Johnstone Trophy Final

I won 2 free tickets via twitter from Johnstones paint and chose to sit in the Swindon end. Lee Holmes was a class above his new team mates, if they had a half decent striker they would have won the game easily as they controlled most of the game.

It brought back some great memories, even though it's a pretty unattractive competition it was a terrific day out and I'm certain that the win at Wembley gave players like Lambert, Lallana, Fonte etc that extra bit of spark and drive to win more and more with us - the whole day kind of put us back on the map and showed everyone that we were on our way back.

The last 3 years have been unbelievable really and I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I look at the league table. A fantastic rise which has stemmed from terrific management all the way down the club.

I reckon next year 'could' be quite fun too.

It was day that felt like we could finally draw a line under all the s*** of the previous few years and look forward - I had no idea that 2 years later our progress would be so astonishing. I am genuinely sad that Markus, who clearly enjoyed the day as much as anybody, is not around to see the fulfilment of the plan.

Will be the only trip to Wembley I'll ever make with my mum as she died in January (I sat in her season ticket seat on the day of the funeral to watch Saints vs Leicester - not a great end to the night...). Not ashamed to admit I got a bit emotional today when I realised it was the final - the day itself was superb and much as I *far* prefer Adkins to Pardew, I credit Alan with doing exactly what he said he would do - returned a winning mentality to the club when it was sorely lacking after years of winning naff all.

This - Even if we were now sitting comfortably mid table in the NPC (and lest be honest most of us would have been happy with that given what we knew about the tough nature of the NPC), I am sure Markus would have been happy with the progress - Given wher we are - think he would be as nervous as the rest of us right now... the image of him with his digi camera taking a pic of teh fans, is one that should be included in the FL FAPPT - its what a real owner is all about - sure its a good business move, recognising the potential, and investing appropriately etc, but it was clear that day that he had an emotional attachment to... and you cant ask for more than that.

Fair play mate. Shame your mum wont be around to see the Saints back in the Prem.

Im sure out support was 44,000 though although we could have easily sold more.
We have had this before. Official allocation was 44,000, but there were Saints fans in the Club Wembley seats and in the Carlisle end. Wembley themselves said 50,000+. What the actual figure was was argued about at the time.

Good memories of a fun day out, and the start of the road back. As has been said already, would never have expected the following two years to be as good as it has been.

We were actually allocated, and sold 44,000 tickets

An official at Wembley reckoned there were just under 52,000 Saints fans there if the corporate areas etc and seating available direct from the Stadium were taken into account

Saints had more than 44k, the 44k is for the general fan sections. Was actually 50k+ Saints fans there that day.

The attendance that day was 73,476, Carlisle only had 21,000. Alot of the difference was made up by high numbers of Saints fans in the "posh seats". Cortese has stated in public interview he thinks Saints could have sold between 15,000 to 20,000 more tickets if Wembley/Football League let the club have a bigger allocation.

Perhaps that was the total of their true fans, ie. not the extra 30,000 who come out of the woodwork for a cup final. Wasn't our average support around the 22,000 mark for homes games in league 1, but come a cup final an extra 30,000 suddenly want tickets as it's a final at Wembly?

I was in the Swindon end as well with some other boozy "plastics" on a group outing.

Sitting in the top level I really could'nt make out anyone's details on he pitch and frankly I didn't have a clue who the players were on either side.

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't realise that Lee Holmes was playing. I didn't notice anyone as being of any use other than Chesterfield's number 16 whoever he was.

But it really did make me realise just how well we actually play.

Happy days loved our final (hell the whole cup run that match against Norwich , smashing MK dons, Papa Wagio) JPT will always be a bit special to me. I may well never see saints win another cup. From what I've picked up in the press so far Lee Holmes was a stand out player can see him moving to Swindon in the summer and being an important player for them (if he stays fit)

Haha, what a truly ridiculous comment.

Whilst we enjoyed our day out at Wembley, nobody else would've given a sh*t. I imagine most on here used to mock this tournament back in our Premiership days and imagine most football fans continue to do so.

It was a brilliant day out...I don't give a sh*t how mickey it was - we were there and the others weren't. My lad got to see Wembley (and I saw the new one for the first time) and he saw Saints win a cup there...what's not to like?

Made me chuckle Paolo De Mussolini's Barcelona cr*p rebounded in his face too :-)

Agreed not many really care, but it was the feeling that we were truely back. We as fans obviously made the most of it. I personally didn't care that it was only the JPT, I went along treating it like a major final. The club I thought was going to die just months beforehand were at Wembley lifting a trophy.

I know how you feel, my mum's last game was the Ajax game. A shame she never got to see what happened since but at least she felt the optimism flowing around st Marys that day and although she wasn't fit enough to go to wembley i kept her up to date with what was going on that day...

It makes games like the Walsall and the forthcoming Coventry game so much more poignant when you think of the loved ones who won't get to see them...

I completely agree with that. I got to see Saints lift a trophy at Wembley and was over the moon with that. Though let's not kid ourselves that anybody else cared.
