I'd love to be proved wrong, but I don't think Walcott would be a good signing. He is an older version of Redmond with a bit more pace. Apart from Ings (Romeu yesterday), we don't have a lot of clinical players and Walcott is not clinical at all. He isn't a very clever player either and is constantly offside. I guess apart from the wages, he would be relatively low risk. Good PR from the club too

I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about him, as I don't. From what I have read and seen on videos etc, he seems to be the player we need. Pace and the energy to get us up the pitch and counter attack, but also the pace to get back and recover the ball due to the pressing and high line we play. He also looks like he can play a long pass to set up a quick attack. Time will tell, but at the figure quoted, he could be a bargain.

Boufal would be the best player at Millbrook Goals 5 a side.

I echo all of this. I try and write the above, but tend to do it in a very angry manner just after the match and lose my point of view haha.

Most of us said the high line would kill us against Spurs and suprise, suprise that happened. How on earth can experienced coaches not see that spurs would eventually cotton on to that and send he ball over the top. It's pathetic management, it's clear we don't have the centre backs with pace to do this or a sweeper keeper, so don't PLAY THAT WAY until you have the players. Get a couple of results and then bring in Salissu and start playing that way. Ralph blamed lack of pressure on the ball, but you cannot do that for 90 mins and you cannot have that high a line with full backs so far up the pitch against Spurs, let alone anyone else in the Premier League. This was such a wasted game in my opinion. Spurs were there for the taking and we gave them the match, through our own mistakes. Yes Adams missed chances, but you cannot give goals away like we did today. People calling Stephens the "cornish Maldini" last season were mad. He is bang average, as is Bednarek. I doubt we will get an investment, but a loan signing like Danso last minute. I like Ralph, but it won't be too much longer before he is fed up with lack of investment and the squad depth. The signs are already there and you could sense this with the post match interview.

Wish I hadn't of paid £10 for that rubbish last night, it ruined the rest of my evening. People saying "we were so fit when we came back from lockdown, why are we not fit now?" are forgetting you couldn't do anything else, but exercise over that period. This time, they could swan off on holiday doing instagram videos etc. We have been so far off the pace the first two games it's worrying. Palace had their whole back line missing and Brentford played most of their second team and they were both miles better than us. * Romeu - Not good enough and far too slow. Centre mid who is strong, powerful and can get us up the pitch quickly is a MUST! * Centre Backs - The first 2 games they have reverted back to being awful. The quicker Salissu is fit the better. I would drop Bednarek. Backwards passing, zero pace and always worries me. * Tella is no better than Sims and it appears we are playing Tella to show people we are using the youth system. If they are not good enough, don't play them. * Long and Ings is the best striker partnership and I would sacrifice Adams to get confidence back and the pressing we have lacked so far * The high line with the full backs so far forward will be our demise. When you have centre backs with no pace, we will get hammered by top sides. Son and Moura will have a field day Sunday and I am extremely worried about Sunday. This is not be a bed wetter, it is plain to see for an average fan that watches Saints. A lot of work to do and investment needed (that won't happen).

For me, this was almost as bad as Burnley away on the opening day of last season. Crystal Palace had their first choice back 4 out injured and the performance was awful. What worried me the most is that we seemed to revert back to the poor stages of last season with zero energy, no ideas and looking exposed on the break to a high line to a poor Palace side in my opinion. A better team would have battered us with that high line yesterday. To bring on a centre back at half time to give you more of a forward pass option is extremely worrying. We need a centre midfielder with power and energy who can drive us through the gears and break forward. Romeu is a good squad player, but not a starting player. We desperately need a creative player to break teams like Burnley, Palace, Newcastle, West Ham etc down. Otherwise we will get nothing from teams that sit back and hit us on the break, especially with that high line with centre backs with no pace to recover (Salissu has pace). As people have mentioned, Armstrong was a big miss. We cannot solely rely on him for creativity, others have to step up (Redmond, JWP etc). The bench was poor and we ran out of ideas. I know if was the first game of the season, but if Ings is being marked out the game or not having a good match, what other options do we have? Never dull a moment being a saints fan and optimism dampened down already.

Good to meet you and all the other guys too. Definitely have to meet again for games next season. Up the Saints James

Thanks, I'll probably join you guys there

Just moved back to London and would rather watch the game with other Saints fans in a pub, rather than behind the sofa on my own. I live and work south of the river, so if anyone is watching, let me know what pub. COYR

Was wrong about that one. I don't claim to be ITK, but I've heard we will sign one more player from the French league for around £15 million. Don't know the player, just know they're a forward and Fonte definitely not leaving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Relax guys, Fonte isn't going anywhere this season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Will only leave he forces a move, we won't entertain any offers otherwise Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Appointing a big name manager like Pellegrini is not out style and I think if people did a bit of research into Puel they would be impressed and fits the Southampton model perfectly. My understanding a week or so ago was that Puel was first choice. For Nice to finish just off 2nd in the French league and to reach the semi final of the champions league is very impressive. I sometimes think Saints fans think we can appoint a Guardiola style manager. Short term memories we have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

CONFIRMED - Mane joins Liverpool for £34m + £2m addons
saintjimbo83 replied to toe_punt's topic in The Saints
I think people better get used to the idea that Mane is going to Liverpool. His agent has a massive say in his career unfortunately and the main factor in driving this move. I just hope Redmond and Kostic are good additions to the squad and not replacements for Mane. Mane is on a completely different level to them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I reckon he off to Liverpool. African agents have a bigger say in players careers that the actual players. Klopp loves Mane and is their main target this summer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
