Season ticket holders

Has anyone else experienced difficulties getting their own seats for cup matches i.e. JPT, FA cup etc., when you have booked the seat just a couple of days after they have been released. We used to have our seats guaranteed for a certain period of time before they were released now apparently the club are saying that they cant guarantee you get your own seats no matter when you buy the ticket or what stand you sit in.

Nope, not a problem for any of the games. I'm sure ST holders had a week to claim their seats for the Norwich JPT game anyway.

No they didnt have a week to claim their seats and that is where the problem lies, it hasnt affected me but I know of some that it has, they all sit together and OK you could say that as a group they could book seats altogether elsewhere, but that is not the point they want to book their own seats.

Sorry to litter this forum with facts, but they did have a week to claim their tickets -

I read on the official website that tickets for the Norwich game for ST holders would be on sale until (I think) 28th November and that they were guaranteed their own seat if required. After that they would be on general sale. I went on the 28th and got my usual seat. No problem.

*Just seen previous post. Memory still good at moment!!!

Sorry I was referring to the Luton game in particular, ST's holders in the Itchen were not guaranteed their seats I would presume this is because they have closed the Kingsland stand. I know a few ST's holders who are very unhappy as they have not been able to get their own seats and therefore will not be attending, even though they applied to get them a day after they went on sale. Why cant ST's holders in the Itchen get their own seats and given a week to get them before others can buy them.

Eh? Why though? A season ticket doesn't guarantee your seat for cup games - simple.

Why does it matter if they have to sit a few seats to the left of where they normally sit or a couple of rows back?

Would they take such a stand if we were playing the Skates or someone like Arsenal.

Why open the whole stadium when it is likely to be only around a third full? I think it makes perfect logistical and financial sense.

The lady is questioning why the season-ticket holders cannot have a few days' exclusivity to be allowed to buy their own seats. Going to the match is also a social event and regulars like to catch up the gossip with their neighbours. It is one of the few privileges of having a ST. The ticket office were expecting about 16,000 which is half the stadium, although I would have expected substantially more than that if the main Kingsland had been opened. This is of course entirely a commercial decision for the club but I would expect that a substantial numer of STs will not be going because of the stand closures.

Thank you WG exactly what I was getting at although it hasnt affected me I would be pretty miffed if I could not sit in my own seat in the Northam and obviously do understand that my seat is not available for some cup matches if the opposing team takes their full allocation, but then that applies to all the block.

ST holders do have a week to buy tickets (granted, there is no guarantee of getting 'their' seat) and they get a £5 discount (on the adult price) on a ticket, and yet still people find something to moan about.

I'm sorry but I can't see what else the club could have done really?

Why should the club waste money just so people can find out what the person who sits next to them got in the sales or where they are planning to go on holiday this year?

Simple really give ST holders a week to get their own seats before letting them go, its not rocket science. We used to have the box on the season ticket renewal form asking you if you would like to be automatically sent your seat for any cup matches and your cc debited accordingly.

Opened the Kingsland Centre and worked outwards from there? There is a higher proportion of STs there and they are more likely to buy tickets than others, I should have thought.

Well I'm sure the club will open further blocks of seats along the Kingsland, if/when demand dictates it.

I can't see the point of moaning and groaning about it over just one game, especially as a season ticket guarantees you nothing for cup games.

Would that not be construed as favourtism by many?

Kingsland pay the same price as Itchen. If Itchen were given any period that would be detremental to the Kingsland season ticket holders who might want to book the first day to get a similar position on the opposite side of the ground. It is bad enough saying that the stand is closed without then saying season ticket holders in that stand are treated less favourably still than the Itchen. There must be a level playing field when ground restrictions apply.

It hasnt just been the one game though and as I said previously it is not affecting me but I can see the guys pov on this one. He has been a ST holder at the Dell and SMS for over 45 years and should be able to have first option on his own seat for cup games, if he leaves it too late to buy the ticket fair enough but he hasnt.

I would have some sympathy if the whole stadium was open and they didn't reserve the season ticket holder's seats for them but that is not the case for the FA Cup game.

I presume the group you mentioned earlier in the thread have got their own seats for the Norwich JPT game?

Interesting debate this one.

If the whole stadium is open - I agree that ST holders should get time to claim own seat. But if only parts of the ground are open should those with seats in the bits that are open be given priority over those s/t that have to move?

I have my own seat in the Kingsland for the JPT and I assumed that the FA cup would be the same so I went to the TO first thing Monday morning only to find out that the half the ground was not open. I have no problem with that in itself but the OS only says 'only certain seating blocks open in the Itchen, Northam and Kingsland stands', which could hardly be more vague. It's not 'moaning and groaning' when a customer raises a point about customer service, and before anybody starts talking about fans supporting the club through wind and rain, a large proportion of the people who go to games are not as dedicated as most of us on here. Many are elderly and of restricted mobility and getting to the game in the middle of winter is enough of a problem, let alone trying to get tickets.

I think you fail to see the glaring and ridiculously obvious reason why this cannot happen.

The Kingsland stand is not open, therefore - and you may not like this bit, because there are other season ticket holders in the ground other than in the Itchen stand!!! - they cannot possibly get their own seats!

Besides, doing it the way the club are, DOES give the people who sit in the Itchen a chance to get their own seat - unlike the Kingsland, who have NO CHANCE - they just have to be the first ones to call, visit the ticket office or book online!!!

The club has been run badly by idiots for many years now, personally I think picking holes in this common sense approach we now have is a bit petty, and if those people who have left it too late to get their own seat are going to boycott the game because of that, then we will probably be better off without them!

