Loans can be VERY expensive..

so I hope that NC looks very closely at the deal if we borrow someone BIG !

and if Todays BBC story about Jimmy Bullard is to be believed.

Ipswich won't be buying / or continuing to loan Bullard (ex Fulham) from Hull.

the four month loan (16 games) cost Ipswich about 20K week and so that short term loan put them back over 300K !

At a time when Hull were Prem. and spending big they bought Bullard from Fulham (at what price I ask myself?)... and seemingly gave him a contract worth 45K a week.

Not big money by Prem. standards maybe but now that Hull have come down to our level it's beginning to hurt as the already 32 year old Bullard has two years left on his contract.

At 45K week that's roughly £2.3 million a year + employer costs and for another two seasons. Hull will need the parachute , or whats left of it , because they are going to need almost ...£5 million until his contract runs out in 2013.

Embarrasing enough, but a season in CCC won't give him much value on the transfer market either. Hull ought to cut their losses and "give him away" to anyone brave enough to

continue paying him 45K a week - and hope he stays fit.

I am sure Nicola Cortese (who must know the value of money if anyone does) doesn't fall foul of one of these disasterous deals, and I certainly hope that Bullard isn't on Nigel's shopping list !!

I think you are underestimating the Don there Dave.

I didn't mean to suggest that NC wasn't savvy to such deals, but it sounds a large sum to pay for a player who isn't even their own.

If we do go in for such loan deals, we really need to know how it will work. No CCC club can afford to pay those sort of levels, and

there are some very highly paid contracts from one or two of the relegated teams.

I recall than part of the Wayne Bridge deal was that Chelsea stood for the replacement high salary, and a similar sort of deal when

we had Kevin Phillips, I think.

"Ownership" of players is rapidly becoming an outdated concept - with the financial regulations coming in, teams are going to be looking at more ways of getting players relatively cheaply and not getting stuck with rapidly diminishing contracts under Bosman, and if that means signing players for a short time without the overheads, then let the suckers like Chelsea hoover up the talent and then get them temporarily at a reduced rate, as they can only pick eleven players at once but they can pay for as many wages as they want.

You forget about the probable loan fee... These things don't come for free when they're decent. A loan is still cheaper than paying a big fee and wages for someone who could be injury hit and out of form....

Is that the kind of side people want to loyally support? A bunch of short term loans cobbled together... What does " being a fan of.." mean when it descends to that?

However unlike the thread starter, I'm not entirely sure though that NC cares about loyalty to the club. Results and a paying customer base is I'm afraid where he's heading. And if and when the Prem arrives and it's £65-70 quid to get in he won't turn a hair if you don't like it as long as someone else is prepared to pay.

I pretty much agree with you, I've mentioned a few times over the past couple of months that the bottom half of the Prem is now comprised of interchangeable foreigners in different coloured kits.

Mind you I've also mentioned that the attendance prices should be lower in the Prem because the tv money more than covers costs compared to the Championshpi.

Are you suggesting their loans cost anything like that amount, or that Bullard would have joined a league 1 club?

I'm unsure what the moan is here.

I suspect the implication is that he'd rather pay decent money for someone good who'll make a difference than fork out peanuts for someone who makes little impact. The issue of the player's availability is moot.

No, I am not. I am simply saying that Bullard would be a better loan signing despite his cost than the majority of loan signings we have had in previous seasons.

Correct.

This financial gulf between the Championship and The Prem is a huge blight on football, fed mainly by fear. We all know that clubs at the top of fear not making the Champions League and the rest fear relegation. Ultimately the system just transfers the massive TV money into a few pockets, including players, managers and agents. There's nothing fans can do about it, but its obscene all the same. It will be very interesting to see if the UEFA fair play rules have the effect they hope.
