Olly Lancashire v Beckford

My god there are some bitter, twisted morons on here. What's up - are you all jealous that you never made it as a pro footballer?

Lancashire is a Saints player and yet for, some, he is the latest in a long range of scapegoats. Rather than support and encourage him, snidey remarks appear the order of the day...well I hope your bosses are as unsupportive of you for any little mistake.

Pathetically unbelievable.

You're completely right. Things might have been different had the last lot still been in charge of running the club and he was currently in the first team. But he is a young player finding his feet out on loan. If he returns a better player and makes the grade, then he deserves praise. In the meantime he deserves encouragement and those who are constantly sniping at one of our own youngsters should have a good look at themselves and consider whether they are worthy of calling themselves fans.

Are you jealous because you had to do a normal job all your life?

I take some degree of satisfaction in the knowledge that through my efforts several other people are kept in work. Do you get the same satisfaction, I wonder, from hitting a small ball into a small hole?

Yes I do. Because my office is outdoors, I get to travel all over the place, meet new people every day. And I get paid to do what most people do as a hobby.

Bit pointless though isn't it - not as though you're changing anybodys world. Do you think one day you'll look back and think maybe you wasted your life playing? Thats what kids do isn't it?

Lol who are you to judge me? How do you know that I don't support charities or donate a portion of what I win to charity?

If I had to quit golf for whatever reason, and end up doing a job that I don't really want to do, just to make "ends meet", then I will look back and think I've wasted my life. Why should I do what everyone else does when I have the chance to do something I enjoy?!

You could say the same thing about anyone who does a sport for a living anyway.

As for "that's what kids do"......do you ever watch sport on tv?! I don't see many kids playing professional sports.....

Not if they provide entertainment to people.

FWIW I would love to be a pro sportsman, and I couldnt give two stuffs whether anyone else other than my family would benefit!

There is a big over-reaction form one of the posters on here in support of Olly. He has been dire almost every game he has played. The team looks weaker for him being a part of it. We are entitled to an opinion as fans of SFC, the same way our bosses are entitled to a view of us if we keep stuffing up at work and look incapable.

I really hope Olly can turn his carreer around because at the moment it does look like it's heading south.

Sad but true but first impression count for a lot ..(even too much) as many people never forget career debuts.

Unfortunately for Ollie, he's had a string of unfortunate occurances in his time so far. Memory serves that he was great in the Academy / U18 side but his first team career hasn't started well. There were a lot of youngsters who got the " Dutch curse " on their careers last season, were played unwisely and later suffered for it.

Giving away penalties, own goals and two red cards don't really help Ollie's image. The red card v. QPR last season was a travesty, as there were far worse fouls in that game that didn't get even a word of caution from the ref.

BUT history will relate Mick Channon's debut game goal, and Alan Shearer's hat-trick v. Arsenal was a great start for two teenagers, who to be fair came into GOOD teams and neither were needed for first team action until 12 months afterwards.

Players like Martin Crainie, then 17, when given the left back spot - in an away game at Chelsea : (couldn't get his head out of the way of a rocket shot and conceded an own goal). Things like that stay in the memory and no-one forgets.

Martin Crainie has managed a passable league career and was a good captain of England U21s too, but he never impressed the manager of the day when he was here.

Ali Dia wasn't the only " one-game nightmare " player we've ever had, but it's beginning to look like Ollie's Lancashire's future (and I hope he has one) ...may be... elsewhere.

If the video I took of his "pass" out of defence at Swindon ever makes the internet his career will be stone dead with immediate effect.

Crikey, touched a nerve there.

Wasn't judging you, just wondering ? I have no idea who you are or how far you are going to go in golf, but was curious. I get that pro-footballers provide pleasure to millions by playing, and thats a good thing - just don't know how that relates to someone who never quite makes it? A mate of mine was a (crap) professional tennis player and he looks back with a bit of regret. By the time he had to quit it was too late to really change and do something else effectively.

So... there you go.

On the subject of Olly Lancs. I think he deserves another chance.

Don't think the guy who wrote this post is too keen on our Olly http://thefishy.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1257631840/s-new/

I saw that - a top post! And I know exactly how he feels - guess most fans have felt that way sometimes!

But I saw in another thread on that board that Olly played OK and some posters were saying they hoped he'd stay for the whole season.

Good luck to him..
