Latheal Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 (edited) Don't know if anybody else is interested but saw this at the telegraph website - interesting to me to see what the other clubs are doing. Leeds have been tipped to do well this year but their supporters don't seem to be that happy with Mr Bates at the moment (and still haven't signed Sodje). For those of us expecting a 2-5million spending spree, interesting to note that only 1 deal incoming to League 1 has reached 500K. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfers/5494052/Transfers-League-One-summer-2009.html Edited 26 July, 2009 by Latheal

red&white56 Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Thanks - that made for very interesting reading. There's not a lot of clubs spending money on tranfer fees - maybe their wage bill goes up when they bring in new players(?). We're one of two clubs that have made some serious money selling players. Pat from Poole Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 How did Wycombe manage to sign Michael Duberry? I think the best signing of the lot could be MK Dons getting hold of Jermaine Easter. He looked pretty lively for Plymouth against us a couple of years ago.
Latheal Posted 26 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Kinda makes sense why AP wants to hit the free transfer market first, soon they'll be nothing left! Did notice the amount going out from us as well, thought we got more than 1mil for Surman but not sure how accurate the article is.
S-Clarke Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Huddersfield look to have bought well. Robbie Simpson was highly rated at Cov when they first signed him from the conference. And we sold Surman for an initial £1.2m rising to £2m, which is dependent on appearances/achievements and wolves avoiding relegation.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Steve Morison could turn out to be bargain for Millwall at £130k

Eire Saint Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Tore Andre Flo was at MK dons?? Missed a vital penalty in the play-off shootout as far as I remember, not a great way to end a career.

Keigon Parker and Phil Jevons have also been good players in this League. Huddersfield are definitely a strong bet for the play-offs. Will be a tough first away game for us. Badger Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Agree about Huddersfield being in the final mix this season. Norwich have quietly gone about their business with some good signings for this division.
Saint Paul C Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 How did Wycombe manage to sign Michael Duberry? Perhaps he was influenced by Peter Taylor being their manager - the power of a reputation alone can deliver some decent freebies.
hamster Posted 27 July, 2009 Share Posted 27 July, 2009 Can anyone confirm where Grant Holt will be playing next season? He's still listed on the Shrewsbury site, and that telegraph list, but wiki says he's at Norwich. I reckon he's one to watch as he enters the **** or bust period of his career. Fan The Flames Posted 27 July, 2009 Share Posted 27 July, 2009 Interesting read, the average transfer fee is under £200,000 and only 17 transfers going for a fee (including compensation, undisclosed or tribunal). The difference in dropping two divisions is frightening.

Don't agree with most of whats written there tbh. Brighton won't go down, i fancy them to be near the top & i think we'll also finish higher than 15th.
