Inevitably the press are going to speculate. Adkins is fresh to the Premiership and we have a very ambitious Chairman (and we assume, the owners) Adkins is under unbelievable pressure and will have to grow with the job and the division or he will be history. You do not spend upwards of £30m in the transfer window with the sort of salaries that will go with them. I have no problem with Harry Redknapp as a football Manager. He did wonders at Spurs and was quite rightly considered for the England job. However there is no chance of him coming to Southampton. I am sure he would jump at it in a heartbeat but Harry is old school and that does not fit in with the “Southampton way”. Look at Pardew! He was old school and kicked out of the club. Fear for Nigel if he does not start getting it together after Arsenal game by all means but do not fret over Harry. This will be about long term Nigel or an experienced man with the same philosophy and culture, not an old dinosaur like Harry and his ilk. If the football press do not understand that then they do not understand Southampton Football Club

KP complained he was not being looked after properly in the England set up so retired from IOD's so he could play more IPL cricket! However his contract with ECB stated that if someone made themselves unavailable for IOD that would exclude them from selection of T20. KP then realised what he had done and announcd on YouTube he was available for all and reaffirmed his allegance to England. However he does not seem to have gone to ECB first. Then during the first test against SA it is alleged he sent texts to SA players indicating what he thought of some England players particularly the captain Strauss. Even told them how they could get him out. SA refused to release texts saying private betewwn players but banter only. KP dropped from next test boo'ed wherever he plays and in my opinion his England career is over.

There have been a number of conflicting tweets over this whole period lifting and then deflating some of our more prolific posters. The fact is that until Bologna and or Saints announce it, it is not a done deal and anything can go wrong. It has been reported by tweets today from so called informed sources in Italy that the Bologna President has said the deal is not done. It could be that both clubs have a pact that until every last thing is agreed and signed there will be no announcement of the transfer. It could likewise be that an agreement has not been reached. Before posters start putting him in the team line ups just wait and see.

Geoff, I have plenty of what I perceive "idiots" on ignore. Occasionally they are quoted and I can see they are still idiots. It works for me!

I have tried to put this all together from the many RUMOURS on this thread. It appears that the fee with all parties has been agreed and the contract with the player agreed. The stumbling block appears to be the method of payment and guarantees. It has been suggested to me privately that Mr Cortese considers himself honest and a man of honour and expects everyone to treat him the same. He may have been affronted at the suggestion that he needs to get a bank guarantee for any future payment. If Bologna, as has been hinted, want the guarantee to go to the bank to loan more money that is understandable. If it is still also down to the initial payment and period of instalments I doubt we will move too far away from market practice. That might create a dangerous precedent. I cannot see this going down to the wire. We need a quality player for that position. If it is not done by Friday we will likely end our interest and move on. Shame but not the end of the earth.

Spoke to Neil MacKenzie during the game and Umpires at the break and they agreed the wicket was 180 par. Neil said it was taking more and more spin. As soon as Katich was called on to bowl I knew it was going to be a difficult wicket.

Hope Mark and his friends got in. There were tickets on the gate for late turn ups. I asked that was arranged
-
Gate was just over 7,000. It was up with club expectations. Fantastic success. Source - Club Directors and senior personnel.
-
Can I suggest you turn up just before the start. There is every chance that they will open gates. 8,000 allocated to public in 13,000 capacity as they have 5,000 members who could turn up. Prediction is a gate of about 7,000 - 8,000 although the weather might convince thjose with tickets to attend. Hight percentage of those claiming free tickets have never been to the Ageas Bowl (formerly Rose Bowl) before Source? Club Management. Will not disclose the two different source names.

This thread is the perfect example of "Wait until it is confirmed by SFC" The deal has ebbed and flowed on here all day. Too many have taken it as a fact he is signing today. Be patient and let's hope we are not disappointed.

Very often when I received Solicitor or Accountant Fees I negotiated a settlement below the fee earners booked hours. Chainrai is doing the same here but it seems in public. PKF will not be happy with his £200,000 reduction but I am certain they will reach a negotiated compromise on the total account. The fact that Chainrai has allegedly cut his budget for players proves what most were predicting. He will run the football club on a shoe string to get hold of the PP's. Forget the PP's going into Chainrai's pocket as none of the other Div 1 clubs have that benefit either. It means PFC will be run within their financial means after years of excess. Benefit to their supporters is that they have a club still competing in the Football League. I have many decent Pompey friends all who have been dismayed at how the club was being run financially and I am pleased for them. For us, not only do we have our old enemy but it's wings have been clipped. They will struggle in Div 1 and the -10 points might just be too much and Div 2 the following season looks likely.

Halford told Solent at the Aldershot friendly that 2 of the 3 players left have just about reached agreement to leave the club. He would not name the 2 but as Kanu is in dispute and not talking it must be the other 2! Looks like the end game is approaching and I doubt it will be liquidation. They will emerge as a severely wounded club with a -10 and a bunch of trialists who are prepared to play for a song. Relegation next season and I will be happy they got what they deserved.
-
That was the three named by Adkins. He said he wanted to give them an early opportunity to find another club. He played them in the development squad to keep them fit and ready for a move. Solent say he also rubbished reports of Chaplow to Crystal Palace.
-
Forte, Dickson and Barnard have been told they will not feature this season and are up for a move according to Solent Sport interview
-
agree with this. 2008 was probably our best and the rest have indeed caught up a bit. Here we go.....

This last week I have been close to telling a few posters exactly what I thought of them (swear filter might have been a problem though) so today I put all 5 on ignore. Tonight on one thread containing 21 posts at the time I key this 10 were from those on my ignore list. Bless Ignore

T20 Finals for the 3rd season in a row, second in the County Championship 2 and top of CB40 group at present. Not a bad season so far.

You would have to question his judgement under your analogy, would you not? -
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11674/7928934/ Tal Ben Haim says he is prepared to help Portsmouth survive after administrator Trevor Birch said the player's wages were moving the club to the brink of extinction. The 30-year-old former Manchester City and Chelsea defender has one year remaining on his contract, but his salary, and that of a number of other high-earners, could see Pompey go into liquidation before the start of the coming season. Birch has imposed a salary cap, and an offer to buy the club by former owner Balu Chainrai is on condition that high earners like Ben Haim are off the wage bill. The Israel international spoke to Sky Sports News after Birch told the Independent that the player and his agent Pini Zahavi were "not helping" the situation at Fratton Park. Ben Haim said: "I've lost a lot of money, but it's not about the figures. It's over £2.5m net but I'm prepared to lose more, I'm prepared to help the club and lose more money. Fees "On the other hand, the administrator's fee is not less than what I earn. Nobody talks about that, so I prefer to lose more but he has to cut his fees as well. "I can say when it went to administration we sat with the administrator, and in five to 10 minutes we had a deal. "We agreed everything, Trevor spoke with us but then he disappeared for two months, so it's not our fault. "He forgot that you have to negotiate with the players and not with the press. The press are not going to sign a compromise, they have to sit with us and tell us the figures exactly." Greg Halford on Twitter this afternoon. I think the majority of Pompey fans know I'm willing to do anything I can to help the club and keep it living but for people who are asking me to tear up my contract need to know I am willing to do that but it leaves the club in a worse situation. The best thing for me to do for the club is is try and get a fee from another club for my services and pay off outstanding debts instead of making more debts for the club. Its the hardest thing I ever gone through and it kills me to see the club like this, but thats how it stands at the moment. I love this club and I want to see it survive

I have it on good authority that Walcott favours Liverpool. This comes from a friend who was speaking to a relation of Walcott a few weeks ago
