Genuine Memorabilia?

It's not the montage that's the issue, the style of badge appears to be mass-produced and is surely only 40-50 years old at absolute most - that appears to be a plastic coating for a start.

Bakelite was only used for consumer goods from the 1920s and that was the first true plastic, so there's sod all chance it's 100 years old.

They probably made it last week and left it outside in the snow to rust it.

What and risk that perfect feedback!

All those players look a little retarded. The guy at the top in the middle looks like he's just escaped from the zoo and the guy on the right has massive ears.

Also, why do the people at the bottom seem to look smaller. The perspective is all wrong which should surely knock about2o quid off the asking price. It's probably worth mailing the guy and saying you're willing to pay £130 but not a penny more.

COYB&W though.

Tbf he does not say that the badge dates from 1908 and it may be varnished. It is v. strange that the reverse is identical to the Winnipeg badge. There are no questions as to proof of provenance on the page. I doubt it will sell and it will be interesting to see if it is re-listed and at what price.

It looks like someone has taken an old photo (or copy thereof) covered it in plastic film and attached it to a 33mm badge die. Look at the reverse; it's identical to the badges produced by do-it-yourself badge machines popular in the 70s onwards.

I remember designing and making badges whilst at uni in the early 70s which looked identical.

email response to a question i sent him;

Hello , Thank You for interest. That Southampton FC together with other badges were obtained from realatives of one scandinavian Football player 1906-1916. There was a note that badge came from Southampton FC tour scandinavian countries in 1910. I don't selling reproduction / not original items , sorry. With Best Wishes , Darius

Saints were at least touring then, they were in Argentina in 1905.

says these 'celluloid covered badges were around in victorian times, but nothing on the clasp type which looks modern to me... Also 100 year old celluloid would be unstable and would have become quite oxidised by now... not quite right but am no expert

Probably genuine

The badge was obtained from family of one scandinavian football player.

There was a short

note SOUTHAMPTON FC SKANDINAVISK RUNT 1910 -Southampton

FC Scandinavian tour 1910.

GENUINE !! I am not expert in British badges

, but seeing the rest badges ( badges from period 1906-1916 ) which came

together , I have no doubt about Southampton FC badge -ORIGINALITY.

You sound like a collector - is this badge worth that much to start the bidding at £150?

Well seeing as the oldest badges in my collection of 150 uniques are late 1960s and worth £40/50 on ebay id say IF this was genuine (which i now think it might be) it is well worth that sort of money (just wish i could justify it to Mrs Le Taxi in this climate!)

This is by far the oldest Saints badge i've seen and probably ever will, in fact i would say it could be the Holy Grail of Saints badges.

Yeah, mine are roughly the same date too (50s-60s, I think), but I can't afford to cough £150 on a badge, no matter how old. At least we know there's something out there from waaaay back. I'll just cut and paste the piccy - much cheaper!!

Out of interest, could you post a pic of your earliest badges so that I can see what I've got. I've picked mine up along the way and never spent much over £5-£10 for them. I've got about 30.

His ratings are really good so I would have thought OK

If you pay by Paypal you are covered

Don't trust Paypal to be 100% in refunding if goods are fraudulent. I bought some Callaway woods a while ago which proved fake and didn't get anything back from Paypal as it was over 12 months since the purchase.

If you think it's a bit dodgy..... it probably is!
