Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Just shown his goals for Barnsley this season on SSN. Feck me. Why didn't he do it for us, and why don't a lot of players like this play well for us?
S-Clarke Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 I think with Hammill it was a case of being here at the wrong time. When he joined it wasn't the best of environments with GB kind of giving up, financial uncertainty and a relegation battle looming. I think if we had him back now in a winning, confident and settled setup we'd see a different player. He's always had the talent, but it wasn't the right environment for him at the time. Smirking_Saint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 For the same reason many play well for us and not others. Teams, formations and tactics. Though, he doesn't look like Hawkings moving through a bog for them.

BotleySaint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 He always looked unfit when he was here. Perhaps he sorted himself out now. Good luck to him!
shurlock Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Was always on the cusp of doing something for us, even in a horrible set-up. Lost count of the number of times he hit the woodwork with 25-yard curlers.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 The reason he didn't succeed here is very simple. The Scottish drunkard played him on the wrong side of the pitch every single game. F*cking Burley.
VectisSaint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Always clear he had the skill, but what do you expect when coached by George Burley. The whole squad looked so unfit after a GB pre-season, and Hamill needed a proper coach. Now he has that he is showing what he can do. Liverpool do not bring up poor players, but poor coaches can make good players look bad, and GB was one of the best at that. Never had a clue once Snodin departed. beatlesaint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 The reason he didn't succeed here is very simple. The Scottish drunkard played him on the wrong side of the pitch every single game. F*cking Burley. Yeah and for one half of a match he played him on the right side of the pitch and he was brilliant, made 3 goals I seem to remember. Of course GB forgot about that and he never played him in his best position again !!!
swannymere Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Because they tend to be young ad on the verge of making the first team squad at whatever team they're at and it goes to their head, they think they've made it and stop giving 100%, a couple of loans around the league and a bit of maturity kicks in and they start trying again. hamster Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 I think that it was his over-zealous use of the step-overs that turned many against him, a common fault in one or two young upstarts trying to be the next Ronaldo. The times he should have given and moved were so frustrating, now he seems to set his sights and go for it not giving defences the time to counter his moves. NickG Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 clearly had potential, but one of the worst players I have seen play for saints (don't mean in ability or future career but actual performance whilst here) continually gave the ball away in our own half
Chez Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 as I recall he played very well indeed when he came on as a sub in the game at Scunny in a battling draw, but for some reason Pearson pretty much dropped him from his plans for a month after that. Never could understand why. He brought him back for a couple of games and we of course survived so hard to argue with Pearsons selections.
