Pilchards Posted 13 June, 2010 Share Posted 13 June, 2010 Its clear to everyone we are the favorites but so was Leeds. If i'm right they came close in the minus points year but the two years after that they failed to win promotion after starting on NIL. Where did they go wrong and what will be our downfall if we fail too?
It's There Posted 13 June, 2010 Share Posted 13 June, 2010 We are Saints, not Leeds...therefore we will do it this coming season in style !! Championship here we come!
Colinjb Posted 13 June, 2010 Share Posted 13 June, 2010 The trick is to not get arrogant or take anything for granted. I fear we may fall foul of that.
Saints foreva Posted 13 June, 2010 Share Posted 13 June, 2010 The trick is to not get arrogant or take anything for granted. I fear we may fall foul of that. I think we already have our fair share of idiots like this.
Saint_clark Posted 13 June, 2010 Share Posted 13 June, 2010 By winning more games than anybody else in the league.
sadoldgit Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 Everything has to be right, including the attitude. It doesn't really matter what the bookies think once the whistle blows and it won't be easy for us as it hasn't been easy for Leeds.
trousers Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 I'd rather not read comments like this on the OS, either from fans or from the club. This one is from a fan at the shirt launch: "I know that this will be the kit that we win League One in this season and it's going to look great seeing all the fans wearing it for the first game of the season. It's statements like that which have a habit of coming back to haunt people....
Under Weststand Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 Attitude will be vital, we have to be able to grind out results on cabbage patch pitches, & the team will need to have the right mental attitude to the likes of Rochdale at home as when going to Sheff Wed away. Respect every single team, week in week out, & we will need to show some guile & patience especially at home. Do all that & the skill of the team should then shine through. 100%Red&White Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 We're clear favourites with the bookies, most managers and fans in this league - so they'll all be out and trying a little bit harder to p*ss on our party. Respect everyone, fear no-one.

If i'm right they came close in the minus points year but the two years after that they failed to win promotion after starting on NIL. Alanh Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 It's the classic football cliche - take it one game at a time. One of the things that Leeds did which we could avoid is they changed managers a fair bit and only settled on Grayson towards the end of last season. Obviously if AP screws up then we'll need to replace him but I think that is likely to lead to a Leeds type of scenario.
Leslie Charteris Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 I don't think AP will let this happen. If the players give their all and we still get beaten, then fair enough. He knows his job is on the line and I think he will get rid of anyone who risks our place in the playoffs, at least.
Appy Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 Because we don't have arrogant players like Beckford and an arrogant manager like Grayson.
West End Saint Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 I think AP will have the team right he has mentioned a few times about instilling a winning attitude and I think we have that now. We have got the team/squad to win the league we are everyones favorites to win the league if we can keep all our players and make a couple of decent signings we should do it. There can be no excuses for not getting promotion next season I just cant see us getting complacent we know what this league is about if our attitude is right we have the talent to win it. I cant wait for the season to start I have never felt so positive about our chances everything is in place lets have it
Pedro Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 I am quietly confident and am sure AP will be successful. Will be happier when we see who comes in and hopefully none of our best players leaving. Haven't seen any quotes that Lallana and RL being tracked by clubs in higher divisions. John B Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 Well they have just got promoted after being favourites I think they may have lost in the Playoffs before that
Saintandy666 Posted 14 June, 2010 Share Posted 14 June, 2010 By keeping level headed and not just being like 'we will walk this league', because it isn't guaranteed. We need to take each game at a time and not have our eyes too focused on promotion before we even(hopefully) get there. In tennis, if you don't look at the ball and just look where you want it to go, it nearly always goes out. This is very similar to them in my opinion, and probably why Leeds failed.
