Get along and support them

I urge anyone who hasn't seen the Saints play under Nigel Adkins to get along to the next away or home game. It was a breath of fresh air yesterday to see them passing and moving off the ball with such ease.I hated the hit and hope hoof ball up to Lambert under Pardew. Kelvin passes to the centre backs and before you know it we are in the oppositions last third and creating chance after chance.

With Gully we now have another player in the team like Lallana who can open up a team who put every player behind the ball. There is no longer a need for plan B because teams in this league will not be able to cope with our new style of play regardless of who they are.

I know people will say it was only Tranmere yesterday but on another day with chances taken it would have been 5 or 6 nil.Somebody is in for a hiding sooner or later and I fully expect us to beat Huddersfield away next week.

We will have 28,000 to 32,000 crowds at St Marys soon when we go top and the good times will have returned. COYRs

There is always the need for a Plan B, trouble is most managers don't have one unless they can afford a very, very expensive bench.

It is good to see the wins rolling in at last and clean sheets but whilst you slag off Pardew you seem to forget his team scored an awful lot of goals so I would suggest that he did something right.

As for the good times, we have a long long way to go yet.

What a load of rubbish? Did Adkins have a very, very expensive bench at S****horpe?

Well done sadoldgit... 3 post and you have ruined this thread. You either have a serious fetish for AP, have yet to see us play under NA or you are the total invalid I have previously thought you may be.

Yes, Pardews team scored alot of goals... but that doesn't detract from the fact that I actually couldn't stand watching 90% of the football we played, or how no matter how dreadfully wrong our gameplan was going it wouldn't change, for what appeared to be for no other reason than that AP didn't actually know how too.

You need to wake up and smell the coffee, AP has gone and we now have a manager who is giving 99.9% of us on the terraces puffy on's in our pants. Feel free to f*ck off if you dont like it.

Spain and Barca have both done alright for themselves without a plan B. Infact Barcelona have just sold their extermely expensive and useless plan B.

This whole plan B ******** was ridiculous as is the cheap dig about Pardew in the OP, I'm sure the OP hated the football on show at Walsall, Huddersfield and Bristol Rovers games to name just three...

Is there REALLY any need to be abusive to SOG? He's entitled to his opinion as you are and to call him an invalid and suggest he's ruined the thread is completely wrong. This is why this forum has gone downhill - hope you're proud of yourself.

I agree with the OP - NA is starting to show us what he's about and I like it a lot. Was initially skeptical, but I am won over now and once again enjoying my football.

That's because AP got the best out of Lambert, problem was we became too reliant on RL and Pardew failed to address it.

Pardew did ok here but at the end of the day he didn't see eye to eye with the chairman and he is gone. Let's move on.

Forget the AP "goals" issue for a moment.

Under Burley AND AP, we made the pitch narrow and tried to pass or hoof our way through the middle.

As has been shown in the past two games, the concept of widening the pitch is new to us and has provoked strong reactions because it IS different and it has shown us a different way of playing.

The plan A and B issue is irrelevant, there will be occassions where we will give NA stick because the wide route will not be working due to conditions or tactics from opposition, switching styles then will be important. We complained because under Burley & AP we never switched FROM being narrow.

So it is not cut and dried, we may still complain about this style.

Also, those that keep dragging up the "goals" argument are also being stupid. We are 3 games into a run of improved performances after a period where our two best goal scorers have been injured and/or off form. In the same way that being OTT about "The new tactics" may be premature, so is the rubbish that AP was better as we scored more.

Both will happen.

The key thing though as Gaffer points out - feck me people we FINALLY have a team playing attractive football again and winning for the first time in (according to your opinion) weeks or years, so get up off your ass and get down to watch them while you can. I think we are finally making the big step from "Recovering" to "Really Moving Forward" Long way to go yet though

Couldn't stand watching 9 out of 10 games last season?

We changed our game plan plenty of times under Pardew. Infact some of our best football and result where when we'd play 4-5-1 for an hour and then bring on Connolly and Antonio to change shape.

I don't see why people are so quick to dismiss the good work Pardew done for us last season. People need to remember the position we where in before he took over. -10, no squad etc

Yes. Fed up with hearing negative comments and continually going back to Pardew.

He has ruined the thread. This is evident with this conversation we are having. Instead of talking positively about how much better Saints are now and if you havn't seen them then you really should because 99.9% of people there yesterday were blown away... we are talking negative boll*cks.

Really? Got nothing to do with the countless negative people on here who have to, just HAVE TO find SOMETHING to f*****g moan about!??

I think you will find that not only does NA have a Plan B, but he also has a Plan C. Extract of his quotes before the game:

"The lads have worked very hard this week. We did some fitness testing with them again in the early part of the week to judge where they are at this moment in time. That is important, and I am a big believer in the sports science side of things, so we have been looking at that. We've also been working on our shape and the potential ways in which to approach Saturday's game with a plan A, a plan B, and a plan C."

What those plans are, who knows, but obvioulsy he expects us to adapt and be able to switch to different styles dependant on the state of play. Plan A is obviously great if it is working, but he has other ideas as well.

Why is everyone assuming Guly will be good now? We were playing a very poor Tranmere side yesterday.

Three tough games coming up now and if we come out of that with 2 defeats and 1 win this forum will go into meltdown. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Tranmeres results so far, suggest they are not the very poor team you suggest!

Yes we played some great stuff but the reality is BOTH goals came from long balls by Butterfield.

There is no right and wrong way to play. You just have to win.

A ball that is hit from one player and is received by another in the same shirt in a good position is a good ball. End of story.

For 20 minutes yesterday we looked like Brazil and scored precisely NO goals.

Let's just see how we get on eh? Yesterday was alright against a team who are just slightly better than dire. Keep playing like that and scoring and we should win the league comfortably. If we don't fire the Chairman. ;)

To call them long balls is bending the facts somewhat. The first was a layoff in the corner by Guly to Puncheon who in trying to beat a defender had the ball knocked sideways, which went to the backing up butterfield about five yards away on the edge of the penalty area who put a nicely weighted cross to the edge of the six yd box for Lambert to score. The second was a nicely chipped ball from the halfway line into the space behind the left back for Guly's run into the space, from there the cross from the byeline for the goal. Neither could remotely be compared with the long ball from the edge of one penalty area to the other. Any time it happened yesterday we lost possession and were counter attacked.
