Girl Games vs Boy Games

I'm a cave dwelling troglodyte and I find women who passionately support football a bit odd. Here is my definitive list of sports and who should support them. If you disagree you are clearly wrong.

Hockey - Mainly girls because its a girls sport and all the men I have know who play it are a bit girly, but clearly pretty nails as getting hit by a hockey ball is no fun

Verdict: Girls and tough but girly men

Badminton - Probably mainly girls as its basically tennis for the weak, but I quite liked badminton when I played it years ago. Don't know who actually supports it.

Verdict: Probably girls

Boxing - Surely this is a blokey one? Do girls really like watching boxing. Most girls I know get all upset if people start fighting.

Verdit: Blokes / geezers

Tennis - this is definitely one for both I reckon, everyone seems to like watching tennis. Plus there is no call for shouting and screaming.

Verdict: Both

Rugby - Probably mainly guys but girls seem to like it alot also, seems fairly unisex to me.

Verdict: Both

Football - Mainly blokes surely? There are a few gruff women dotted around but I dont like hearing them screeching about the '****ing ref' or asking about what offside is or whatever

Verdict: Men and manly women

That's probably all the sports isn't it? Don't think I missed any.

Tiddlywinks

Worm Charming

Bog snorkeling

Cheese rolling

Cant believe I missed these!

Tiddlywinks - Clearly this is a multi gender sport, with a wide and diverse support base.

Verdirct: Both

Worm Charming: This is a sport for men due to its close association with competitive morris dancing. Plus girls scream when they see creepy crawlies, and mud is also involved which women tend to avoid. I can only think of one sport where this is not the case.

Verdict: Men Only

Bog snorkelling - Again, mud is involved and women who are not butch or les dont like mud because it makes them look unattractive to men (once again there is one very specific exclusion to this rule)

Verdict: Men Only

Cheese rolling - this is quite a dangerous sport, and so I would be inclined to say men only were it not for the fact that the women who made the cheese probably would like to get involved, and we need to be inclusive and not overtly sexist. However mud is involved again! Women don't like this as previously noted (once again there is one very specific exclusion to this rule).

Verdict: Mainly men but also the women who made the cheese

I used to play badminton a lot before I eventually got bored last year and gave it up. There were a lot more male players at the club I played for than female. Certainly there were only 2 or 3 women of any decent standard. Not sure where the whole 'weak' thing comes from as a decent player can't half hit a shuttle. Sure it's lighter than a tennis ball but you hit it just as hard.

The only sports I can think of where women outnumber men are netball, hockey and equestrian. I would say there is probably an equal interest in athletics but almost every other sport is male dominated.

I feel thoroughly trolled. But seriously?! I love boxing. Nigel Benn was my hero. I always remember watching Paul Hodkinson with my Dad, happy memories.

And don't call me butch. Plastic, you're so rigid, putting people in little boxes. Life isn't that simple!

No Lou I don't want to offend you! I'm scared of manish women!

I bet you are probably hot though despite tendencies towards man stuff, and I'm sure you would beat me at drinking/swearing/fighting competitions, so now I feel inferior also :(

But Plastic, I'm not in the slightest bit manish, and that's the point - people don't always meet your expectations, but you've got to stay open minded about these things. I wouldn't beat you fighting, because I'm not that big. Neither drinking (though I'd have a good go) and I'd probably have a go at swearing, just to prove you wrong, but I'm hardly a navvy. No one ever pigeon holes men, but women get this all the time, and it's bloody annoying. There are so many women out there like me - quite feminine, but a healthy amount of tomboy too. You'd think this would be a perfect mix for guys, but instead men always seem to worry we're treading on their toes. It's weird!

Just to add, the two sports I'm into at the moment are football and paint ball.

Now, there are a small number of female regulars but as a sport it is firmly in the manly category. Just a casual observation but the kind of women I meet paintballing probably wouldn't be seen in high heels at a One Direction concert.

PS. I hate rugby. And I hate cricket. Because they're posh sports. So there you go - I'm prejudiced too :)

Sorry I went to bed and missed all your good points! We should probably go to a game together (you pay), I'm sure the outcome would be worth televising on BBC 3.

Also how did I miss cricket!

Cricket - cricket is brilliant to watch because you can sit there and get p1ssed all day, men tend to like this more than women, but you do see quite a few girls at cricket and quite often they are either posh and hot, or Australian.

