Quite why anybody would get the bingo bus for a game at Wembley is beyond me anyway.

Really ?

Unless you live in or near London then the coach is the only sensible way to go surely . The trains involve the usual weekend line disruption and enduring our 'cattle wagon' tube service , if you want to drive then my old car at least is going to burn way more than £25 worth of gas to get there and back even before you add in Wembley parking costs (£20) on top .

It's gonna take about an hour and a half to get away from the Wembley car park, so over 2 hours to get out of London. No thanks. I'll park in Richmond and get the tube in.

Ditto, when I go to gigs in central london I park at a pub opposite wimbledon tube station and it makes the day much more stress free. The tube is great so no complaints. Dunno what to do about this game though!

My guess is that Wembley charge them an excessive fee to park the coaches. Quite why anybody would get the bingo bus for a game at Wembley is beyond me anyway.

Cost of travel to Wycombe match (69 miles) is £14. Wembley is 78 miles. Can't see how they can justify £11 more for the sake of another 9 miles. It's going to cost £75 for me and my two boys before we buy tickets. Not doing much to encourage families when a lot of people will be struggling to find the money to go anyway. By the way, we do all have season tickets, so I'm not a one match a season person complaining.

Direct coach to Wembley I got quoted was £700 for 53 seater.

It does say proudly on the Saints Charter that they operate coaches at cost price, which even if they got the same deal as me, would be £13 a head... take into account a discount of about 20% for group booking and the cost price to the club is more closer to about £10 a head.

lol... impressive markup skills for a non-profit branch of SFC... :-)

Just another train of thought.

We will have a contract for a fixed amount of coaches during a season which allows us to get a good all year long deal, probably at less than you guys are booking individual coaches for.

How many coaches do our usual Travel Club OWN?

How many are they (or the club) having to bring in on sub-contract for the day?

How many "organisers", stewards or bingo callers have to be brought in for the day to meet "H&S requirements for football coaches?

Once we get the answers to that we can make some valid snipes about profiteering.

My guess is that they are having to pay more than usual for the sub-contractors who have seen a pay day

Like I said, little old me was quoted on average £700 by a number of companies. £13 a head. The safety people on there are generally stewards who don't get paid, just do it for a free ticket.

There is not a hope in hell they cost double what little old me is paying for one.

The tube at Wembley is horrendously busy - after games I have been there we have had to wait an hour to even get on a tube after the game. Just a warning.. You can park easily around the ground between £10-£15 a car.

I've been to England qualifying games and managed to get away within 40 minutes, leaving just after full time.

The tube station's only bad if the ground's full, and England games see thousands of people leaving in the last 5-10 minutes of the game to avoid the queues.

For a cup final, where one set of fans will clearly leave pretty quickly when they've lost while the other will hang around celebrating, it actually works out very well.

I went to the League Two playoff final (Bristol Rovers v Shrewsbury) a couple of years ago (attendance of 60k or so), hung around to see the Rovers celebrations after the game and still got on the tube without much of a wait.

Exactly, it actually works quite well when you have two opposing teams as whoever loses leaves straight away and in the main have cleared off by the time the winning team have finished celebrating and have started to head off. Plus there are a fair few pubs around Wembley. Also, there is Wembley Park, Wembley Stadium and Wembley Central stations, so more than one option. Wembley is nowhere near as bad as its made out for public transport, just the early kick off and poor south west trains service that doesn't help on the 28th.

And the majority of the Carlisle fans will probably be on a coach as it would be a mar of a journey for them to train it. Hopefully lots of Saints fans will do the same leaving the tube free for us that live nearer to Wembley. I will get the train down to West Hampstead and Jubilee line up to Wembley - assuming its running!

Assumption being the mother of all ****-ups, of course ;)

Jubilee line's often part-closed at weekends for engineering work, hopefully they haven't got any planned that weekend! Metropolitan line is another option and is actually a lot quicker from Finchley Road onwards, but it's really ****ty trains

I had a look on the TfL site and it seems it shut Saturday 27th only - open on the 28th. Met line seems to be running that day too so thats an option but it means messing about changing tubes in London.

Alternative for me is train from Leighton Buzzard, change at Harrow and Wealdstone - just got to persuade the Mrs to drop me in LB.

The match tickets were no great shock, but the £25 coach fare is.

My friend at work emailed Dave Luker complaining about it and was told (straight away) that the cost was due to Wembley parking charges, stewarding and coach operator charges.

When, like me,you have to pay for 4 of everything it gets very expensive.

I shall be looking at driving up now....what time to leave?

There is engineering work on the tube lines that day, not sure which ones though. It told me that when I looked up the train prices on the national rail website.

Anyone who wants to make a very quick buck... have a word round the local coach companies.... plenty still have 53 seaters left, going at about £700 or £900 if you want to get into London early and leave London late.

Charge £20 a piece and make yourself at least £150 for your troubles, and still £5 cheaper than the bingo bus.

No brainer.

Can't recall anyone having a problem with Clive Foley's football excursions, maybe it's down to who is organising it? Good luck Stu, I just hope none of your 'mates' decides to make a mess on the journey, it's not cheap replacing those windows and cleaning sick from the upholstery mate. And I am assuming that you'll be encouraging them to bring their own beer?

How much deposit have they asked for out of interest?

No but you're charging them more than you need to.

Not really.

The per head cost was £17, if you have any experience of sorting awaydays you will know that it's always best rounded up to the nearest 5 or 10, otherwise it ends up with "here's £15 and i will buy you a pint" or something.

What have I done with the extra money?

Got the local boozer to get up and make up 50 bacon rolls ready for departure in the morning.

That's right. I'm a c*nt.

Haha, calm down! Was hardly calling you a c*nt was I? I'm sure they'll love their bacon rolls.

Speaking of the Travel Club, are they really expecting EVERYONE west of Hook to get to St Marys to get on the coaches?

This would then require people to drive down and park around the stadium and local area?

No advertised pick-up points at Eastleigh (I'm sure they could run a direct service and fill 2/3 coaches up) or Winchester (Eastleigh's could cover)?