I'm in block 5 so booked early on Monday and reserved the four season ticket seats normally used. As there was no reserved seating period the problem is made by delaying. I think booking on the first day is the surest way to get specific seats when other parts of the ground are closed.

Woah, steady on! The club is still a business and every extra ticket is desperately needed. We are still deep in recession.

So what you are saying is that 6 people, all who are most probably over the age of 60 and have been season ticket holders before most of us on here were born cant sit together for cup games but can for all league games. So instead of just upsetting the season ticket holders in the Kingsland by moving them they have also upset the season ticket holders in the Itchen stand who cant sit in their own seats. It may seem petty to most on here but as previously mentioned I can see their pov. So if they decide to shut the Chapel down for one FA cup game and move them to the Northam, the Northam ST's would not be able to claim their own seats.

No, it's not what I was saying at all - and I think you know it ;)

However, for clarity, what I was saying is that those 6 people who sit in the Itchen, DID have a chance - however slim that may have been - of purchasing their own seat, if they had acted quickly when the seats went on sale, unlike people who sit in the Kingsland who had NO CHANCE - none at all, zip, nada, nothing - of purchasing their own seat, as their stand was closed!!

The same rules applied to the Northam but I suspect the only place the Kingsland ST holders would be inclined to want to sit would be the Itchen for obvious reasons. I think if specific seats are an issue then the common sense action is to try and book on day one before they are taken.

Yes, that's exactly what we are saying as a season ticket only guarantees your seat for league games and not cup games.

I can see both sides of the arguement. I suggest the 6 can buy a block of seats together still, but not their normal ones.

We are all in this together and should they not all join and get on with it.

If they are not ablew to get tickets for Wembley (if we get there) then that is a different matter Imo

Not true, the ticket doesn't guarantee the seat for any match. The club can allocate an equal value alternative at their discretion under rule 6 in the front of each season ticket.

In reality the seats are never changed nevertheless they can if they so wish.

That is of course true but I seem to remember something in the prospectus about 'guarantee you seat for cup matches', or was it just priority booking?

I don't know but the terms and conditions are explicit. I think that the problem only arises when lower than normal gates are expected because of the competition/opposition and the club close sections of the ground.

Usually the whole ground with the exception of Blocks 1-3 is open for popular later stage matches so we all get to reserve our seats.

It's a commercial choice for the club but for some people it's another reason not to bother buying a season ticket...

I think that if the club wants to only open part of the ground, they should just list on the website and in the programme exactly what sections are open and which are closed. I only found out that the Kingsland Centre was closed because of Whitey Grandad's post.

Why make it so unclear?

When you try to order online (this seriously needs a general sorting out) it doesn't state which sections are open. I tried clicking every section in the Itchen and they came up as unavailable. Then asked it to choose me 2 seats - gave me 2 in the Itchen Centre (previously this was coming up as unavailable). Purchased these. Clicked for printer friendly receipt - received a £20 receipt for a Corporate Hosptiality booking, though my order history states the correct seats. This was on Monday - tickets not received yet.

Running our own business, I know that making it hard for customers to spend money with you only winds them up. Make it clear and simple. And if customers have been with you a long time, don't upset them above anyone else.

Although the majority of the Kingsland isn't open at present,The North corner of the Kingsland is open i've moved my seats from Block 35 to Block 36 for Luton game, recieved the tickets today.

In the new 'Supporter's Charter 09-10 season' on page 4, the 4th bullet point states:

"For home cup fixtures, season ticket holders will be given a priority period to claim their seat". Note: "their" seat not "a" seat. So the Club is not following its own guidelines for the Luton match.

I can understand having to move for the early rounds of the JPT evening matches, when a small crowd was anticipated, but I cannot recall ever having to move for a Saturday FA Cup match before.

That's what I find strange, that the club are only expecting 12k to 14k for this match. I can't see it being much different from a regular league game, after next Tuesday there's only Exeter until the 9th January. Of course with half the stadium closed there is a danger of it being a self-fulfilling prediction.

I think things have got out of kilter here, it's all about balance. Unless anyone is trying to say we should keep the Kingsland open irrespective of numbers or cost, what the club have done is the fairest and easiest way of getting things done.

What the club has done is made things as fair as possible, cheap as possible and by far the easiest to organise. Tickets can be ordered early because you have no waiting for which season ticket holder is taking up their option and the greater possibility of fitting in groups, because you no longer have to fit in around those season ticket options. Plus you have no favouritism to any season ticket holders for this cup game. This has to be by far the best way of doing things in this instance.

Unless you are trying to argue the point that Liebherr is tight and should keep the Kingsland open. There is really no logic in your position when you consider the requirements of all, rather than a few.

TBF I phoned up when the JPT tickets were on general sale and asked for ST seat in the Itcehn 4 and was given it and the seats around it, I was lucky they hadn't been sold yet I suppose, but there wasnt any question of it. I havent booked my Luton tickets yet, will inform you when I do as you all seem distraught by this quite frankly sensible situation of not being able to guarantee ST seats when it is not financially right to open all the ground. They havent been doing this all season for cup games so dont get why the fuss now.

Hi LS we have two seasons tickets in the Northam. Ive moaned and emailed asking David Luker why for the JPT game with Torquay the put us in the Itchen Stand. His reason for that was that the Northam was closed for that game but opened at later stage. Then again Monday (first day for seasons ticket holder to purchaseord there tickets) ordered two seats for the FA cup game on 2 Jan and again they have put us in the Itchen centre. Moan over but l know what your are on about COYR
