If we win the JPT...

Will it buy AP another season in charge.

The way I understand it AP is on a one year contract. Some recent devolpments suggest that our chairmen is unhappy with APs progress while some fans on here have also stated they are unhappy with the way AP is doing things and the way the team is playing.

At the start of the season the chairman stated he wanted silverware, recently however he has said the league is more important than the cups many on here seem to agree that the league should come first.

So the question is if (and we may not) we win the JPT but fail to reach the playoffs do we extended APs contract? On the one hand AP will have delivered our first silverware since 76 on the other he will have failed to achieve NC stated main aim. what are peoples opinion does the JPT buy AP the right to another season in charge?

For me personally I think it would be pretty shoddy to show someone the door if they actually win the club our first silverware for 34 years even if cup wins are not the clubs stated first priority. Thoughts.

at the end of the day..the JPT is not even a close second to promotion out of this league

now wer are in the JPT final..yes it will be great to win it...but I would quite happily sacrifice being knocked out of the JPT in round 2 this season for a shot at the playoffs..

the league and PROMOTION is right (imo) no.1 in the clubs targets...

and be honest..the league results lately have been average

Yes it'll be a good day out and yes, I'll happily buy my ticket for it, but I think it's a bit desperate to claim it as major silverware.

If we win, I certainly wont be bragging to people about it.

I know things are on the up these days, but for a club like ours, playing in the JPT is a bit embarrasing really.

Personally I'd be happy to brag about, when you think most clubs only have three or four trophies to play for a year winning any of them should be a cause for celebration. I'm not embarrased becuase we're in league one on merit (or lack of). When I'm old I'll bore my grand children with stories of the JPT and league one and I'll be proud to have been here.

Agreed, do people think we should be winning the fecking Champion's League??? Bonkers. This is one of four trophies our club could possibly win this year and are only out of one so far.

Of course I don't think we should be winning the Champs League, but the JPT is the sort of tournament that we were probably taking the **** out of before we got to this level.

Like I said, I'll enjoy the day out and all, but I wont exactly be buying a DVD of the day and souveneir t-shirt!

I dont get why people think our league form has been average. Since the beginning of December we have won every game at home. Our away games have been at tough places. Leeds and Colcheter have two of the best home records in the country and we narrowly lost at both, neither of which is a disaster, we drew away at Millwall & Brentford and probably should have beaten both, they have only lost at home once and twice respectively. Leeds and Norwich, the two best teams in the league bot lost at Millwall and Norwich lost at Brentford whilst Leeds drew. Exeter, again we should have won but they recently beat Leeds at home. So in short we have had 5 really tough away games and only lost once and did better at Millwall, Brentford & Exeter than the top two have. So our results at these places have been better overall than the top two sides in the division. Once Norwich is out of the way next week we have a run in of winnable games with 3 of the top 6 to come to SMS. By the end of March we could be within striking distance of the play offs. Since December in the league we have played 10 W5 D3 L2- a total of 18 points, whilst not great considering our away games have been at some of the toughest places i actually think its a reasonable return.

Thank the Lord. Sanity. There is no reason we will not make the play-offs from here.

I too don't see the big panic about our league form. Won our last 4 home games, nothing wrong there. Lost by one goal at Leeds and Colchester, better than many can say. Drew at Millwall, Brentford and Exeter... they're all points. I'd have thought most teams outside the top 2 or 3 in each league, would be happy to bring points home from away trips.

It's form. Form is temporary. I don't get why this concept is so incomprehensible to some people. Every team has spells of crap performances and crap results. Even Leeds went and lost at Exeter and at home to Carlisle.

JPT or not, it would be stupid not to give Pardew a stab at a proper season, starting on 0 points and with his own squad from the start. If he can't get them winning most games next season, then no doubt he'll be gone, but that would be more understandable. It's not as if we're losing regularly in this bad run. We're just taking too long to form a consistently effective team from a good squad.

Thats my feeling. I wondered if winning the JPT would strengthen or weaken APs standing among the fanbase and with the chairmen though, or if it's seen as irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Its madness to even consider sacking AP.

Yes, recent performances in the League have been average. Not great. Not awful. Just average.

If people were facing the sack in Britain for an average six or eight weeks on their main area of work, we'd have total chaos.

What's even madder than any suggestion AP should be sacked or placed under review is the idea that winning or losing the JPT final is decisive. In terms of AP's position, its irrelevant.

Im still buzzing from Tuesday's win. Can't wait for March 28th. Hope and think that I'll see Saints win some silverware for the first time in my 29 years of supporting them (the Ted Bates trophy doesnt count! This just about does!).

But the idea that this has anything to do with the manager's position is totally unhinged.

It would be ridiculous to sack the guy this season.

He has not only had to rebuild the team but also the club! It's been a massive job and we are starting to reap the benefits. Sooner or later the team will really gel and in the meantime we are still getting good results and have the chance of winning silverware. He has done a pretty good job so far.......sure I'd like to see us wining every match but that isn't going to happen.......just yet! ;-)

I can't agree. Surely part of a managers job is to win silverware for his club? Managers get sacked all the time for not winning stuff, so how can winning something not effect his standing with the chairman and fans? One of the chairmans stated aims at the start of the season was to win something for the trophy cabinet, so if AP provides that for NC surely it must work in his favour with regards to his job.

Why not sack him now, and bring back Lowe at the same time! do we learn nothing. At the start of this season you were offered a day out at wembley a possible playoff place and the 5th round of the fa cup how many would have taken it?

If the JPT is not worth bragging about it's quite simple don't go, and let someone who's happy to be there go.
