to echo Mrs Merton: "What first attracted you to the future King of England?"

FFS, there is a massive difference between some of the worst aspects of the British empire and what the Nazis did to the Jews in WWII. It was racially motivated extermination on an industrial scale. To give it moral equivalence is to denigrate the holocaust, not surprising from some characters on here.

I think there is a time and a place for anecdotal evidence. Basing an assessment on the total number of immigrants in a country as big as the UK on a stint working in a takeaway is just a little bit stupid. Their are no "non-natives" in my street. I therefore conclude that there are no non-natives in England. Thankfully there is a thing called the internet which is full of facts and figures, a little research might prove a little more accurate. Not really, there was no personal observation. The point I commented upon was an imagined scenario which implied that a workplace with increasing "non-natives" would be an unpleasant place to be. It's prejudice. So are you dissapointed that we don't have mob violence on our streets? Personally I enjoy the fact that this country is a bit more civilised than those that you refer to. Not really, as you note elsewhere I've agreed that these people should be prosecuted for incitement. How do you explain that threads that discuss white scumbags (paedos etc) never include comments like "kick them out"? Is it because these scumbags happened to be brown?
-
I thought the main driver in getting the ban was the health and safety of pub workers, struggle to see how smoking rooms could be introduce if that was the case. Not a smoker myself but never had a problem with it in pubs in contrast to restaurants and other public areas.
-
That's fine. There should be consequences for people like these who incite hatred and violence. I take issue with the idiotic comments like "kick them out!". Where? they are probably all British.

So you're basing your assessment of the number of "non-natives" in the UK on your experience of working in a pizza shop? really? Your just creating a strawman based on your own prejudice. Apart from in a few of our cities just where are these businesses that are solely staffed by non-English speaking immigrants? My local corner shop is staffed only with white people, the builders doing up the house next door are all local lads, the company I work for is majority white English men. I've worked with groups of "natives" and groups that have included "non-natives" - I've found ******s and good people among both. In the ****test workplace (a minimum wage facotry) I've ever been in the workforce was 99% "native". The hardest working, most respectful and friendliest bloke there was a recent immigrant from Iraq. Despite his limited (but improving) English he had much better social skills than the feckless lazy chavs that made up a small minority of the "natives". Is this another view based on perception or has this actually got any substance? Predominantly male city? that sounds a bit stupid. Predominantly beer drinking city? just like every other in the UK Predominantly white? yep, just like every other in the UK Predominantly racist? Not sure, not the circles I mix in but it wouldn't surprise me unfortunately. why would you have a problem with that anyway? Predominantly wife-beating? just another nonsense comment Thanks for your suggestion but I already frequently experience life in other cities and indeed other countries and other cultures. Perhaps that's why I'm a bit less fearful of "non-natives" than you? Aggressive? Maybe, while I regard myself as pretty tolerant I'm not that tolerant of ill thought out reactionary comment or casual racism. "They don't like you" who is they? "Non-natives" in general? or just "muslims"? Either way I'm not sure you can speak for them.

in my experience nurseries normally attract parents.
-
you said that local authorities had banned nativities. Still waiting for some evidence.
-
You really think there are 20-30m "non-natives" in the UK? What do you mean by "non-native"? sounds a bit Nick Griffin to me. not want to do what exactly? The upper classes certainly aren't upping sticks, they might be dodging tax but they aren't leaving. well that's certainly patriotic! I think I can basically summarise your post as "we're all doomed". Wherever you go at whatever point in history you can always find a doom merchant convinced the country is 'going to the dogs' and it was all so much better x years ago. yawn.
-
Well that certainly would be an interesting addition to the range of punishments applied to convicted criminals in this country. I fear it would fail however. Armed only with paddles and without navigational aides they would surely just drift back to our shores on the next tide
-
So a Telegraph survey of 100 schools which suggests that schools themselves are making their own decisions as to what event they put on is evidence that local authorities are banning nativity plays. OK then, you've swayed me.
-
It's not a retort. Just pointing out that saying things like "remove them" is brainless. You seem to accept that. Good for you.
-
Brilliant thinking.
-
where?
-
mmm, not really a workable idea though is it. Tolerance is one of this country's greatest qualities and puts us a class above many others. Lets keep it that way.
-
Have you actually got any evidence for this? Sounds like the alarmist crap you read in tabloids that turns out to be completely untrue.
-
errr, where do you kick them out to? chances are they are British subjects.

Wish you hadn't done that Dune, don't need mention of those lunatics on this thread. Plus they don't deserve any publicity.

Lol, and you think any of those factors were the reasons we went to war? The west was quite happy with Saddam at the height of his evil. It was about appeasing the US electorate who wanted to kick (anyone's) arse in the wake of 911 and securing oil and influence for the US in the middle east.

It doesn't say that in the article though - have you heard that elsewhere? - I guess the more pertinent question is whether or not the £30m debt held by the holding company was football club related or not? In our case it obviously was, in West Ham's case it was not. -
Plenty of good places to eat and drink, has been voted Curry Capital of Britain in the past. Shopping area is very extensive and parts of it are very smart but you're never too far from some very shabby looking areas. The "west end" is varied and pretty upmarket. Have been quite a few times and think that generally as a city it looks rougher than it really is and people are in the main warm and friendly. The surrounding countryside is a big plus, Loch Lomond is stunning.

Rubbish, Corp Ho argued very convincingly at the time that the Toilet Bowl would more than pay for itself.
