trousers Posted 25 June, 2009 Share Posted 25 June, 2009 What scenario do you think would work out best for the club in the LONG TERM? Starting in League One on -25 points (which I fear is where we could be heading if the FL 'win the legal battle' with Pinnacle) or Starting in League Two on zero points (I'm not sure if this is a feasible sanction in our current circumstances but has been mooted on here as a possibility)
sunrise Posted 25 June, 2009 Share Posted 25 June, 2009 At the moment, it would be nice for a club to support next season! The stalemate between FL and Pinnacle is very frustrating.
trousers Posted 25 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 June, 2009 why would it be league 2? surely it's either -25 league 1 or 0 in conference? i'd still opt for conference. Aye, could well be true...I guess the question I'm posing is more about the principle behind trying our luck in League One with a swinging points penalty or wiping the slate clean in a lower league, whatever that league may be. kpturner Posted 25 June, 2009 Share Posted 25 June, 2009 What is the point? You might as well ask if I want a one inch knob or a half inch knob. Neither thanks. I stick with what I have got (it's a whopper) ;-)

trousers Posted 25 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 June, 2009 (edited) What is the point? Good question! Have been asking myself the same thing for 2 years! You might as well ask if I want a one inch knob or a half inch knob. Neither thanks. I stick with what I have got (it's a whopper) ;-) Almost a good analogy (me speaking from a position of little strength of course!)....trouble is, Saints do not currently have a big knob. We currently have a one inch knob but with minor erectile disfunction....the choice is between a one inch knob with even worse erectile disfunction or a half inch knob with no erectile problems. trousers Posted 25 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 June, 2009 League 2 or Blue Square rather than -25 in League One. Looking at the report of Darlington coming out of Admin and only just scraping the timetable deadline for start of season I think the 'demotion and clean slate' is, alas, looking more and more palatable than milling around at the foot of League One all season

kpturner Posted 25 June, 2009 Share Posted 25 June, 2009 League 2 or Blue Square rather than -25 in League One.Why would Blue Square be more appealing? Surely the point is that with -25 it is possible that we will end up in League 2 the following season, whereas if we start in League 2 on zero we may be in League 1 the following season (if we get promoted). So it has to be a toss up between which one gives us the best chance of being in League 1 or higher the following season - which rules out the Blue Square does it not? It depends how slippery the slope that we are currently on is (IMHO)....languishing at the foot of League One this coming season could cause a domino effect of doom and gloom....a more buoyant season at the top end of a lower league COULD get us back up the ladder quicker in the long run.....perhaps.... The9 Posted 25 June, 2009 Share Posted 25 June, 2009 I'd have to say we should try and stick at the highest level we possibly can, deduction or not. I don't necessarily think it's easier to stay in a League with a -25 deduction than it is to get promoted from Div 4, but with the way we've been the past few seasons I think I'm more inclined to think hanging on to whatever we can is the way to go. Just in terms of attendances alone there's more money in League One, and who knows whether we can afford to employ even our ex-Academy players on Div 4 money ? Saints foreva Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 0 Points in the BSP. Both roads surely lead to League Two in the 2010/2011 season....
krissyboy31 Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 League 2 on zero for me. L1 on -25 would be a wasted season, which would probably end up in relegation anyway. At least starting this season in L2 on zero, it gives us a chance of building a team for the future and some momentum within the fanbase. I reckon we'd have bigger average crowds if we're going well in L2 than fighting a near hopeless relegation fight in L1.
Red Stripe Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 Can't blame the FL - we were sold down the Swanny by our own planks. Starting to look dodgy now mind!
saints_is_the_south Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 I wouldn't go as far to saying it would be a hopeless relegation fight. 75/80 points would be needed for safety, so promotion form which tbh without any points deduction most of us would all be expecting a promotion push, so staying up wouldn't be completly out of the question. Sheff Saint Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 Posted this the other day. To survive in League 1 next season with a -27 point handicap, we'd need to get what S****hrorpe got last season. Which was enough to get them up. I'd fancy our chances more of a promotion from League 2 in 09-10 (four go up) than surviving in league 1. We'll need less points in league 2 to mkae the play offs than we'd need in league 1 to survive!

OfnPanad Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 Agreed. +1 - Blue Square with a fair shout of getting out of it. Same outcome either way but at least we'd hit League 2 on a winning streak (a la Doncaster)
Baird of the land Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 League would never allow us to start in league 2 so i'd choose the -27 over ceasing to exist.
Whitey Grandad Posted 30 June, 2009 Share Posted 30 June, 2009 I'll be turning up whatever the division. All I ask is that we have a team that gives 100% and never stops trying.
