Give it to Ron Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 So we had a new lawn laid about 14 months ago but have had nothing but probs since. Attack by ants stripped a big area then put dow some weed and feed that killed a bit. I planted some seed and got it back. Now I used After Cut and its killed a massive area of the lawn - what can I use to recover?
buctootim Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 Dunno, but I always avoid cutting mine too short, leave a nice bouncy cushion of grass of about 1.5 - 2 inches. It looks loads better than the neighbours which is dried out and semi dead and was laid about the same time.
Gemmel Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 Get with the times Ron. Artificial grass is the way forward - Looks perfect all of the time and no hassle or upkeep.
Chopper71 Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 you shouldn't use most products on unestablished lawns. Mix some seed with some compost in a bin and leave it to start to germenate (takes about a week) and then sprinkle on the lawn. That way the birds won't eat it. You'll need to water it thoroughly every day. Again don't cut it too short whilst it's establishing. in the spring you should be able to use a lawn feed / moss killer. Doctoroncall Posted 28 August, 2013 Share Posted 28 August, 2013 When you get the lawn back to a good state, get a heavy roller that'll help reduce the weeds and ants for the future.
Big Bad Bob Posted 28 August, 2013 Share Posted 28 August, 2013 Get with the times Ron. Artificial grass is the way forward - Looks perfect all of the time and no hassle or upkeep. Had half the lawn artificialised as that bit always turns to mud as soon as we get a drop of rain, drains really quickly and is a great area for the kids to play in. Got myself a garden rake for the rest of the lawn, that works really well in getting rid of the crap that would grow there otherwise

Jonnyboy Posted 28 August, 2013 Share Posted 28 August, 2013 Until you try a sliding tackle on your 5 year old and take all the skin off your knee...! The new stuff is much better, not like AstroTurf . They've put down a load in the new kids play area by the bus stops in town. It's like being in In The Night Garden. Pricey stuff mind.
