NickG Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 (edited) Nick you should do one of your "last xxx games" threads all games played 25 won 18 drawn 4 lost 3 league Played 17 Won 10 Drawn 4 Lost 3 points 34 Exactly 2 points per game. If we had Pardew and Markus in place earlier I think it is very reasonable to suggest that form shown over the last 4 months would have started at the beginning of the season. League Table could easily have been Norwich played 28 60 points Leeds played 26 57 points Charlton played 27 54 points Saints played 26 52 points apologies if not spot on but tired! Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 (edited) Nick this is just a wind up and pretty useless, you can't prove that our form would have started like that at the start of the season and tbh it means sh*t, as it didn't From our last 6 games we have recieved an average of 1.33 points per game. If i then do some rather ghey mathematics and come up with a calculation of that form over a season we get 61 points, that would leave us 13th from last years results. So you see it is pretty much where you apply your maths, which makes this thread pretty redundant. The team we have now should be performing better, end off Edited 27 January, 2010 by Smirking_Saint

If we miss playoffs this season it is a major disapointment, If we miss automatic next season with the money spent now, norwich, charlton and leeds probably out of the equation and as most of you lot keep saying 'a settled team' it will be catastrophic. If we only make the playoffs and fail in promotion it will be a f*cking disgrace.

What an achivement that would be! To take a club from absoulte ruin, a club that lacked direction, were rock bottom, where the playing squad was nothing short of dire and to turn it round in 10 short months would be sensational in my eyes! Something extremely exciting is happening at our football club, I believe we're on the verge of a fantastic era! Money wont buy success that shrewd management will and I'm of the belief that for the first time in years we have the right people in the right posistions. No one expected us to get promoted this season, so I dont know why people are getting disapointed. This is a very lengthy period so shows where a team is at, without blips in form. The start of the season was very poor for several reasons. Once Pardew steadied the ship in October with his signings, having a back room staff and getting rid of the losing mentality form has been pretty consistent. I believe this form gives a very good reflection as to where we are. 2 points per game for such a lengthy period is pretty good form hope its clear - form being record over recent months, this is not a full season league table. Know some struggle;)

Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 But it is all carp again Nick, just so you know mate, as i know some people don't quite get it. Our form for the WHOLE of this season equates to 1.54 points a game, not 2 and not any other number that gives your arguement more credance than it deserves. How can you give a statement like yours without using actual facts ?? We don't know how we would have started the season under any other circumstance than the one we did, it could have been worse. Fact is, your arguement is not based in reality and lacks credance, anyone can pluck useful data and use it to their advantage, as you did and as i did earlier. Fact is, over THIS season we have an average pts per game of 1.54, and fact is that just isn't good enough. Now, HTH, i know some struggle

Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 (edited) But how many losses? 3 out of 25 not to shabby is it? 6 out of 26, too many draws. I can agree to that though, we are not losing too many games which is a good thing, we just need to turn that corner, get a cutting edge back. People say that playoffs were a pipe dream but i don't agree, the players purchased who came in and did the business from the off should have seen us competing by now, but we haven't. I can see the arguement that people are putting forward in that this was perhaps a consolidation year, i just can't see how many wrote off the playoffs. Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 50% is ok isn't it? Not for a squad of our quality compared to the league we are in. Would that be ok for any of Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc in the premiership ?? Or even within context would it be ok for Leeds, Norwich or Charlton ?? If it happened to them it would be a widespread opinion on here that they are underperforming, so why can people blindly not accept that we are ? JustMike Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 the dip in form hasnt really been helped by the upset caused by the weather, an injury or 2 and playing new players all at the same time (remember how this effected us at the start of the season?) In reality, yes we should be winning more but we are 1 game away from wembley, have an epic 5th round fa cup tie to look forward to and 20 league games too, better than we all could have hoped for at the end of last season. John Smith Posted 7 February, 2010 Share Posted 7 February, 2010 Man City, spent about 100million, lost to Hull. Form, pretty average. Take off 10 points, puts them on 31 and mid table. Take half their squad away from the beginning of the season and give them the sam start we had, they'd be down in the relegation battle. Money only buys you players, it does NOT buy you points.
