Jeff Le Taxi Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Would love one of our players to resurect Mick Channons windmill celebration, would have to be a regular scorer though with arrogance, i'll be asking my sons to do it if they get into playing football when they're older. Channon's Sideburns Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 To be fair, I've been ready to resurrect it for years. Just never got the call from Nicholl/Branfoot/Ball/Souness/Merrington/Jones/and all the others. I've been on the bus for years on this one... Jeff Le Taxi Posted 17 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Would really endear whoever did it to the fans (well, me!) I think.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 A job for Lallana me thinks !
Gemmel Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Big shoes to fill. I seem to remember a young Alan Shearer adopted it and then settled for the one arm up in the air celebration, but he defiantely had a few windmill moments.
The9 Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Shame there's not enough room for the fans to start doing it en masse, seeing as we're looking for a unique celebration...
The Kraken Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 I seem to recall Bridgey giving it a go once or twice when he was with us.
jam Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Didn't Dyer do it against the skates?
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 I seem to recall Bridgey giving it a go once or twice when he was with us. Bridge did it away running the length of pitch after scoring at Bolton many years ago in a rare win under Stuart Gray if i remember right.
Stanley Saint Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 My 8-year old always does it in the mini-soccer league (10 times this season). He gets away with it (just) at that age and knows it as 'the micky channon'. Might look a bit daft when he's older, I guess, but I hope he sticks with it! Nexstar Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Hammond did it at Peterborough, wheeled off behind the goal after scoring our 4th
Saint_clark Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Lallana did it a lot last season.

I seem to remember a young Alan Shearer adopted it and then settled for the one arm up in the air celebration, but he defiantely had a few windmill moments. Didn't Shearer attempt to 'copyright' his goal celebration at some stage? I thought it was shoyte....the windmill arm is heaps better.
paulwantsapint Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 NA should invite Channon down to staplewood to teach the players how to do it properly
Badger Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Well for me (to use a Channonism) it is Mick Channon's celebration and will remain so. I'm not keen on some 'upstart' using it ! (although I have tried teaching my son for use at his juniors team).
rolosfc Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 I seem to recall Bridgey giving it a go once or twice when he was with us. Bridgey did it away against Bolton I think when we drew 1-1, I was in the away end and he equalised then ran the length of the pitch windmilling towards us! Lallana would be a great shout to do it regularly.

latter day saint Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 I'd like to see Jaidi do it when he scores. that would be good ! although i did have a mental picture of him doing it & accidently smacking someone in the excitement
swannymere Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 My godson, Toby has adopted it (only a little bit of pressure was applied, honest!) in his under 8 or 9's league on the outskirts of Brisbane.
so22saint Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 Bridge did it away running the length of pitch after scoring at Bolton many years ago in a rare win under Stuart Gray if i remember right. Bridgey did it for Chelsea after scoring against the Skates at Stamford Bridge and at that moment I forgave him for leaving. It was bloody hilarious

JackanorySFC Posted 19 May, 2011 Share Posted 19 May, 2011 Bridgey did it for Chelsea after scoring against the Skates at Stamford Bridge and at that moment I forgave him for leaving. It was bloody hilarious Didn't do the Channon Windmill but properly went for it at the skates The Lad is a true Southampton legend – would love to have him back. A Stanmore boy and ST holder as a kid (old man still is) and genuinely laddish too.

A Stanmore boy and ST holder as a kid (old man still is) and genuinely laddish too. Bridgey turning down a move to the Skates a few years ago was a brilliant moment. That certain sections of the media criticised him for it was ridiculous (yet unsurprising.)
