He certainly speaks for the majority of the nation, so much so that a massive 6,000 odd people out of a total of 10,000 odd could be bothered to vote for him.....

Not unless Osborne went to a girl's school http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harriet_Harman This is a real egg in the face for Harman and I've got little sympathy for her but in her defence Danny Alexander is a bit of ****.

The fact is that had capital punishment been in place in the 70s then the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four would have been wrongly put to death. Just because capital punishment is an option shouldn't mean that extra scrutiny is applied to cases. All serious charges should be tried to the utmost scrutiny anyway. A conviction beyond reasonable doubt surely means that the judge and jury have discounted any prosecution shenanegans . Given a prevailing political climate and a corrupt police force the mentioned cases show that it is pretty easy to gain an incorrect decision. You say that you could have very serious penalty for those committing perjury but we've seen time and again how difficult it is to get any sort of decision of wrong doing against the police. That would only become more difficult if coppers were potentially liable to be hanged.
-
You say that but would the death penalty have been applied to the Guildford Four or the Birmingham Six? They were pretty extreme case with high loss of life.
-
Benjii, I think it is important that laws are not just morally justifiable in their own right but also that they work properly and are fair to all sections of society. It not a moral objection to the death penalty, it is an objection on the basis that application of the death penalty won't be fairly applied to rich and poor

Some key differences: Ours happened after some major cuts in our income, Sky money coming into Pompey was actually on the up. Secondly the vast majority of our total debt was investment in infrastructure not wages. But if you can't afford the £6m in the first place it makes no difference. To be fair Pompey did really well in some instances like Diarra which was great business but agents fees, paying off other clubs and needing quick sales meant that the end result from most of the deals really didn't turn out as well as they could have done.

I'm not sure it is elitism, more looking like you are no longer a small child.

Yes, "life" does already mean "life" - they are on a "life tariff". Are you actually asking should they spend all of that tariff in prison? If it is pre-meditated murder then I think they should spend the rest of their life in prison with no parole. Disagree entirely with execution on two main points: Firstly only those too poor to get decent legal representation end up being executed. Richer murderers will either plea bargain down to manslaughter or get off entirely. Secondly there is always the risk that innocent people will be wrongly executed (think how many high profile miscarriages of justice there have been in the last couple of decades).

The lack of style shown by Americans at the dinner table is amusing. With handle of the fork wrapped in the palm of their left hand they stab their food target and begin cutting. Upon finishing cutting they swap the fork into the right hand and scoop up the cut food as though using a spoon. I call it "the toddler method".
-
To Cable: During the financial crisis many commentators said that you had the best handle on what was going on. Now that the Lib Dems are u-turning on so many manifesto pledges because "they didn't realise how bad things were" does that mean the commentators were wrong? that you didn't actually know what was going on? To Cable: Are you going to join the Conservative Party or are you retiring at the next election?

I don't know why but I'm still surprised about how gullible the majority of pompey fans seem to be. They really think that Chanrai is 100% genuine and has done no wrong in the past year.

You ever been to America?

Any skate care to enlighten me as to the Riquelme/Maradona/Pompey Village/Toilet Bowl situation?
-
Don't know, but if he was would he not still be the chairman of Hull?
-
Yet more made up Pompey bull****. Man U, Arse and Chelsea shirts masively outnumber Pompey shirts at the kiddies football I help out at on Saturday.
-
FFS Corp Ho, that post is probably even more embarrassing that your posts on the Toilet Bowl harbour stadium, on Maradona becoming manager, on Requelme signing, on Pompey Village, on the Tipner stadium, and on the sheer wealth of your new owner. You really have made a habit out of embarassing yourself.

Corp Ho owned....... again

To be fair to the MOD you have to compare Apples with Apples. Our services are deployed around the world whereas Israeli forces are concentrated in a very small location. In addition a large proportion of Israeli defence spending is upon US 'off the shelf' products (tanks, aeroplanes etc) so the expertise and administration of procurement and the supply chain is massively reduced. Further much of their service personnel are conscripts so hit the budget to a much smaller degree than our professional personnel.

errr, but they are better than us and they do play in a higher league than us. c..k -
Won't say too much (in true Delldays fashion) but reading this thread does make me lol. The internet is great isn't it - a medium that allows a random group of people to sprout opinions on complex subjects based on minute or even no knowledge - not that I've ever been guilty of that..........

Now we know why he screwed up Ted Bates #1

Is there a copy of that thread hanging around somewhere? So funny. What I found most funny were the comments from people who said they'd been given a sneak preview and thought it looked great. -
Not been a Labour supporter for a long time but have to say: Ed 1 Dave 0. The child benefit issue gave him a bit of an open goal but he handled himself well and put Dave in his place when he told him that he was the one who asked the questions. I'm not sure if he'll be able to get the better of Dave on a regular basis but only a dyed in the wool Tory would say that Dave got the better of it yesterday.
