Plumstead_Saint Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Just wanted to highlight a top post made by Rory on match thread : "FAO Kelvin Davis; Over the years, you have received some unjust stick from a lot of fans here but, can I just say, if it wasn't for you this season we would be down already. Your commitment to this club's cause is commendable and it really is a breath of fresh air to see you care for the club. You're not even a Southampton lad but still you pull of save after save and commit your future to the club, even though you are blatantly being coveted by other teams, especially after your performance today. You've been a fantastic servant to the club and, out of every player on the pitch today, you would be the only one I would really be annoyed at seeing go, but I wouldn't blame you. We are shockingly poor and you deserve to at least have one last stint in the Premiership. Also, my younger brother was one of the reasons why he started liking football and supporting the Saints. When you first joined the club, he went down to the stadium with some friends on a schools day or something like that and you were the only player who had a laugh and enjoyed being with the kids. That Christmas, we got him a goalie shirt with Davis on the back and he didn't take it off for months. You thoroughly deserved your MoM award today and I hope, for all our sakes, you stay on for a lot longer. However, I fear, along with all of us, that you will be gone February and that'll be that for this club." Great post about a top man and player. I wonder which of the other current players we will one day appologise to for not recognising their skills, committment and efforts?
Channon's Sideburns Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Good post. I wonder which of the other current players we will one day appologise to for not recognising their skills, committment and efforts? None probably as they'll all be playing for Barnet...Step up you see...
alpine_saint Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Yep. Davis is the one player I would not be angry with if he decided to leave. He's done his bit. If we had 10 other players on the field in 50% of the games gone showing the same level of application, we'd be in the top 6.
ottery st mary Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Totally agree with this praise. Good goalies are hard to find at the best of times, especially with the poor wages we now pay. Would love to see him stay, although you could not blame him , if he took offers open to him. Met him and his family and suggest he is not only a top keeper but a great ambassador for the club and a TOP bloke.

Are you ITK ... what have you heard? Shhhhhh..don't tell anyone I told you this though... Rupert got a nice new mirror to admire himself for Xmas, which reminded him of the stick that HR used to give him over his public schoolboy 'barnet'.... Now young eager Rupey, determined to 'right the wrongs of the previous management' has decided to bankrupt Saints, take all of the oh-so talented Academy and takeover at Barnet for the sum of 75p using a Reverse Takeover effect. He's not interested in the football really just so he can see Redknapp and say... 'Take a look at my Barnet now you oik'... Deja Vu??

sadoldgit Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Considering the fearful stick the poor bloke got in his first couple of seasons it is good to see him get some credit now. Burley also came in from some heavy flak for signing him in the first place (eh Alpine, changed your tune I see).
krissyboy31 Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Over the years, you have received some unjust stick from a lot of fans I don't buy this bit. Most of the stick in the past WAS justified, just as most of the praise he is currently receiving is. KD had some terrible games in his first few seasons and in his position, mistakes nearly always lead to conceding goals. This season he has been inspirational and with Jack Cork gone, is miles ahead in the player of the season stakes. Fair play for the way he has turned things around. Mind you, he does get a awful lot of practice!!
hypochondriac Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 The stick in the past was utterly justified. Having said that, to show the strength of character to perform as well as he has done following previous seasons deserves the highest praise. A top player and a top person as well. DT Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 He played well yesterday, and was at fault for none of the goals, I'd say. The save with his feet was pretty good, reactions-wise, and we were unlucky with their first in that an inch more and Davies would have tipped it over, not just onto the bar. Also unlucky that Skacel was 'marking' their young lad. As in 'not marking', as is his wont. That said, Davies has been pants in the past and has been at fault for quite a few goals even recently in the league. All in my opinion, of course. I yearn for the day when our player of the season is not a keeper. Kind of indicative of our plight, no?
Rory Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 The stick in the past was utterly justified.{/quote] Sorry, disagree here. He made mistakes but the manner in which some of the fans lambasted him was disgusting. The minor falling out he had with Baird was just embarrassing. "Good on you, Bairdy! You show that sh*t keeper what he's worth!". Utter farce.
sadoldgit Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Yes he did make mistakes, but so did the other players. Only he and Wright were singled out for special attention on here as I rember.

Scudamore Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Yes he did make mistakes, but so did the other players. Only he and Wright were singled out for special attention on here as I rember. In much the same way that i bit my tongue when the knob behind me repeatedly called McGoldrick a poof for wearing gloves yesterday. And then said f::ck all when Morgan Schneiderlin came on wearing a pair... "TAKE YOUR GLOVES OFF YOU POOF MCGOLDRICK!!!" being one such comment...what exactly he expected i'm not sure...McGoldrick to go over to the sidelines and take them off then wave up to him as a sign of thanks for the pointing out of an obvious fashion faux pas? I then turned around to see the fat f:cker wearing a nice warm looking coat and woolly hat of course... Personally i really couldn't give a rats arse if a player wants to wear a ribbon in his hair... People seem to get a bee in their bonnet and then get an opinion of a player and just won't let it go...regardless of actual performance on the day... People seem to get a bee in their bonnet and then get an opinion of a player and just won't let it go...regardless of actual performance on the day... Personally, the fact that McGoldrick wears gloves does not bother me. What does is that despite being an at best average footballer, he continues to play appallingly, can't score goals, can't pass, and runs around the park like he doesn't give a toss and he's far too good for us to even bother trying. Sort of like Berbatov in the last 15 minutes yesterday only with the talent he has in one fingernail. So, in summary, right target, wrong abuse. Saint Bones Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 I disagree that the 'stick' was justified. MANY slayed him on here before he even played for us - i'm suure it didn't help his performance. Yes a professional should rise above.. wel I guess in the end thats what he has done. I still cling to the small hope of staying up this year - But if Davis leaves in the January window we are well and truly screwed.

NickG Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 previous criticisms were unjustified, always been one of top goalies in this division and now I suggest the top. And as others have said decent guy as well.
mitch01 Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 He was always a goo goalkeeper, but bad starts are difficult to recover from, especially in that position. Some people were just very short-sighted - Kelvin makes a few mistakes...therefore he must be a bad goalkeeper. Seems a top bloke to me and really cares, he was gutted at the final whistle vs Reading.
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 some of the questioning he got was totally justified..as much as the praise he is getting now... to say he is the best in the league is a bit much
