Patience

After a heavy sleep the first thing I did this morning was log on to see what muck was being spread after our second consecutive away defeat.

And, surprise, surprise, it's the typical negative spiel, which is all too familiar on here.

Come on people, we're three matches in. We're in minus ten points, have a new manager, new owner, need to build a new squad, new coaching system, and a whole new infrastructure at the club.

It's time for us to be realistic.

We need 60 points to survive, simple as that. Yes, promotion would be nice but it won't happen this season. It's time we all take a step back and realise it's quite nice to actually have a club at all.

Let Pards build his squad and create the environment he wants. The club has the club been torn from pillar to post for it to immediately do well.

Former players, club staff and current team members have pleaded for patience. And I know it is a rare commodity but it's vital to the futurity of the club.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

I am worrying a little at the moment but dont expect us to lose on Saturday

If we can at least win at home then I'll not panic. Saints are not good travellers (at least not in the past few years), but if we can pick up points at home we can consolidate this year. For me the real test is Saturday. Brentford will come looking for a point, but hoping to steal 3. They will be up forit - big stadium, big club, big audience - it will motivate them. This game will be a test of our character.

We were good away from home last season better than at home

Saint Peach, yours is far too reasonable and realistic a post to be popular here this morning. The sad truth is that much of our squad would struggle in the Blue Square leagues following a long period of selling anyone good, underinvestment and poor, poor choices by those that make decisions.

However painful watching the current team is, we just have to give Pardew time to bulid and mould his squad. It's obvious he doesn't have blank cheques to write to help fill the holes in the team, but he has made some good purchases on the face of it and now we need to wait and see.

We need to see progress, that's all, and we need to see it soon. Zero points or better by the end of September seems reasonable and let's hope that the likes of Norwich and Brighton keep helping us out by shipping shed loads of goals!

Of course it wasn't .... but, even allowing for the Pinnacle "delay"..... I cannot understand the DELAY in getting a decent CB ......

..... I can't see how we can get Jaidi a Work Permit, and as the CB situation is IMHO, the weakest postion to replace ....... I do not understand WHY we have not attracted anyone else

There MUST be others out there, and it seems that players WILL sign for us, so what is the problem ???

Looking at the fixtures, I think 4 wins from the next 5 league games is entirely possible, even despite capitulation last night. Charlton away aside, there's a good mix of middling difficulty home games and easier away games to come. Assuming we sign a couple of CB's by the end of this month (or one perhaps even before Saturday), I think September could prove to be a very good month for us.

Two defeats and a draw is unacceptable, but I'd rather we got them out of our system now than towards the end of the season. The second we put any kind of run together, we have the quality to sustain it and march up this league.

I think by the start of October, we could well be on +7 to +9 points, it's just a case of the players we have, and the players we sign, pulling their fingers out their buttcracks and playing well for the club. As Pardew said last night, all our goals have come from poor/no defending at set pieces. Rectify it (as we have done partially with Hammond in the midfield engine role), and we'll have a tighter defence than a ducks anus.

I'm remaining positive. Sure, the elements of panic set in, but that's just what we've (wrongfully) become used to. The future of the club is now stable, set to the back of your mind what might happen in the future, and let's concentrate on getting the 3 points against Brentford! (If only because 3 of my colleagues are Brentford fans.)

I personally cannot wait until September 1st. I'm not working, and I love watching SSN on transfer deadline day. I get the inkling that we might be seeing a fair bit of activity that day, roll on the 5 pm deadline! (Although I do prefer the deadlines at midnight, but that's the bank holiday for you!)

Good post. The above is key - if we have not improved in the areas needed by this time, then I'll be getting quite concerned about the prospects for the season. Xmas window will be too late for us this season due to the -10.

I'll go with a mixture of the deadline for transfers and the 19th of Sept to be on Zero points. If no more transfers & by the 19th were say still on minus 3 then not even Corporal Jones will stop me from panicking.

I don't think you should discard the play-offs just yet - not 3 games into the season with the nucleus of last years inexperienced squad, a few newbies and with more likely to follow. Once the team settles and becomes accustomed to AP's approach I expect some good sustained results taking us well up to the table

18 pts off the top

15 pts off play offs

10pts from relegation and goal difference is not better either

43 games left

was hoping to have eaten into that 10pts penalty by now

League One is not easy. The teams down here are harder than ever. We have a new team and we're playing experienced professionals.

Millwall reached the play-off final, Huddersfield will get promoted this season and Swindon are a tough side.

Why do most fans still have Premier League expectations?

Is it premier league expectations to expect a start of season deficiet of -10 to still be -10 after 3 games... and by the way Swindon are not a tough side!!

I think some fans do need to get a proper perspective and take into account that the start of our season was never going to be spectacular with the combination of some tough starting fixtures, new management, rebuilding a squad and Pardew to try to instill a winning, positive mentality within the team.

Time is the key element and if the fans can give Pardew and the coaches a little time (August & September) to hopefully bring in 3-4 new faces, I'm sure the wins will start to come. As i said in another post, most of the teams haven't faced a huge upheavel, like Saints have experienced, during the summer.
