50 years of Bond

...Well, on film anyway. I know the books have been around a while longer. But what is everyone's favourites?

Best Bond

Tough one really. I can totally discount Lazenby (although his one film was not bad), Roger Moore was terrible IMO, and Dalton was OK (certainly not as bad as some people make out) so it's a toss-up between the other three for me. Hard to call because the styles of films were all very different for each of them.

Best film

Again a tough one. So many to choose from. When I was much younger my favourite was Moonraker - mainly because it had spaceships in it so it was so amazingly cool to a 10-year-old, but repeat viewings as an adult show it to be pretty terrible in places (like the whole 'Jaws falls in love at first sight' thing - so cringeworthy!). When the series returned after a 5-year break with Brosnan in Goldeneye they really pulled out all the stops and I thought it was superb, so I would probably have to go with that one. Though I have yet to see Skyfall, and I have to say it looks fantastic from the trailer and from reports I have heard.

Best baddie

Quite an easy one for me - has to be Christopher Walken as Max Zorin in View to a Kill. The film overall wasn't one of the better ones, but he was a brilliant psychopath without the campness that often went with the role in other films.

Best car

Everyone's favourite is usually the DB5, but personally I always loved the submersible Lotus. I do have to give a special mention to the DBS in Casino Royale though - sex on wheels that was, but it was sadly lacking in gadgets.

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

Again, so many to choose from. But for me it has to be Famke Jansen as Xenia Onatop in Goldeneye. Would happily have died between her thighs like the Russian general did.

Best theme tune

Hmmmm. Some really good ones and some pretty awful ones. But I think my award probably goes to Carly Simon's 'Nobody Does it Better'. I'm sure others will disagree, but if anybody votes for Madonna then you need to take a long, hard look at yourselves.

Over to the rest of you....

Best Bond

Timothy Dalton all the way for me, really nailed the character and established the template that Daniel Craig has since superbly taken on. My least favourite was Roger Moore and although Sean Connery was the original, I rate him behind Pearce Brosnan.

Best film

All things considered, Casino Royale. The Living Daylights and Goldeneye sharing the podium.

Best baddie

Alex Trevelyan. Traitor, creep and all round ars*hole. Perfectly portrayed by Sean Bean. The bad guy in Skyfall, Raoul Silva is extremely good though!

Best car

The Aston Martin in the living daylights. I want me some of those missiles.

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

The best goodie.... I did like Kara Milovy (Maryam d'Abo) in the Living Daylights with an honourable mention to Camile Montes (Olga Kurylenko.) For badies, Xenia Onatopp was the better character, but for all out sexiness Miranda Frost from Die Another Day. (It helps that I have a bit of a thing for Rosamund Pike.)

Best theme tune

I did like the theme from Die Another Day..... but no, under no circumstances is it the best! My personal favourite was either A View to a Kill by Duran Duran or Tomorrow Never Dies by Sheryl Crow. The worst is without a doubt 'The Man with the Golden Gun' by Lulu.... terrible.

Best Bond

Roger Moore I have fond memories for as Bond as they were the ones I saw growing up, Connery a clear second. Can't stand the Brosnan films.

Best film

Goldfinger for me although I did like Casino Royale a lot, but the former pips it as its a classic. The Spy Who Loved Me is a close third.

Best baddie

Scaramaga followed by Jaws again due to the late 70s/80s influence on that one!

Best car

Yep the Lotus for me too although if I was given any of them in real life I wouldn't complain!

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

Jane Seymour as Solitaire...yum yum

Best theme tune

Live and Let Die wins this hands down.....

.Well, on film anyway. I know the books have been around a while longer. But what is everyone's favourites?

Best Bond

Daniel Craig with Timothy Dalton a close second behind him in the race to be as good as Connery was. Thing is that Dalton could actually ACT. Brosnan was OK,but you have to give huge credit to Daniel for the reboot when it was becoming a tired franchise. Craig could be one film away from overtaking Connery

Best film

Skyfall. Casino Royale (not Woody Allen's version although, as a baddie...?) a close second

Not simply for the plot/action but because it takes the character forwards for the first time since (strangely) George Lazenby. George got absolutely pasted (rightly so) BUT OHMSS was actually a damned good Bond film. May just be good enough to pull in some Oscars for the first time in ages (possibly even Dame Judy anyone?)

Best baddie

Blofeld. "So Mr Bond", and of course an honorable mention to Christopher Lee

Best car

The DB5 (and it's reappearance in Skyfall and the M joke while she was a passenger)

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

Barbara Bach, with a special mention to Sophie Marceau as Elektra King and her Garotte in Istanbul in Never say Never, and yeah Jane Seymour stirred like no other (being old but not having been at THAT age for Ursula Undress or Pussy Galore but hey, c'mon though, STILL the best ever movie character name)

Best theme tune

The Duran Brothers deserve a mention in dispatches with Wings & Carly Simon close behind. But how anybody can vote for anyone other than Dame Shirley

Over to the rest of you....

Best Bond

Connery. Sorry, dont care how good Goldeneye or Casino Royale are, for me that run of Russia, Goldfinger, Thunderball, YOLT is the classic era.

