let us take Ramirez for example. Cost us £12m plus 4 years wages of at least £8m. That is a £20m Pick up a couple of premier defenders like West Ham did and say the transfer bill was £3m. that leaves £17m for wages or over 4 years £81,000 per week. I am not knocking the purchase of Ramirez, far from it, as he looks a very good player and at his age will have a very good sell on value but it illustrates our problem on wages could have been resolved short term whilst we established our position. On that basis the article is a fair reflection of the difference between us and West Ham
  14. I am with you on this. As for Rogers quote to shut up. I wish he would. He adds nothing.
  15. Pre season is about getting match fit and trying different combinations. You want to be tested in matches but not overwhelmed by teams destroying confidence. When it comes to the nitty gritty of Premier football, for many it will have been a new experience. Like any steep leaning curve it takes a little time. Mistakes will be made but providing the player/s and Manager learn from that and become better players/Manager the ultimate aim will be achieved. For me this season it is about establishing a hold on Premier Football for next season. We have made some good purchases in goal, defence, midfield and attack. It is all about balance and finding players out in this league. We have found a few weaknesses that will need January purchases. At present we are not even in the relegation places. WHAT Do FANS EXPECT!!!!
  16. Funny how supporters think they know more than the club chairman and Manager despite them collectively getting us back to back promotions and returning us to the Premier League ahead of all our expectations. We do not know what players we targeted or what their response was. We know we went for a left back who tried to play us so we walked away, and quite rightly so in my opinion. We have picked up some very good players and the team/manager are on a steep learning curve. Give it a bit more time please. Negativity breeds negativity. There are a lot more positives about Southampton Football Club at present. Feed on that. You will all enjoy the ride a lot more!
  17. So who do you bring into that position who is better and as his skill?
  18. There is no doubt Harry Redknap was a good manager with certain clubs but there are a number of issues you need to take on board. First, he is on “old school” manager and unable to embrace the new culture in football Secondly he does not develop players sufficiently; he buys in experience and relies on that experience rather than his own tactical awareness. He is not into sports science. He would not be able to work with Les Reid who, like it or not, has a big influence at our club He would not support the “Southampton way” which is the bedrock of Cortese’s philosophy. He is and will always be a non starter at SFC A great man manager but a **** poor modern philosophy manager
  19. I thought Gazzaniga had a decent game. Looks up before the ball comes to him and has already decided who it is going to by the time it reaches him. Something Davis was weak at doing. Decent command of his area as well. Yoshida struggled at right back when he took over and it is clearly not a position he is used to or has the skill to undertake Watched Fox from close quarters in the second half and I am afraid Lallana did not support him enough in defence. Fonte looked assured but Hooiveld looked like a player coming back from injury In midfield Schneiderlin was fine but I was disappointed yet again with Davies. Little inventiveness, vision or forward driving for my liking. You cannot have him and Schneiderlin doing the same thing. It negates any forward momentum. Puncheon worked very hard to win the ball and use it. He lacks the football brain at this level but makes up for it with determination. I was very surprised to see him replaced so early on in the second half. Lallana worked hard but his end product let him down today. Up front in a 4-4-2 I thought Lambert and Rodriguez looked a good pairing. Again I could not see why Lambert was replaced! Chaplow does not come near a replacement for Puncheon. I have been a big supporter of Guly in the past but like Chaplow I do not think he is Premier material. Thought Adkins has the team set up well and we dominated the first half. Fulham came at us in the second half but we could have held them if he had not panicked and changed things around. We were poorer for the loss of the two players who were subbed and he has to take some blame for that decision. A draw came as a bit of a relief in the end but it should not have been that way. However, anyone calling for Adkins head or that Fonte’s late equalizer saved his job are wide of the mark. This team and it’s Manager are still learning about Premier football. They need time. I think they will just about survive as a Premier side but it will be a close call
  20. POMPEY CHIEF AGEES TO HOLD CRISIS PROBE Portsmouth Chairman John Deacon has agreed to an independent enquiry into the financial affairs of the club who are in danger of having to fold up if they cannot raise £25,000 by November 1st Daily Mirror Thursday 16th September 1976 Nothing changes!
  21. A big part of Southampton Player wages are based on bonuses and if the past is anything to go by they will not be straight forward. I believe last season almost half the wages were bonus related. Win bonuses were only 100% when the team was in the top two (which was a great incentive by Cortese as they never dropped out of that paramenter) If they had the bonuses were reduced to about 60% I suspect similar restrictions over league position, although tailored to meet our present requirements of maintaining our league status at the end of the season. I would imagine Gastón Ramírez would be on a similar contract condition. The talk was about £45,000 per week but I reckon that will include bonuses. That is about £10M over his 4 year contract and sounds more likely.
  22. Seems the PFT have been told it is SAF and others!
  23. assume that has something to do with your brother rather than in your working life!
