Boxing Day Public Transport...

Too tight for me! Miss that one and the next is 07:10 Saturday. I have caught the 17:10 once but it nearly killed me.

Just read that the football club 'strongly recommend' taking the bus to SMS on Saturday.

Can they also recommend how people get back to the city centre by c5.10 to get some of these last buses (BS 1 & 9), bearing in mind injury time means the game may not finish until gone 5, and an expected crowd of somewhere near 30K?

That's just for the lucky ones who have a bus running at all, not sure that Bluestar realise that the 26th is a Saturday FFS! Cheers Bluestar...

According to the page on the OS the last buses for those routes are 1950 and 1910.

Edit: Just seen Whitey's reply. You're right, that's useless - I can't see why the OS is running this article.

I think that's Christmas Eve. You'd better check with Trousers to see what date that is this year ;)

I can confirm (having looked it up in the dictionary - call me Mr Consistent if you must) that 'The day before Christmas day' this year does indeed fall on the 24th December.

You and Neil are right. I'm wrong.

Wago is still better than Antonio though.

And Boxing Day is still on the 28th. Even if they changed it to stop people moaning about it being too complicated ;)

Of course, all this speculation regarding which day is what forgets the impact of Time Zones. It will of course be Christmas Day when it is Christmas Eve.

Which is probably why taking a bus would be the wise choice.

Don't worry though, I'm sure the weather will screw the schedule up...

But, in reality, seems the management at BS cannot be the brightest commercial buttons on the planet. There's Saints having a huge Boxing Day crowd with many wanting to go home after a few beers and the game and they haven't noticed. Surely they could have put on some "Football Specials"

Ho hum

At least Blue Star are running some sort of service - First Bus aren't running anything. Amazing really as West Quay is going to be open and the Next sale starts on Boxing day. Blue Star don't even serve the Sholing/Woolston area so anyone from over that way has no choice but to walk or drive (or plead with family for lifts)!!

Bluestar No 15 serves Sholing, comes from Weston, along pompey road, up Botley Road, along Bursledon Road and then I think it stops in Bitterne. At least you'll be half way there.

Mmm.... could catch it to Wrights Hill and knock off 20mins of the journey.

I emailed Bluestar saying it was asking a lot to expect people to make the 9 from West Quay at 5.10. I got the usual crap about how it was expensive to run boxing day buses etc etc. I replied back that maybe their advertising guff should say instead "Saints are playing at home on boxing day, take advantage of the bus and watch the 1st half and then leg it to make sure you're not stranded".

The other thing to remember here is that the last bus back is guaranteed to be packed. Anyone relying on that bus can't count on getting on even if they make it on time.

It's an easy thing to miss but the top part of the page is Christmas Eve. If you scroll down even further to the Boxing Day (26th December) sevices then you'll find route 4 is not among them!

stop moaning

many years ago we used to walk from Townhill Park/Bitterne Park to The Dell on Boxing Day with a pub crawl on the way

Fair enough, that sounds like good fun, but this 26th happens to be a Saturday and there's going to be tons of completely unnecessary car journeys made into Southampton, on a day when West Quay / Ikea etc will presumably be packed anyway, and with 30k at SMS!

The bus companies have really screwed this one up badly, and I think Saints should have pointed this out to them. A lot of car journeys will probably be made of no more than 2 miles within Southampton, as fans just drive a bit closer to SMS!

Hope everyone manages to get in, and gets as many beers in as they can somehow!

I have a lift to the VT v AFC Totton game for an 11.30 kick off and after that has finished I am being dropped off at St Marys for the game. At the moment it looks as if I am walking home to Totton after the Saints game! Is anybody else walking home to Totton?

I thought my mate said the game was off, he plays for totton and got told the other day it was highly unlikely to be on.
