Looking back ....

The last time that we played Man U in the cup a lot was made about the financial boost that we received. A full house, television dosh, full executive boxes, extra shop sales etc were all estimated to have been worth the best part of £1 million to us. Yet less than 3 months later we were in administration.

Did the money from the cup tie delay administration for a month or so? Without it would we have gone into administration earlier - and avoided the 10 point penalty that proved so costly last year?

We now have such a better team than 2 years ago. We are now so much stronger off the pitch. It is good to look back - if only to rejoice that the drk days are (currently) gone.

I remember making this very observation at the time. Everyone was saying that playing Man Utd was a financial lifeline but, as you say, it quite possibly cost us 10 points the following season.

Isn't hindsight wonderful...

Of course without the injection of Manc cash, we might well have avoided the 10 points, but found ourselves with Michael Fialka pulling the strings after his investor decided against pull out. We could even be closing in on the playoff places in League 2 if we were lucky...

It's an intresting point and given how tight things were and what we ultimately went into admin for, then it would be hard to argue that it did ultimately cost us ten points by delaying the inevitable.

Indeed it is and often think how ironic it is that lowes biggest mistake (Coming back and ******* up) ultimately gave us Markus and Nicola.

Had Leon stayed on, i dont think we would have gone into admin. Even to the point of throwing is own money in (Which he did in the end anyway) and we would now be a bareboned squad probably fighting relegation from league 1.

Funny old game

I don't see how Crouch could have avoided admin. Fan or not, he wouldn't throw his families money away keeping us going when we were bleeding money. His would have run out eventually too. We were 100% fcked once Burley had spent a fortune on players with little or no resale value and failed to get us up. Board's fault for giving him that money, but there we go. The lesson? Well, it's either don't take a huge risk, or don't take a huge risk on a pssed Scot with a dodgy transfer record.

To be fair, it was only a penalty shootout away from succeeding.

As much as I would love to blame manure, the money from that tie was not the reason. Saints only missed the 10 point carry-over deadline by a few days. Lowe could have easily put us in administration before that deadline, but (IMHO) didn't purely out of spite: Mark Fry let him know that he (Lowe) was not to be involved in the club after the impending administration. And the b.s. about only putting the parent company into administration to avoid the points penalty for the club was just a way for the ruddy-cheeked one to cover his spiteful tracks. I'm certain he knew damned well that wasn't going to work.

It's at times like this that I yearn for a good old fashioned takeover thread....

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1346375/The-Streets-Of-Monaco-hyper-yacht-extravagant-built.html

For the super-rich it would combine the delights of Monaco with untrammelled access to the ports of the world - as well as bragging rights as to owning the world's most expensive personal yacht.

British designers have produced plans for a floating replica of the principality named Streets Of Monaco which features scaled-down versions of its famous landmarks including the Monte Carlo racetrack.

The 500ft-long boat - expected to cost up to £700million - also boasts miniatures of the famed Monte Carlo Casino, Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse, the Loews Hotel as well as swimming pools and tennis courts.

Thing is the FA cup game profit is probably actually lower than a standard league game with 24K - why? Simple FA cup gate is split after the costs are taken into account - so even 32000 at £30 = £960,000

Take off approx 70 k for police, steards and general running costs = £890,000

FA take 20% leaves £712,000 which is divided 50:50 with the away team so of a near million gate we would get to keep about £356,000 - NOt sure what teh TV revenue is but cant be more than £300,000 at this stage of the comp - anyone know how this is divvied up?

So would have made nowhere near a mil
