Jamie White back in at Barnsley?

Funny that he's on the bench for a league 2 side but is deemed good enough for Saints. BTW not a go at White who i think has potential to be a decent player in the future.

I've not really seen enough of him to comment, but i don't think it's unfair to assume he's not all that, based on his Shrewsbury experience. History rarely lies.

Look at McG. Was **** at Port Vale on loan and looking at his performances now it's easy to see why.

I know players will grow and improve, but most clubs cull the chaff at the end of the YTS period, knowing that they'll never grow and improve enough. We don't seem to be that arsed about binning players off anymore.

It's not like we're poor judges. How many players have been released and then snapped up by other clubs and become stars? In 25 odd years you could only say there was Wise, Phillips and Scott McDonald.

If you readily admit you've not seen enough of him to comment, why have you?

"He's not all that"? He's nineteen ffs, give him a chance. Whenever I've seen him play he has looked pretty lively, he's got a reasonable record of scoring goals and he's from Southampton. I don't really see why he shouldn't be given a chance. Also, most Bournemouth fans I know have a very high opinion of McGoldrick from when he was there on loan, so judging on a loan period may not be very accurate.

I saw him play for Shrewsbury against Wycombe just before Christmas (it's a long story!). He came on as a second half sub and made a big difference. He was lively, pacy, got to by by-line and put in some excellent crosses. But Shrewsbury had no one on the end of the crosses - the same problem we'll have.

By the way although there's no article on the OS yet, White was taken out of the squad listing earlier this week (presumably because someone realised belatedly that he should have been taken out when he went on loan in November). He's back in the list this morning. (Of course taking players out of the list who are on loan is not always followed as Michael Byrne has been on loan at Bognor Town for several weeks and is still listed on the OS.)

EDIT - article now on OS http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11189

I can judge because i've seen a lot of young players and i've seen what becomes of them. And i know the history tells me players that struggle at league 2 clubs, even at 19, rarely go onto make decent careers for themselves. We are kidding ourselves and the youngsters pretending otherwise.

I hope White is a glorious exception to this and he will not recieve any critiscm from me during matches.

But it's about time we stopped pandering around saying give players time. 30 odd years of football in the modern era has shown us very few players graduate from youth teams to good first teams. Yes, some players will need time and help. Other players will never come to anything. I hope White does become a world beater and i'll cheer him every game to help him, but, sadly, even at 19, 99 times out 100, if he's going to be good, we'd know about it already.

Seems odd to me. We lost one striker (Paterson) and we got one back (Saga), so why are we suddenly short? Unless of course Saga is going again, like Dyer.

Pekhart went and I assume Robertson is unavailable or gone as well.
