sotonian Posted 20 January, 2011 Share Posted 20 January, 2011 fantastic last season, ok this season, would he be good enough in the championship next season for us, i'm really not sure
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 20 January, 2011 Share Posted 20 January, 2011 Difficult one. Still has the same ability; if he gets form and fitness together he can still be just as good as last year. I wonder if Liverpool fans are asking the same of Fernando Torres who, although operating at a vastly superior level, is in a similar position. S-Clarke Posted 20 January, 2011 Share Posted 20 January, 2011 Recent weeks have seen Lambert start to return to the figure we remember so fondly from last year. I predict he'll have a storming 2nd half of the season now he's over his fitness and injury problems. As Ivan says above, all strikers have patches similar to Lambo. Drogba/Torres/Rooney are good examples of good players suffering due to injury/confidence/fitness etc. But as they say, class is permanent and he's still a very very good player at this level and more than capable of playing a level up. Mustapha Fag Posted 20 January, 2011 Share Posted 20 January, 2011 so just as he gets his fitness back we start to question if hes any good? crazy, even when hes not scoring hes creating more so the goals are being spread around, theres so much more on offer than just goals
Colinjb Posted 20 January, 2011 Share Posted 20 January, 2011 If Joseph Mills, Simon Gillet and Bart are good enough for the Championship, Rickie Lambert at 80% tilt will be good enough.
Dig Dig Posted 20 January, 2011 Share Posted 20 January, 2011 Name one striker who has never gone through a slump in form in their career? He's had niggling injuries to overcome and just needed time to get fitness and confidence back. We are very lucky to have Rickie Lambert, his technique and vision is not something we have had in the side for a long time
Jimmy_D Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I think he's peaked because last season was something special. Something that probably won't be matched by anyone for a long time to come in this league. He's still capable of being by far the best striker in this league though, even without hitting those dizzy heights again.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Individual perofrmance is one thing, but how a player affects team performance is even more important. Rickie has changed this season into a more rounded player and as such he is better equipped to be a championship player than ever.
rooney Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 His first touches and lay off to other players are excellent this year. He makes loads of goals which is just as important as scoring. Well played Rickie, keep it up.
Viking Warrior Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Lets crucify another player thread alert Why do we havew to disect players abilities week in week out Lamo had a slow startt but last two months he is looking good , he is creating lots of opportunities for others. holding the ball and but for some good saves would have a few more goals to his name My prediction some of you will soon start questioning the signing of guly when he has an off game some saints fans are so fickle
WRINKLY SAINT Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I really dont understand this. If you watch closely Lambert has played a different role this season. Last year he was an out and out striker, this year he has played more as a link player. Whether you believe this to be right or wrong is another matter but it seems strange to be be critical of him for obviously following team orders. Personally this system seems to make us a better all round team ,with goals not dependent on one player.
Ian the Red Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 He's playing very well atm; many forget his work rate and the number of chances he creates, its not just about scoring goals. He'll still be our top scorer this season and he will definitely cut it in the CCC.
Mutt Le Tiss Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Just came accross this: http://fansinthestands.co.uk/2011/01/20/could-lambert-cut-it-in-the-prem/ In my opinion over the last few weeks Lambo has come back to form thanks to being a lot fitter and agree with the comments above that although not scoring as many has been more of a play maker this season. Its nice to see Saints not relying on one goal scorer at the moment.
Village Saint Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Individual perofrmance is one thing, but how a player affects team performance is even more important. Rickie has changed this season into a more rounded player and as such he is better equipped to be a championship player than ever. At last someone without blinkers. Ricky Lambert has been a much much better player this season. He has become the de facto leader of the attack. He pulls all the strings in the opponent's half and its is no surprise that he has been involved in nearly every single goal we have scored recently. No wonder our managers have both backed him. What he hasn't done is score as many goals himself and that is disappointing but whilst we are scoring so many not critical. I would be very surprised if he doesn't score more in the second half but as long as he keeps making his current contribution to the side I will be very happy. I would also be very surprised if he doesn't find the Championship more to his liking but difficult to predict whether he would be good enough for the Prem. Although he is quicker then many credit him for, he doesn't have searing pace which is so importnat in the Prem. But is he a better player than Taylor-Fletcher or Ricardo Fuller? - surely the answer has to be yes and both of them have done okay this year. Cumbria Saint Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I have a feeling that Lambert has hit the woodwork almost as often as he has scored this season. Does anyone have the actual figures?
Lord Duckhunter Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Football is all about opinions. Personally I think we have seen the best in him. I dont believe he will get us out of the Championship, and if we are seriously looking to get through that League next season will need to replace him as our main man. I'm not saying he has not got a part to play, but his lack of mobility worries me and I feel we will need a better first choice striker next season. He's done ok this year and I think he'll get us out of this League, I just dont think he'll be good enough next year. I'm hoping he may turn out to ba a Steve Howard for us, but I have my doubts. West End Saint Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I dont think he has peaked & he can defo do a job in the championship he is a goal machine as the song go's I personaly think he has been very unlucky this season some keepers have made fantastic saves he has not had much luck in front of goal imo. Granted he wasnt fit at the start of the season but the last 7 or so games he has been immense his hold up play & assists have been good & if he gets on a run & gets a few I can see him banging a load in between now & the end of the season. The man undoubtley knows where the goal is & strikes the ball better than any other player we have at the club Lambo has plenty left to give
up and away Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 His first touches and lay off to other players are excellent this year. He makes loads of goals which is just as important as scoring. Well played Rickie, keep it up. His touches and lay off's are very good, but not many killer passes. The question is, which Ricky do we require, last seasons or this one? I thought he showed real progress after the two week lay off, but thought he was just trundling about the second half against Notts. I do rate Ricky and feel he is a very good squad member, just puzzled when last seasons goals are going to make a come back. At the moment I rate Guly as more important to the team than Ricky, let's hope he can get going and change that around.
