Of the squad that played that 2 legged final only one player remains at the club, we know 7 others have gone on to clubs above us now, but such a shame that more did not stay. Ironically of the Ipswich squad, I could not find any of those listed on the programme in their current squad!

7 players in teams above us in England, but at least a couple have gone abroad.

Never really understood why Villareal signed Condesso, he's dropped down to the 3rd division in Spain now, playing for UD Logroñés.

Looks like Tim Sparv has done pretty well though, 11 caps for Finland and playing regular foorball for Groningen in the dutch top division.

Best, awful player IMO, funny how Newcastle think he is one of their worst signings and it was his signing which could have or could still cost Hughton his job.

Well, he's clearly a Championship level striker so if that makes him "awful" then fair enough.

Was the game on SKY? I seem to recall watching it.

Was watching Goals on sunday and good to see how Matt Mills has developed. He's now Reading's captain.

Was gutted he, and Dexter both left for peanuts.

Mills was one of the departures that annoyed me the most as I could see he would turn out to be quality.

It's frustrating to see how ex-players do for other clubs. Garry Monk is the other centre back that springs to mind. Also, watching the highlights show, it's annoying to see how Antonio is doing for Reading. I know he's history to us now, but I'd still love to see him back one day.

Agree mate. Players like Monk & Brian Howard had to drop down a level though in-order to get enough games to build themselves up. We were in the prem at the time when they left, I think.

Mills & Blackstock were just annoying because we were in decline when they left.

Did we win?

No but we deserved to if I remember rightly.

Remember watching it feeling gutted coz we had been relegated from the Prem after 27 years a few days earlier. Was kidding myself that winning the yoof cup would somehow make me feel better.

So, looking at that bunch we can sort of understand why Rupert Lowe put so much faith in the youth experiment. Maybe in time it would have paid dividends? Mybe if we'd had the luxury of time added to Prost's ability to develop at that level we might have kept the conveyor belt running?
