paulwantsapint Posted 22 January, 2010 Share Posted 22 January, 2010 Why are all modern transfers undisclosed fees? If we sign a player for 250k tell us When we get rid of for 2.5m tell us I know that all transfers start at low price & rise due to clauses but I want to see start price & be told what could rise to How great is it when the club get either RL for big money or LB for little money
Matthew Le God Posted 22 January, 2010 Share Posted 22 January, 2010 Because they don't want other clubs to know how much we have or haven't got. Makes good business sense so Saints don't get ripped off in future deals.
stevegrant Posted 22 January, 2010 Share Posted 22 January, 2010 I think the main reason is so it doesn't alert other clubs to how much is being spent/recouped. Every competitive advantage that a club can get - i.e. not letting other clubs know how much money they've got and/or how much they've spent - will be taken these days. Not ideal, but unless the FA/Football League impose rules forcing clubs to disclose transfer payments, I can't see it changing.

Tbh Steve, this is another reason why football is in such a huge financial mess! If the game had more transparency, it wouldn't operate with such cloak & dagger methods
ART Posted 22 January, 2010 Share Posted 22 January, 2010 Surely it's more to do with the payment being spread over more than one season or involving, as with Barnard, the signing of another player. Conditions attached to the deal don't make the disclosure of the amount as simple as a straightforward money exchange.

This is business and as previously stated a private business now. Anyway believing that you know the price just clouds ones judgment of player/manager performance. Marsdinho Posted 22 January, 2010 Share Posted 22 January, 2010 Exactly! My thoughts too! Or the other way around.. It could be that the club receiving the cash don't want other clubs knowing how much have just got. "So Mr Chairman, you have just received X million for a defender, our defender is worth twice as much as that"

Every Saints transfer under Liebherr/Cortese has been done this way. As a private company ML/NC do not have to disclose any such information. It is none of our business. Might as well as for the balance of MLs current account. Mancsaint

david in sweden Posted 23 January, 2010 Share Posted 23 January, 2010 I understand the fee was closer to 1.2m Looked solid against Wimbledon so could be money well spent this type of " fee" is only that sum that passes between clubs and IMHO good for clubs NOT have to reveal their " transfer kitty ", However, as someone mentioned.. the "greater evil" is when it includes agents fees, " removal costs "...how much does a removal van cost to hire ...? and the dreaded loyalty bonuses..(large sums agreed) before the fellow has even kicked a ball for the club. PLUS the salary level that can be very high-even if the fee is low. You still have the bill to pay at the end of the year.
