bjk Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 Which would you prefer. I dont think we'll quite make it this season so i hope we can keep this squad together and go up as champions next season. That would be better would'nt it.
SaintNeil90 Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 Play-offs. The sooner we go up the more likely players will be willing to stay and the better players we will be able to attract.
Matthew Le God Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 This is a no brainer. You ask which would you prefer, so of course everyone should say play offs this season. Please explain why you would rather Saints not be promoted this season?

SAR Boy Saint Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 Yes, I'd love to make the play offs and go up this season, but then next year would be another one looking to consolidate, quite a few losses and I would imagine a mid table finish. However, if we stayed in L1 we should expect a carnival season, with high expectations of winning most games. OK, it's not ideal, but think of how you feel at the moment, and imagine feeling like that for an entire season? It wouldn't be the end of the world!! Smirking_Saint Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 If we can we should go all guns blazing for the playoffs. That was the easiest decision i had to make today.
Dig Dig Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 there is a difference between making the playoffs and winning them. Do you mean would we prefer promotion via the playoffs this season for via winning the league next year? I'd prefer the former

Are Leicester looking like mid table team in the Championship after promotion from League One? 5th place after 33 games. Would Saints spend more than Leicester in the summer if promoted? Based on spending so far I'd say that is very likely If we used your logic of if Saints went up they'd have to consolidate in 2010/11 season in the Championship then I assume you mean go for promotion in 2011/12. If Saints go up next season instead then it delays the promotion push to the Championship for a year.

Saint Lindford Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 Making the play-off is one thing, you then have to win 2 more games to win promotion. Yes it would be nice to do it but the end of the world if we did not. It was always going to be hard to do it given the -10 and the slow start due to all the uncertainty through pre-season. If we can get close to the play-offs, with a Wembley appearance as well in the JPT it will have been a good season. We are under no pressure to sell anyone, team spirit is good so next season is the one for promotion. The 5-year plan was done on promotion next season anyway, the team will be under pressure to achieve this but it should be attainable.

Toomer Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 the sooner we get up, the better. getting into the playoffs and then winning them this year, would be like winning the bloody league anyway! Agree, but if someone said to you at the start of the season that we would finish just outside the play offs, get through to the 5th round of the FA cup and a trip to Wembley. IMHO most of us would have ripped their arm off for that if we think of the position we were in then.
Arizona Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 I would say anyone who doesn't want to go up this season is bananas. It may be highly unlikely, but we've got to WANT it if nothing else. Next season needn't be a 'consolidation' year either. Look at Leicester. We have a lot of quality in our strongest 11. If we can get rid of all the crap that isn't in the team and bring in more quality, a playoff spot in our first season back up wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility. Couldn't give a f**k about the League 1 Championship TBH. Promotion is all that matters.

Matthew Le God Posted 3 March, 2010 Share Posted 3 March, 2010 (edited) Three more games! Nope, it is possible to win 1 or 2 games in the playoffs and go up. Play off semi is two legged and you could lose or draw one of the legs and win the other. Could even draw both games in the semi and win on penalties. Thus only winning the final. We'll be competitive in the divisions we are in for as long as Markus and Co are part of this club.
