derry Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Does anyone else cringe as soon as this chanting at the away fans starts. My first thought is always, "It won't be long now until they equalise" I just wish they would stop this arrogant posturing, and wait until the game is won. We've hardly even scored at home, let alone taken the lead.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I just like it when our fans sing or chant anything - quite rare unless you're sat in the Northam end!
Andy_Porter Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 It's very small time. I'm glad we've knocked the "easy, easy, easy" bull**** on the head.

If it was banter it would happen all the time, it doesn't happen when we are losing/drawing, why wait until the few times we score, to rile the away fans and get them going again, instead of shutting them up. We are just asking them to rub our noses in it again.

I remember people around me doing this after Phillips scored to put us two up against Villa in our last season in the Prem. Idiots.
derry Posted 14 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Its sung for a number of reasons, often in response to a song sung by the away fans In our case not until we score. I would have thought singing " The Saints go marching in" would be far better to continue to lift the team and leave the away supporters subdued. The other chant just starts them off again. We need them shut up, not riled up and chanting, then if they score they really drown our supporters out.
Ponty Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Aren't they just asking which of our players has actually scored as they're all such unknowns?

Appy Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I cringe as well. I know exactly who the opposition fans are when we are against them. I don't need them to confirm it.

These chants just spark a response from the opposition and brings them out of their depression . Far better to celebrate, get behind the team with OWTS etc and ignore them. Having said that not so many opportunities to shoot ourselves in the foot this season ..

I always feel sorry for the idiot in Pantomimes who insists that the person they are looking for isn't behind him, when we can all see he is. He ends up with egg on his face and I can't help but think he should have just abstained from forming an opinion until he was completely sure of the location of the character they are trying to find. Derry, you like me come from an era when Southampton supporters had many varied and some quite unique songs. The days of the Milton, Archers and West and East Stands at the Dell, when there was proper banter and proper terrace humour. The chavs of today have no humour and no originality. They can't even make up decent songs about our own players, just knick other fans tunes and call them Southampton songs. It too wriles me that they tempt fate by dissing the opponents fans and teams when only one or two goals up or anti skate songs that have abosultely no relevance to the game being played. However, I have long given up on the hope that we may one day return to proper supportes, who will get behind the team for 90 minutes with songs we can all be proud of. Windmill Arm 2 Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 I've only ever been to SMS once, it was for the Man United Cup Game this season, being a plastic manc I only usually get to see my team on telly. It was a good day though, Little Southampton tried but my beloved Man U were too much for them. I knew it, I feckin knew it !!!
