beatlesaint Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 OXO is off then. Difference between now and then is that now we have money and dont need to be tempted to sell to the big boys. Chamberlain signed a three year deal, his old man has seen and done it all and will advise him accordingly I am sure. I wouldnt expect to see him leave for a few years yet. I hope you're right but equally it could be that the difference now (because we don't have to sell) is that we can hold out for a better price and get sell-on clauses that stick. As we know, if a player wants to go, he'll go.
fareham saint phil Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 Spot on Bert, at the time NO CLUB would have resisted the money we were offered, and certainly not as we were a championship club at the time, yes we sold them but got decent money for youngsters, who, could have turned into a turkey, ok if you saw either then you knew there was something about them, but who knows what happens in football, its always good to see ex Saint academy players doing so well. Funny how they had Bale in a wales shirt and not a spuds one!!!!!!!!!
SNSUN Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 If we get promoted this season, I'm confident in keeping our better players, but keeping them a further season would depend on direct promotion to the Premiership. I can't see it happening sadly (promotion to the Premiership at the first attempt I mean), so instead of worrying about losing the quality younger players eventually, I'll just think about how good they are for us now. Dalek2003 Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 If we were still in the Premier league we might have held on to Bale, he has only just started to find the outstanding form that everyone is raving about.
Gemmel Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 I'm not sure even if we are still loaded that that will be enough to keep any rising superstars here. Once the big guns come sniffing, it is very very hard not to sell. Once a player knows there is a chance of the premiership and all that goes with it, loyalty goes out the window. CB Fry Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 that is Lallana off to arsenal then lol (joke) You're forgetting that Morgan Schneiderlin will be signing for Arsenal any day now as he really has actually been an Arsenal player all along and is only at Saints on some complicated loan deal and he is definitely definitely an Arsenal player and always has been probably since birth and I know this because my brothers mate's sisters dad is a cab driver who knows Reuben Agboola's mum. That's why Arsene is bigging us up. Spin back eighteen months and there were plenty on this forum swearing blind the truth of the Morgan-is-really-an-Arsenal-player rumour. SET Posted 6 November, 2010 Share Posted 6 November, 2010 Wenger is spot on If the club could have survived in the PL you'd have a decent side right now as i think Bale and Walcott would have hung around a bit longer, and if they did leave they'd have gone for more money
