Saints 1976 FA cup run tickets.

Just recently whilst visiting a local business in town, I happened to come accross a frame of Southampton FA cup run tickets from 1976.

They were all there from the third round Aston Villa game (costing 80p)

up to the final at Wembley(cost £1.50)

This is probably not something to get excited about as I would imagine there are a fair few of you out there that have the same tickets still in your possesion.

The thing that has intrigued me, was the semi final ticket.

This particular ticket at first glance looked as it should until closer inspection.

The kick off time was stated as 3pm, normal I here you say, until you look further down the ticket at the bottom and it requests that you take your seat by 7pm! YES 7PM!

I knew someone else at work also had all the ticket stubs so I asked him to check his.He came back to me today and informed me that his just said kick off 3pm, no further mention of the 7pm bit at the bottom.

What I would like to know is, is the ticket in the frame genuine with a printing error? or is it a fake and has anyone else got this same error on their ticket?

I was just curious to find out if maybe that ticket could be valuable because of that time discrepancy.

£1.50 !!! i dont remember them being that low. There again it would have been a standing ticket i would have thought. My brother went to every game, i sadly was too poor to go to Villa away or bradford.

Are you sure he went to every game? I must add him to my list. As far as I know there are only about 8 of us who did. I collected all the names in a little file. Most missed Villa away.

Got my Cup-Final ticket in front of me. Turnstile A, Entrance 23, East Standing Enclosure, cost £2.50.

That was the season I started going and I went to most matches that year including all cup matches home and away. I think my uncle was glad to have somebody to take to games as he didn't have any sons of his own.

I suppose I was quite lucky my first year as a proper supporter. A couple of years later my uncle started supporting Leeds and destroyed all of his Saints gear including his old tickets.

There were more than 8 Duncan. Four of us crammed into a Mini for the trip!

There were also some Spurs fans there. We met them at a service station and they decided to come with us when we told them that their game at Stoke was off because the stand roof was on the pitch!

One of the four I cannot remember his name, he looked a little like you. Then there was Noel Burke (Warrens ex Eastleigh), a guy called Jim (he drove Barcro's van) and myself.

I think he meant all the games on the cup run, i doubt the spurs fans did.

re the semi, I was in the old stand , and my seat was £3.50 At that time we were paying about 50 p (kids) to stand at the Dell I think, I really had no idea a football ticket could cost as much as £3.50 .seemed like a fortune.

I'm absolutely certain I would have remembered if the time was wrong on the ticket, just don't miss stuff like that when you are 14.

Incidentally, I'm pretty certain Villa at home would have been pay on the day for terraces- because I was in the Archers surrounded by brummies- the upside being that I was RIGHT behind the goal where hughies equaliser went in.

Do you have Mick Lucas, Robin Richardson and the sadly departed Bob Weekes on your list, London Saints one and all who definately did every game

I have been infracted for going to every cup game (home and away) in the 76 season. Interesting way to treat the fans, Saintsweb. Is it because you are jealous or do us old faces not fit in with the new fans? Have you infracted all of the people who went to all the games that season. Will I get further infractions for my near exemplary attendance record every season since then? Please advise. By the way, I still have all my ticket stubs, as does my brother. My dad hasn't even got his marbles anymore so doubt he has his tickets (he didn't keep stubs anyway, but me and my brother were quite young so kept them for every game).

I still see Robin from time to time. Steve Jones (Eastleigh) worked on the Railway in London and travelled with Robin and Mick so I'd not bet against him having done all the games. Thanks for the reminder about Bob Weekes also, he was a fine fella!

Was it Jim Barnard from Fair Oak you were talking about?

I find it amazing that there were what 100 max saints fans at Villa Park for the replay and a lot of these did not make West Brom, Bradford and Stamford Bridge or even some home games and yet there are a lot of people claiming they went to all 8 games.

Perhaps i will start a thread and you can put your names down and swear an oath.

If you are one of the incredible bunch I suggest you start a thread about how you're leaving the forum because someone is insinuating you're a bull****ter.

That's ****ing disgraceful, why did that get infracted? Which one of the (jealous) mods infracted a fan just for going to every game in the cup run (and being able to prove it)?

I can't imagine that happening back on saintsforever.

I think we've had a thread on this previously Duncan. I couldn't vouch for Jim going to all the games (I believe he may have been Jim Barnard, see a PM I'll send you) but I was referring more to your comment that there were only 8 at Villa for the replay when, clearly, there were 4 in our little group alone!

As to seeing all the games in the run?

I did, but have no proof whatsoever, along with Noel Burke, Steve Jones, Robin Richardson, Mick Lucas and maybe one other who I shall enquire of and confirm yay or nay later.
