Heptathlon and Phil Taylor is 15-time world champion.

I know, but according to Wiki Ennis is only the European Champion at the heptathalon. And I don't care how many world titles Phil "The Burger" Taylor has won, darts is a sh*t sport. Infacts it's barely a sport at all and hardly anyone plays it outside of the UK.

She's world champion.

Darts is one of those sports that doesn't require years of physical training, but you must have some serious talent to be able to win over 150 professional tournaments.

We're splitting hairs over Ennis, but never mind.

Taylor I am sure is a fantastically tallented darts player. But to say he is the second most prominent sports person in Britain is a bit of an embarassment for me. People like Haye, W******d and pretty much everyone else nominated, are competing against competitors from around the world.

Hmm, it's a tough one. You have people like Haye who fight two or 3 times a year, and the likes of Andy Murray who compete for a vast number of weeks of the year.

The flip side is that Haye has to train incredibly hard and it's all leading up to 1 fight which could be over in 8 seconds. The pressure boxers must be under in that scenario must be huge. You have to be as strong mentally as physically.

Anyway, apples and oranges. The award hasn't changed my estimations of any of them. Ennis is still fit as, Taylor is still a lardy bloke from Staffordshire.

Just because Darts is not tough physically does not mean it is not a sport. Snooker and Golf are not physically tough either, but they involve a lot of hard work, training and commitment. The talent behind Darts is excellent hand eye co-ordination and pin point accuracy. Just like Phil Taylor could not do the Heptathlon, Jessica Ennis could not play professional darts.

To say it is not a sport is just naive.

It was nice to see Theo but what exactly did he do?? With him turning up on stage and Ces also appearing I wondered if the plan was to ensure that the whole Arsenal squad had bit parts on the night.

.... and another thing. How do you get a Lifetime Achievement Award at the age of 35??

Well Taylor beat an American in the 1st round of the PDC World Championships and he plays an Australian in the 2nd round. Nope not the Australian he beat in the final last year.

Meanwhile I'm just settling to watch the game that is just about to start - John Part vs Per Laursen - a Canadian against a Dane. 20 different countries are being represented (would have been 21 if the Russian had got a VISA) and in the last couple of nights I've been most impressed with the qualifiers from Croatia and Japan.

Oh and in the recent PDC world Cup, Taylor and James Wade representing England were knocked out by 2 players from Spain.

So no your right, he doesn't compete with players from all over the world ;)

I'm sure there are a few odd players from around the world, doesn't mean it's universally popular. I've just had a flick through the BDO World Champions. There are a couple of Dutch blokes, a Kiwi and a moose f**ker. That's pretty much it.

It's a bit like countries such as Jamaica competing in the winter Olympics. Yeah it's nice that they turn up, but we all know the medals are going to be divided up between the Alpines and North Americans.

Anyway, bored with debating the legitimacies of darts now. If you like it, fill yer boots. :)

That's a crucial difference.

I think something like 20% of the last BDO World Championship came from Cheshire. The way the BDO is run is a complete joke.

Anyway back on topic did BWP get some award?

He got the unsung hero award in the end. Got to admit I'm really pleased for him and glad he's finally got at least a bit of the recognition he deserves.

I am sure I saw NC - only a quick pan of the audience about half way through the show, but am sure it was him. If so, well done that man :-)

BTW - loved that David B got a much longer standing ovation than the winner !!!!
