maysie Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 I'm not opening this as a debate about whether we will get automatically promoted or not as I think that's been discussed a few times already, but does anyone know what date the league 1 playoff semi-finals will be? I know the final is at the end May. I assume the semi's would be the weekend following the last game of the season and then the following Wednesday? Also is it the position you finish which decide swhether you or home or away first? Trying to organise something in May and want to keep these dates free just in case... Whitey Grandad Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 The last game of the season is Saturday, 7th May (against Walsall ) and the final is on May 29th so following the usual pattern the first leg would be Saturday 14th May and the second would be either Tuesday 17th or Wednesday 18th depending on the telly. Those are my best guesses. I'm already getting depressed at the thought of it all, but I shan't show it.

Whitey Grandad Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 I just know we're going to be in it. May aswell start looking forward to it I used to have a cartoon on my office wall. It read: "I feel so much better now that I've given up hope".
Barry the Badger Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 I was wondering this too. Not paid much attention until recently but suppose I should keep the dates free.
LGTL Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 Fairly sure it'll be the 14th/15th with the second leg the 17th/18th.
Noggin Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 If i remember rightly though, dont they spread the 2nd legs over each day off the week including the other 2 divisions, that would mean there would be no guarantee that it would be the Tuesday or Wednesday of that week. Saint_Jonny Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 If we go up through the play offs it'll be immence. If we miss out.....
rallyboy Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 I'm gearing up for a horrific play off experience - horrific with regard to pressure on fans rather than results. Automatic promotion is slipping away but let's cheer ourselves up. Playoff semi, beat Huddersfield 4-1 at home, 1-1 up there, thank you very much. Then we'll see how much pressure the likes of Bournemouth fancy, easy to play in front of a few thousand, let's see how they fancy 40,000 Saints fans at Old Trafford - remember how we swept Carlisle away at Wembley, big day, huge pressure, our players delivered. The big stage is made for Lambert, Chambo, Lallana, Fonte etc - difficult to get excited in front of 4,000 at some freezing hellhole but cometh the hour, cometh the men. Hopefully. No doubt Ferguson junior is hoping for a big day at Old Trafford, that might pile pressure on him and then we'll see how he likes it. Tell his missus to keep out of the way that week. That aside I'll take automatic promotion if it becomes more likely - it would be my plan A! Sorry to sound a bit positive.
Saint Ian Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 I see the FA Cup final is the 14th May. Have they ever had play-off games on the same day?

I don't think any other team will beat us but they can. I think Huddersfield will get second.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 Not really worried, I just can't see us not getting second really, unless we lose either to Bournemouth or we have to play Forecast in goal. Can't see either of those things happening so second it is.I think the play-offs will be Bournemouth-Rochdale and Huddersfield-Peterborough, with Peterborough winning through in the end. I think Huddersfield will get second. Thats how I feel. Not worried about anyone in the PO's other than Peterborough. Nothing to do with Ferguson, everything to do with their players. And my word, Ferguson is a ****. Would be beautiful to play them and Chaplow to score the winner though...
sambosa75 Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 I honestly would take guaranteed promotion via the play-offs over winning the league. Just the drama of it all and the days out on the sauce for the semi away and the final up in Manchester. Not sure my nerves could handle participating in it but if we were guaranteed the win, I'd be all over it.
