Channon's Sideburns Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0StQKf5NRp4 I thought that it would be good...to see again how we destroyed the 'mighty' Reds... My favourite bit (listen closely) at 5mins in, just after Rideout hits the post..is the bloke who shouts.. 'You lucky b@stard Dalglish..!' Good reminder for some of the younger posters on here why us oldies (even at 34) get sentimental...;-)
The Godfather Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 (edited) Still won of our best wins and performances. 15 games into the season, Liverpool's first defeat. I remember one of the newspaper headlines the following day "Ding Dong Dell, Dalgleish is down the well". Jason Dodd's home debut after his debut at QPR a week earlier and another 4-1 win. Channon78 Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 First ever post! Had to post on this as it's reminded me why I'm a Saints fan. Happy memories. What a team we had back then; Le Tiss, Shearer, Wallace, Osman, Case, Flowers, Dodd, Rideout... takes me back. Bring back the glory years, can't wait for the new season. COYR. warsash saint Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 After the Keegan era, I drifted away from following football.....I remember watching the highlights of this game on ITV's Sunday football program & it convinced me to return.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 5 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 5 August, 2009 I think we all forget how good Chris Nicholl was at the helm....remember at the time we thought 7th was not a good finish.. How wrong we were. Ok, signing Alan McLoughlin aside...what was it he had ? Salt deficiency or something? Just remembered something else... Milos Drizic ....we couldn't sign him due to work permit problems, but we got Ruddock!

Reminds me of the game that really got me loving Saints - another Liverpool win in the snow with a pink ball! - think that was 4-1 or 4-2. Cant wait for Saturday now! ecuk268 Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 Chris Nicholl had played 4-2-4 away at QPR the week before and we'd stuck 4 past them. So he kept it the same for Liverpool and even Kenny Dalglish grudgingly admitted that it could have been 6 or 7. Liverpool were one of the top sides in Europe at that time and we completely out played them.

Alright Dave Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 Great seeing that again. I was at both this game and the 4-1 away win at QPR the week before. That front 4 was deemed great then, but in hindsight it is quite simply one of the best any side could ever of had

That front 4 was deemed great then, but in hindsight it is quite simply one of the best any side could ever of had Was at both as well, that whole season was class, fast attacking football, loads of goals, should never have got rid of Nichol, easy to say that now I guess! Rod Le Shearer Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 that match was one of the reasons I started supporting Saints,at the age of 9..thanks for the reminder, great game ! seems as we,historically, play our very finest football against Liverpool..2-0 relegation season anyone ?? these two matches are the best I have ever seen Saints, especially considering the standard of the opposition

Katalinic Posted 5 August, 2009 Share Posted 5 August, 2009 (edited) Just remembered something else... Milos Drizic ....we couldn't sign him due to work permit problems, but we got Ruddock! That made me remember I wrote a letter to Football Monthly complaining about the Milos Drzic work permit issue and it got published. I think he ended up at Dunfermline or somewhere and was awful apparently. Wasn't there also a goalkeeper we nearly signed but had the same issue - Ola By Rise or some name like that? Also did we nearly sign Gordon Cowans with Paul Rideout - around the same time that Mark Brennan chose Middlesbrough over us!! Seem to remember the Cowans link as well..Rideout's a Lymington guy, he always used to go up to Wellworthy's Club after games, even when playing at Everton..think he's is the US now... We've had a few progress..Russ Perrett (Bmth & Skates.)..Sam Vokes is from Lymington as well.
