So here it is. After 18 races we reach the final one of the year. The title decider. First practice has just finished looking like this

1. Vettel

2. Hamilton

3. Button

4. Webber

5. Kubica

6. Alonso.

McLarens looking competitive at this early stage. Lewis ran wide at the final corner and had he not done so would have been fastest. Long way till Sunday yet though!

Personally I think Webber will win the title, I think the Red Bulls will have too much pace and Webber will lead home a Red Bull 1-2. Ferrari sandbagging no doubt but if the McLarens are looking strong Alonso will find it difficult to finish in the top 2.

If Alonso's engine doesn't blow up, we're in for a cracker this weekend

well, fair play to Vettel really. He has made his fair share of mistakes this year, and a better driver would have sewn up the title well before today with that Red Bull car which was by some distance the best on the grid this year, but he is still very young and exceptionally talented so I think he deserves it.

I hate to admit it, as I find him to be an odious, petulant cry-baby; but I genuinely believe that Alonso has been by far the best driver this year. He comprehensively beat his team-mate, who is no slouch himself, in a car that was perhaps not as fast as the RBRs or the McLarens, and if Ferrari can close the pace gap on the front teams with next year's car then I think he will be the man to beat next season.

Just one random thing that occurred to me, while we were being treated to the German national anthem for the umpteen billionth time in F1, what would happen at the races in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain if an Israeli driver ever won there????

That's an interesting point, as I believe neither Bahrain or the UAE recognise Israel as a state.

Also the UAE has a bit of a history with this, they refused to give a top Israeli tennis player Shahah Peer (sp??) a VISA to play in a major tournament happening over there.

Stewards Enquiry: Alonso's car found to be underweight following toys from pram throwing incident after race.

Has he actually thrown his toys out of the pram?

Or are you still lapping up the narrow minded view of 'The Lewis Hamilton Show' on ITV a few years back?

Didn't you see him shaking his fist at Petrov on the slow-down lap? Seemingly just because he drove well enough to keep Alonso behind him for the whole race.

No I didn't see that, I'd already turned over to the darts on ITV4 as soon as Vettel crossed the line.

If he was being a petulant brat fair enough, and he should be moaning at his team rather than Petrov.

It's just a lot of the time people go on about Alonso being a crybaby, when he hasn't actually been a crybaby. He has his moments and does moan far too much on occasions but he's judged far too much on when McLaren treated him so badly.

He was definitely gesturing to Petrov after the race as if to say he should have got out of the way. He just couldn't get past him so can have no beef with Petrov. Alonso accused Petrov of being extremely aggressive in some of his manoeuvres in his post race interview. The Renault was just too quick around the corners for the Ferrari. He would still have had to pass Rosberg and Kubica if he had managed to get past Petrov. Renaults could do very well next season.

What a season for Red Bull. It was nice to see the last three World Champions up on the podium together at the end ^^ And hearing Vettell recall thinking 'We must be in a bloody good position then' in the post race conference might have been the greatest moment of this season lol.

I honestly thought Schumacher was about to be decapitated when that car drove up towards his cockpit... scariest moment of the season by far.

Watching Alonso today was like watching Hamilton in '07, with the title seemingly in his grasp, and then slipping away because he couldn't pass the midfield...

On to next season, there's a whole winter of the development race to try and keep track of now :D

Don't forget though, he accused McLaren of deliberately sabotaging his title chances because they didn't want him to take the number one status with him when he moved back to Renault. And I'm not so sure they did treat him that badly. They gave him a car that was capable of winning the championship, he was just miffed that Hamilton was too good to just be a number-two driver.

Have to say that it has been one of the best seasons in F1 for many moons. I was really worried about the re-fuellin being taken away as that seemed to be the only way to make things interesting.

To be fair to Alonso he drove the wheels off of the 3rd best car on the grid. Still, funny to see him moaning at Petrov for having the nerve to beat him.

I'm actually delighted with this. Firstly because I've liked Red Bull since they were Stewart, all the way through the disappointing Jaguar years, then Coulthard's stint with the team. Vettel... I'm undecided. I always quite liked him, but he really acted like a tw*t in Turkey. Was really p*ssed at him when he wiped Jenson out at Spa when it was looking so good for McLaren. Overall though, asside from Red Bull's favouritism and the finger, he aint bad for a German. I think I like him more for just not being Alonso/Ferrari. Also good to have variety with a new WDC and Red Bull having their first WDC/WCC too. Been a great season though, after it all looked so bleak in Bahrain. I wish McLaren had been a bit more competitive, but for a neutral I'm sure this year was great.

Good Points

The McLaren partnership - Everyone saying there would be squabbles and Jenson would get his arses handed to him. In reality there seems to be a decent harmony and Jenson has very much kept Lewis honnest. 5 excellent wins to, including the best of the season at Spa.

Kubica - Really taken that Renault places it didn't deserve to be (sorry Ponty). Hopefully he can get a win next year.

No driver dominating - 5 different winners and the Championship leader didn't win a race all season. :o Really amazing stat.

Belgian Grand Prix - It was brilliant.

Michael Schumacher - Arse handed to him by Rosberg, never even got on the podium. Damon Hill giving him a penalty in Monaco was the icing on the cake. :D Up yours you cheating craut w**ker.

Kobayashi - A very solid debut season. People said he was overhyped after last years cameo, but he has put in some decent performance

Bad Points

Ferrari - I don't care what anyone else says, I hate it when they fudge results like they did in Germany.

Massa - A waste of a very good seat. I've never seen why people rate him at all.

Pay drivers - Petrov and Yamamoto just aren't up to it.

Hispania - Been a bit of a farce.

Bahrain, Barcelona et al - Absolute borefests. There were probably a couple of others that boring, but they hardly stuck in my mind.

Red Bull Favouritism - You can see why, being an Austrian company, but Webber seems like a smashing bloke and deserved so much better.

Not for me...Webber going missile in Valencia was far, far worse.

The rollcages in F1 cars are so strong now that, although spectacular, he was never in much danger of being injured in that crash.

We haven't had a fatality for a long time now thank goodness, and it's because there's so much protection around the driver, the biggest risk of injury is due to the fact that the head is exposed.

Being hit in the face by a front wing...

Here's to a better showing in 2011. The first half of 2010 was spent putting the car into positions it didn't deserve to be in and the second half was mostly spent wasting the ooportunities afforded by, what is now, a very good car. Japan really sticks in the throat.