Best film

Despite my last answer, my favourite is OHMSS. I thought Lazenby did OK, Diana Rigg was one the sexiest girls, and those ski-chase scenes set the standards. And the plot for me is one of the more plausible. I wonder what its reputation would be like if Connery had been available. Honourable mentions for Thunderball, Goldfinger, Goldeneye, YOLT, Spy Who Loved Me, Living Daylights

Best baddie

Drax or Stromberg, what a pair of pr*cks. I remember the auditorium applauding when Brosnan shot Electra King though. What a mental beetch.

Best car

Aston Martin DB5. By a mile.

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

Diana Rigg. Stopping on the rink in front of the hiding George Lazenby. Not whip-your-todger-out sexy, but beautiful. Close runner up is Luciana Paluzzi (Fiona Volpe) from Thunderball. Red-head with no freckles, great tits.

Best theme tune

Goldfinger, Thunderball, OHMSS main theme, Living Daylights, Live and Let Die, Skyfall, You Know My Name (Casino Royale). Worst was Quantum of Solace job.

Best car

Ain't it that Bond movies suck? Every other year a new one comes out and gets all hyped up and i get tricked into watching it and everytime they suck. That Casino Royale was the worst one, i was going in expecting to find it a genuine good movie but it turned out people was just hyping it up cos maybe it didn't suck quite as bad as the other bond films. It still sucked though! They got me again with Skyfall cos it had a good director and stuff but that still sucked just as bad! It was the stupidest movie I've seen all year, and I watch a lot of fvvcking stupid movies! Someone explain me what the bad guy's plan was, it didn't seem to make no sense at all!

Edit: I'm talking bout all the recent bond movies, I seen some of the old connery ones and they was cool!

That was his aim colins, but what was his plan for making this happen! Explain his plan to me from start to finish! Seriously.

Quite obviously it was a case of 'blow sh*t up.'

Javier Bardem was betrayed by M so he wanted revenge. After stealing trade secrets at the start of the film he entices bond to his lair, this is however just a clever trick. He wanted to get caught so he could make MI6 look foolish by escaping in a dramatic and destructive way and then shooting M at her public enquiry hearing resulting from the missing secrets. When that failed M had to go on the run to jock land where the final showdown took place at Bond's needless back story.

You know what colin, that makes pretty good sense! I couldn't figure at the time why he was bothering to get himself arrested, except for that they thought it was pretty cool when the Joker done it in the Dark Knight and the lazy bond dumbasses wanted to stick it in somehow, but that makes sense bout him wanting to make XXXXSPOILERSXXXX!

Can you also explain why in Iron Man did the beardy dude want to kill the non beardy dude, given that the non beardy dude invents the weapons for his weapon manufacturing company. I found that one a thinker also!

Edit: No spoilers!

No, sorry. Was too busy waiting for Scarlett Johansson to turn up in the sequel.

I dont care about anyone else, just me. Wont bother seeing now.

It is still a fine film. Like many bond films there are some incredible moments. The synopsis I've given is far from the full picture. Javier Bardem is a stunning villain.

You will enjoy it.

Best Bond

I like Craig, but it has to be Connery, he was just so cool. Tough, funny, self-assured. Favourite quote: "This is a woman's gun" "Do you know a lot about guns Mr Bond?" "I know a bit about women." I have never managed to get all of the way through a Dalton film. He's just such a charisma vacuum.

Best film

Goldfinger. Like with most films, it's got a lot to do with when and how I saw it. It was the first one I saw, at Christmas of course, and my brother had been raving about it. i was finally old enough to watch bond and that was the film to see.

Best baddie

Blofeld, any of them, but of course Donald Pleasance had the hollowed out volcano that has become THE standard for an evil megalomaniac.

Best car

The Goldfinger Aston Martin, because when I was a kid everybody except me had the toy, plus the weapons of course. I liked the toy Lotus, but when I saw it in the film I was disappointed.

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

Diana Rigg or Shirley Eaton

Best theme tune

I love You Only Live Twice, I think it's magnificent, but I also love We Have All the Time in the World.

I seem to be alone in this but I think Live and Let Die is one of the worst songs. It has a fantastic dramatic start, but when the song actually gets going, it's a horrible messy, plinky plonky jazz number. All that "What does it matter to ya?" rubbish. I think people just hear the start and forget the rest is quite lame.

Best Bond

Between Daniel Craig & Sean Connery, think I'll go for the old Scot tax dodger, although it's a close thing.

Best film

Live & Let Die, with Skyfall second

Best baddie

Blofeld, no one else comes close.

Best car

Dunno, DB5 or the Lotus. Would be happy to own either.

Sexiest Bond girl (goody or villain)

Tough one Jane Seymour, Britt Ekland or Babara Bach. Alway had a soft spot for Babs though.....oh man, almost forgot about Ursula. What a fantasy thay lot are (or were when in their prime).

Best theme tune

Between the classic Bond Theme, Nobody Does it Better, but Live & Let Die gets it.