Verdict: Both, but Lou thinks posh birds only

Mountain biking - its difficult, exhausting, technical and expensive. Its also a bit odd because you are supposed to enjoy getting dirty and hurt. I do it probably because I pretend I am 10 years younger (but I could not afford it then). You do see some women but they are 1) very much in the minority; and 2) usually with their boyfriends / husbands. Thats love.

Definitely blokes

Interesting hobby, Oh Huge Slit.

And it must give you great pleasure to watch the fluid leave your muzzle and splurge across the face and glasses of your 'victim'.

If that's paintballing, then I haven't done that for many a long year.

I work in a female dominated sector (approx 80% women 20% men) although my particular field is a more even split. While I wish it was a more even split across the board, one of the benefits is we don't get the macho boy bullsh*t putting women off sport. So we have lots of sports teams where anyone is welcome: football, softball, netball, badminton, table tennis. And as a result, there are just so many really bloody good women sportspeople. Some where you can see they have natural talent but it's just not been nurtured. Others where they play to a semi professional level. There seems to be a higher general level of sport amongst the men - I think because they generally play more, and are encouraged to do so - but when women are given the opportunity in a positive culture, you'd be surprised how much skill rises to the surface.

And you know what, the 'butch' thing is pretty offensive. The women I see who like sport are a complete mix of women from different backgrounds, different weekend hobbies, different tastes, are they're all pretty gorgeous in their own ways. Not that this has any relevance to their skills as sportspeople.

Is it modelling so sexy women, or is it like charity shops?

Sorry cox I think all your points are fair but women who play rugby are butch. And laddish.

Also I have never seen men play netball but I bet it's funny!

No need to say sorry Plastic. Your viewpoint says more about you than the female Rugby players. And given how much time I'm wasting on a football forum right now, or singing songs at a football game, or drinking ale, or hanging out with the lads. Or swearing. I guess you'd be turning your nose up at me too. Which is a tough one to take, but I'll cope.

Netball would be loved by men if they got over their silly prejudice. It's a fast paced aggressive and very competitive sport. Our team has a 6'5 South African guy playing, and he loves it.

Oh Lou I thought we were getting there - but now you have gone all frosty again! :(

Don't you want to convince me that female rugby players aren't butch? You could show me some pics of female rugger buggers in skirts or suchlike?

I think you like this conversation really!

I wouldn't be responding, if I wasn't enjoying the debate, Plastic. But no, I'm not going to demean a bunch of skilled and talented women, by putting pictures here and involving them in a beauty contest.

But anyway, I've got a house party to organise for tonight, and I've done bugger all so far. So I've gotta love ya and leave ya, Plastic. Enjoy those google images!

Yes I know, organising a house party is lots of work!

All that hoovering and cleaning and stuff. Tbh I think it is very sexist that you think that is women's work, you should share it equally across genders! Find a man and make him do half.

Also Google is very sexist as well! All the pics of women rugbyists look butch.

This one is clearly very good at rugby, and also quite manly.

This one is quite hot, but I'm not sure she is real rugby.

They show quite a lot of Netball in Oz, coz those chicks are quite good at it. Goes back to that good old Field of Dreams argument (erect it and they will come, or some such).

Anyway, it is very competitive and having zero exposure to the game before, it is as captivating as Basketball. Which you can make what you will of. Think there's some hot girls play, but they are very tall and, well, athletic which is not my cup of tea - too intimidating.

Anyway, girls, eh? Sports, eh? Girls sports - know what I mean? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Know what I mean? Eh? Girls playing sports eh? Know what I mean?

Eh?

Yes I do! They do play sport, and not just netball you sexist!

Just because someone is a hot netball player does not mean she is an object for you to goggle at!

Check out the rugby birds above - Which one is winning? That's right, the manly one! While the hot one is face down in the dirt (she has not scored a try she just fell over).

I do think men generally find women more attractive if they are losers, rather than winners. Am I right or wrong?

The stereotype I find holds the most truth is that women go for douche bags.

The number of times I've heard a woman b**ching about her ex and how much of an arse wipe he was, shortly followed by, "yeah we were together for like 5 years."

Well, life is generally dull, and everyone is looking for something fun aren't they? It's just unfortunate a lot of the fun guys are also w**kers. It's the fun and nice ones that are the real finds, with hotness a lucky bonus!
